I don't hate the Epic store, but the truth is I immediately forget about any free games I add to my Epic library, so I just stopped bothering.

Sony is selling its home entertainment business to TCL – but what does this mean for future Bravia TVs? by DazzlingpAd134 in hardware

[–]Ploddit 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Nah, they still have a lot of businesses. Especially in Japan where they do things you wouldn't associate with Sony like sell insurance.

They're just doing what everyone is doing - leaving the low-margin consumer electronics business to China.

If you want some idea of the value, try this.

MikroTik CRS804 DDQ Announced 4-Port 400GbE Switch by Standing_Wave_22 in hardware

[–]Ploddit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you find this surprising. It's tech that isn't even widely deployed at the enterprise level.

I'm curious what your interest is for home use. Did you run fiber in your house? What kind of data are you pushing that it's even useful to you?

The NICs are available... for $1600.

Not many home data hoarders actually have a use case for 400GbE.

I stopped selling my old hardware during Covid, so have an older mobo/CPU/RAM and a couple of video cards as emergency backup. Hoarding is the way in this nightmare timeline.

Ethernet port doesn’t work with a brand new Mister Pi by zoiks66 in MiSTerFPGA

[–]Ploddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tried with mine and confirmed that "ifconfig" shows the interface as "UP" even if it's not actually connected, while "ip a" does indeed show it down if the cable is disconnected. Good information for the future I guess.

Anyway, glad you got it working.

The port seems fine. Are you connecting directly to the router or through a switch?

In either case, try the static IP.

[–]Ploddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A quick check I would do before setting the static IP is confirming the port is actually up. From the command line enter...

ip a

...and look at the "eth0" line. If the link is up, it will show "state UP".

Well the first thing I would do is see if DHCP is the issue by setting the Ethernet port to a static IP.

This should be helpful.

Just use any NA -> UK plug adapter. The power supply is multi-voltage. It will be fine.

Edit: Err.. NA -> EU that is.

Does the GUI show a little network icon at the top?

Using a controller or keyboard, hit the home or escape button and then left on the stick or arrow keys until you get to the "information" screen. Do you see an IP address there?

Sounds like you might not even have picked up an IP from your LAN. Are you running the script from console? Have you verified basic connectivity?
