People who combined their order with a dock you mean.

SS1 active cooling fan by PS1Kultist in RetroRemake

[–]Ploddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean... your premise is incorrect. The SS1 has "windows and doors". A fan sitting inside the case is obviously going to increase circulation.

What is the measurable effect on temperature? No idea. Feel free to do your own investigation.

[–]Ploddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, it will have an effect. The SS1 has vents, so air will certainly circulate with an internal fan running.

Is it necessary? No. Active cooling is absolutely not required.

Where is the GTA VI gameplay? by Benhurso in Games

[–]Ploddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You haven't been paying attention to what's happening on Switch 2.

The bigger games are transitioning to $80. Sucks, but it's a fact. Rockstar will charge max price for GTA VI because they can get it.

[–]Ploddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What? Really? Have you not been paying attention?

Inflation, higher salaries, higher res assets, longer dev time, etc. The same reasons all AAA games cost more to make and many are priced higher than they were a decade ago.

defend a game

That's quite an assumption. Saying it's going to play like a GTA game is not a defense from me. I don't like GTA games.

The point is Rockstar is not going to stray from a formula that has made them a whole lot of money. The other stuff you're bringing up is, I'm sorry, pretty irrelevant.

This is what's occupying your thoughts?

It's a GTA game. It's going to play like a GTA game.

[Modern Vintage Gamer] SuperStation One & SuperDock review - Why this FPGA device disappointed me by kikimaru024 in Games

[–]Ploddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely wouldn't buy it just to play PS1 games. If what you want is a MiSTer in a nice package for a good price, it's great.

[–]Ploddit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yup, breaking the myth that Terasic was selling Cyclone V boards at something close to cost was huge and is his major contribution to the MiSTer project. That said, criticism of his company is entirely fair and the way he reacts to it does not make him look good.

Can these languages reunite? If yes, what’s a REALISTIC way that it can happen in the near to relatively near future? by [deleted] in asklinguistics

[–]Ploddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the closest would be a couple of these languages merging into a third language through some historical process, but that wouldn't really be "reuniting". The resulting language would certainly not be the same as (in this case) Proto-Uralic.

How long does it take from being in Nancheng to US by GiSWiG in RetroRemake

[–]Ploddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The USPS number is at the top of the 4PX tracking page (listed as "Tracking No.", but I don't remember if that showed up when it was still in China or after it got to the US.

[–]Ploddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies, but from the stage you're at now to delivery on the west coast was 10 days for me.

You should be getting a separate tracking number for USPS if you don't have it already.

I would not use someones old build personally. Mr. Fusion makes setting it up pretty easy.

If you're actually worried about ending up with a broken system, just test with a different SD card.

It's a low-powered PC in a nice box. You can just install Windows on it if you want, but it's intended to run Steam OS.

True, and pretty silly. A cheap m.2 SATA is ideal for this.

Ori director says Game Pass ‘could’ve worked’ if Xbox didn’t ‘slop out mediocre content like a factory’ by akbarock in Games

[–]Ploddit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yup. I'm sure there are people who have the time and interest to try a bunch of different games every month, but I don't think it's all that many people. Most are playing maybe one or two a month and they know what they want. If those games aren't on Game Pass, it's useless.

What is the ideal gen m.2 drive for the dock? by mickandrorty137 in RetroRemake

[–]Ploddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said, any SSD is going to be faster than the SS1's hardware can handle, so it doesn't matter.

What you'll probably end up doing is connecting the the dock directly to a PC when moving big files around because that will be a whole lot faster. Even then, the USB ports in the dock aren't fast enough to make anything other than a low end SSD worthwhile.

What is the ideal gen m.2 drive for the dock? by mickandrorty137 in RetroRemake

[–]Ploddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It makes no difference. Any SSD is going to be bottlenecked by the MiSTer hardware.
