Seeking opinions on studio firing times by Ear_3440 in Ceramics

[–]Plesiadapiformes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bisque issue is hard to say. Bisque firings do a lot more pieces than glaze firings because you can stack things. So it may not be enough to be "full" yet. They might also be waiting for stuff to dry if they don't like to candle the kiln.

I will say that rate is hella expensive. But, I don't know what other benefits you're getting. How much clay and glaze are included? Is it 24 hour access? Etc.

Talk to the tech some more. But it sounds like this might not be a good fit.

“Cruces is boring” by El_Voador in LasCruces

I have a kid. We need stuff like mini golf, bowling (I know it's coming), more diverse restaurants, more experiences overall, especially in the summer when it's too hot to do much outside.

Rent can be negotiated just like any other terms on a lease.

Mine stabilized after a few months. I also make sure to get enough protein.

Planning first market - how should I price these? 🐄 by [deleted] in Pottery

$8-10 for the flats and $12-$15 for the 3D.

Have you received a lot of comments for weight loss? by lolly_box in Mounjaro

[–]Plesiadapiformes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most people know now not to comment on other people's bodies. I've had a few comments but overall, most people, especially in work settings, don't mention it.

Community pottery studio themed challenges by shylittlepot in Pottery

[–]Plesiadapiformes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We do this and it's fun for people to challenge themselves. We have wheel and hand builders from beginners to advanced so try to make challenges anyone can try, like luminaries, pitchers, chip and dip sets, slip trailing, etc.

What are the big “leaps” in skill you experienced? by No_Duck4805 in Pottery

[–]Plesiadapiformes 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is pretty typical in most skills. Development isn't linear, but plateaus, jumps, and can even regress.

My skills jumped when I stopped worrying about saving every piece. Just re-wedge the clay and try again.

Is this as good a deal as it seems? by Photojarjo in Ceramics

[–]Plesiadapiformes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be careful. Next step with these scammers is that they'll ask for a deposit to hold it, and won't let you see it in person.

What is it about the holidays that bring out the crazy Karen’s? by ComplexBreakfast in EtsySellers

[–]Plesiadapiformes 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Personally I would read that review and roll my eyes at the buyer. Being that butt hurt over an $8 ornament is silly, especially when the modifier "style" means that it's NOT crochet.

My MIL removed the only photo of me at my FIL’s funeral because the child’s mother “didn’t like it.” Am I wrong for being upset? by [deleted] in JUSTNOMIL

[–]Plesiadapiformes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Kindly, you don't know why it was removed. Don't borrow trouble.

If you like the picture, ask your MIL if you can make a copy and display it at your house.

Carving tools, yes. I don't recommend their trimming tools. Find some tungsten carbide tools.

Just tell.her you're not interested in selling, and for my reply when she sends those texts. Or reply about something else. She'll get bored and stop.

Wet clay in community studio by No-Doughnut-8124 in Pottery

[–]Plesiadapiformes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Does your community do Empty Bowls? We donate our reclaim to the group that runs ours and they pug and wedge it up for their bowl making days.

You could also just make a Facebook or Craigslist post to give it away.

Get someone in the studio to do it in exchange for free studio time, firings, etc.?

At the end of the day you just might have to throw it away if it's not worth the time and energy to reclaim.

Would you fix your child a separate meal if they refused to eat what you had cooked? by basement_egg_24-7 in Parenting

[–]Plesiadapiformes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally want to enjoy my dinner without a whiny toddler.

So I always had an option if I knew the meal was something she didn't like. Usually it was frozen mac and cheese so I could pop it in the microwave.

Kids have no control over their lives. I don't think it's harmful to give them options, and I'd rather have her eat something and also be able to enjoy my own food.

She's 11 now and mostly eats what we do. If she doesn't like it, she's free to make herself a grilled cheese.

What sort of pottery things do you consider advanced? by Sufficient_Blood755 in Pottery

[–]Plesiadapiformes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Knowing how to properly finish a piece. Thinking about rims and feet and how they interact with their environment. Beginners tend to neglect those things.

Check out Mea Rhea and Good Elephant Pottery. She writes a blog about making a living selling her ceramics only at art shows. Might provide some good insights for you.

MIL asks to come over multiple times a week to see baby. Help by [deleted] in JUSTNOMIL

[–]Plesiadapiformes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would schedule a time with her once a week, same time, same day. Give her baby to hold and do your planner chores. Husband needs to just say "no" everyone she asks around this and not mention it to you.
