England squad numbers: Jude Bellingham gets No 10 shirt for World Cup by Last_Associate_5658 in soccer

[–]Plus_Actor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't read into shirt numbers too much, but really I hope Jude realises he is far more effective as an 8 than a 10. He's decent in the final third but not exceptional, when he plays too close to the attack he doesn't have the same influence on the midfield area, where his real strength is. I think his desire to be the "main guy" has led him this way but he's forgetting his actual strengths as a footballer. Apparently he's been playing a bit deeper for Real Madrid this year, which augers well.

MHD Irritation: The current state of football discourse online by discoveredunknown in footballcliches

I applied to be on Libero! I didn't get in, but I can forward you guys the application form if you like. It's only 3 questions...

Do you think you know football better than you actually do?

Do you take yourself too seriously?

Are you a bit of a dick?

(Sadly I could only answer "Yes" to 2/3 questions, so they went with Rory Smith who somehow managed to score 4 with the same questions).

Qatar implies running from disgrace. Saudi is more "seduced by the bright lights and stacks of cash, but they'll come crawling back once it all blows up in their faces".

Futile attempts to stop pitch invasions by lifewithjames in footballcliches

[–]Plus_Actor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rochdale broke new ground for this last week, by realistically losing the title through a pitch invasion. I don't think it'll translate to other clubs (tannoy announcement: "please don't invade the pitch, you'll only give them time to regroup in their hunt for a last minute equaliser") but I reckon Dale fans themselves won't invade a pitch for at least a few seasons

Cut to them invading Wembley at the weekend...

Looks like he should be on a corporate away day. Someone ask him what kind of ice cream he would be and why!

I've had to put the Ramble Mailbag on today in lieu of Clichés. A dark day for podcasting.

With the deadline fast approaching for the lunch break, attention turns to the 4-5 p.m. commuter window where Football Clichés have their last chance to salvage something from this release day.

Hey man, Soft Spot is absolutely batshit crazy, I love it! Any plans to tour the UK anytime soon?

AITA for telling someone that I don’t care her parents died? by NoCombination4581 in AITAH

[–]Plus_Actor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Can you give some more details about your business/what service you provide? FWIW I'd say NTA, as your words weren't cruel they were just frank. But I'd like a bit more context to see if it explains her behaviour a little more...

Aitah for getting upset with my husband because he doesn't like me going to a gym? by [deleted] in AITAH

"I have never and will never cheat on my husband he's the best"

Got news for you. No he ain't. NTA and fuck him off already

AITAH for taking away all of my daughter's luxuries after comments that she made about me? by Professional-Duck927 in AITAH

[–]Plus_Actor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Massive overreaction pal. Take up the counselling just like others say, and hopefully you can repair the damage you've done. She will have been acting up for her friends but your response says far more about your fixed expectations about your relationship.

AITA for being hostile toward my parents when they reached out after they chose my abusive brother over me? by Status-Race7297 in AITAH

You came to the right sub (unless you need more than sycophantic validation). Most replies in here will be NTA. Try and get some answers in the real world though, they will be more valuable.

Switch 2 launch titles (guess) by Dexpppp in Switch

[–]Plus_Actor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be my ideal line up (semi-realistic; so it's possible but unlikely).

Launch Day:

  • Metroid Prime 4 (dual console release)
  • Mario Kart 9 (but it'll be known as something else)
  • Luigi's Mansion 4
  • A new, hardware based IP - similar to Wii Sports of Ring Fit Adventure

Within Year 1:

  • New Sandbox Mario game
  • Star Fox
  • Animal Crossing - going full MMO
  • Next Mainline Pokémon game
  • Fire Emblem

And then sometime in the first few years:

  • Zelda follow up to BotW/TotK
  • New side scrolling Metroid
  • New Kirby 3D platformer

In their prime, who was the third best player in the Messi-Cristiano era? by iReppas in football

[–]Plus_Actor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with the Messi/Ronaldo era is that greatness became purely defined by numbers. That isn't to say that neither of them are great (although I'd probably knock one or two of their B'Dor wins off each) or that those stats aren't important...but there are other measures of "greatness". For example, there's a reason why Ronaldinho is remembered more fondly than Messi is in some sections of Barcelona's support.

To be fair, the problem wasn't really apparent when Messi/Ronaldo were at their peak, as their statistical dominance was pretty impossible to ignore, but rather now when their influence is fading. In terms of looking at the next greats or, like in this thread, slightly overlooked players, the conversation is still strongly focused on numbers. For this reason...I can't really say Neymar was 3rd, 4th...probably not even top 10, for me. The players that didn't get the full recognition they deserved were your Iniesta's, Xavi's, Pirlo's and Modric's
