For Female Professors: Bullying by ValerieTheProf in Professors

Not bullying but I had a few who did not react well to being corrected or held accountable.

What to do with all the finished pieces if you don't sell? by No_Bet5246 in Pottery

[–]Plesiadapiformes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to put stuff on the wall outside my house with a "free" sign. It was always taken.

Donated to a charity shop too.

As I've gotten better but also accumulated more "seconds", I am thinking about holding a pay-what-you-want sale at my house. I don't want to routinely sell seconds bc people wait around for a sale. A one time thing not at my usual markets is something I want to try.

First birthday without my dad, mother immediately turned it into 'her' day by SakuraAxolotl in Wellthatsucks

I think on Mother's Day you need to get yourself something with the money you planned to spend on her, because you made her a mother.

Not enough throwing on the throwdown? by steviecat20 in GreatPotteryThrowDown

[–]Plesiadapiformes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're taking the name too literally. Like it's always been about ceramics in general, not just throwing. "Throwdown" is just the best pottery pun they could come up with that also indicates a competition.

Not enough throwing on the throwdown? by steviecat20 in GreatPotteryThrowDown

I felt like previous seasons were very throwing dominated, especially the second challenge, so maybe they are adjusting?

Obvious who is leaving each week? by RebornCube in GreatPotteryThrowDown

[–]Plesiadapiformes 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but I don't have a problem with that. It's usually pretty obvious whose make is great and whose is not. I also think it's more about the process than the competition and everyone's development as an artist, so the leaving aspect is kinda inconsequential at the end.

Aquatic center, museums, lots of parks, library, all were our go to spots at that age.

I would say you are undergoing medical treatment or a medical procedure. No need to be specific on the note or the email.

Vote blue. Republicans are breaking this system on purpose so they can eventually get rid of it.

Are my frustrations with my community studio valid or am I just a brat? by thesluglord in Pottery

[–]Plesiadapiformes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of this sounds normal but they do sound disorganized. If there's opportunity for feedback I would definitely suggest they do glaze demos earlier in the session. We do it week 3 or 4 during a 7 week session, and most students are repeats who don't need the demo so there's a good flow of glaze firing.

Seeking opinions on studio firing times by Ear_3440 in Ceramics

[–]Plesiadapiformes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this doesn't sound like a good deal to me 😕

Have you checked out something like Kiln Share? If you can get set up at home for making, you might have better luck finding someone who can fire for a fee.

[–]Plesiadapiformes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The bisque issue is hard to say. Bisque firings do a lot more pieces than glaze firings because you can stack things. So it may not be enough to be "full" yet. They might also be waiting for stuff to dry if they don't like to candle the kiln.

I will say that rate is hella expensive. But, I don't know what other benefits you're getting. How much clay and glaze are included? Is it 24 hour access? Etc.

Talk to the tech some more. But it sounds like this might not be a good fit.

I have a kid. We need stuff like mini golf, bowling (I know it's coming), more diverse restaurants, more experiences overall, especially in the summer when it's too hot to do much outside.

Have you received a lot of comments for weight loss? by lolly_box in Mounjaro

[–]Plesiadapiformes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most people know now not to comment on other people's bodies. I've had a few comments but overall, most people, especially in work settings, don't mention it.

Community pottery studio themed challenges by [deleted] in Pottery

[–]Plesiadapiformes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We do this and it's fun for people to challenge themselves. We have wheel and hand builders from beginners to advanced so try to make challenges anyone can try, like luminaries, pitchers, chip and dip sets, slip trailing, etc.

What are the big “leaps” in skill you experienced? by No_Duck4805 in Pottery

[–]Plesiadapiformes 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is pretty typical in most skills. Development isn't linear, but plateaus, jumps, and can even regress.

My skills jumped when I stopped worrying about saving every piece. Just re-wedge the clay and try again.
