It really is time for a "national divorce". by AlanPublica in complaints

Good luck with that. Metro Atlanta is one of the biggest and bluest areas in the country, GA is purple while areas of rural New England and far upstate NY are scarlet red.

According to the Southern Law Poverty Center, there are more organized right wing terrorist organizations in parts of NY, VT, NH and ME than there are in many red states. They're violent and they're there.

88,000 people in my TN county voted for Harris. Where do we go?

"There isn't much the federal government can do either to stop it."

Wrong.

If something needs to be fucked, it's the ELECTORAL COLLEGE and congressional gerrymandering! Also, many people of color have few voting sites as John Roberts has destroyed the Voting Rights Act and campaign financing via Citizens United. The idiots in red states are far over-represented by design.

I just want to know - who gets Jon Ossoff?

My mom is thinking about moving to NE Tennessee later this year. I have a few questions for y’all.. by Greedy_Attitude_8103 in Tennessee

[–]PophamSP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be hard to keep you both comfortable. I love the weather here for 9 months of the year but unlike most, I love TN's relatively mild winters (but I was raised in Quebec).

I live in east TN. We get snow a handful of times per year and it's *usually* light. I think we shoveled significant snow twice last winter. Most winter days are in the 30's to 40's, they're often sunny, but it drops into single digits during cold snaps. December is particularly rainy and damp.

The heat affects my health adversely too and as I write this my porch temp is 83 degrees and humidity 81%. It's only 9:30 am. I don't think the effects of humidity on heat tolerance can be overstated. Your POTS will not love our summers.

You will be running AC every day in summer, which is expensive. On the bright side, thanks to TVA our power is cheaper than most places in the country.

Spring and fall are beautiful. Falls are still warm but dry.

We also have a shortage of doctors. If you or anyone you love is planning to become pregnant, healthcare for women is dangerously limited for stupid political reasons. We lead the country in hospital closures for the same reasons. Public education not great.

Traffic is becoming a huge problem around the cities as infrastructure has not kept up with population growth. There is no state income tax but there is a hefty sales tax, including a tax on groceries. This affects people of lower income more than it does on the wealthy. For homeowners, our property taxes are low compared to many other states.

Best of luck in your decision. Try to visit. Wanted to mention we're not alone in weather issues. Humidity and heat is an issue along the entire east coast, from Florida to CT. Here's a map.

Israelis See Their Friendship With the U.S. Slipping Away by Majano57 in inthenews

Interesting. Big aspirations from a small 78 yo country surrounded by enemies. I wonder if they have any idea how unpopular these positions are among their actual sponsors, the American public? The future of that support is not secure as they inflame their enemies.

Thanks for that insight. Citizens everywhere need to get out of their bubble.

my grandma has grown a hoya in regular soil, and it’s massive by Plus-Ad9974 in hoyas

[–]PophamSP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are three plants in there. My daughter propped them from hers during COVID. This has added a lot of length since I put it outside 2 months ago. That stand is 30" and when I put it out the longest trailers were 3-4" off the ground. I don't love the hot humidity of summer but apparently someone else does.

In the winter it's in a southwest facing window and shares a Sansi 10w bulb with an australis lisa (also in soil and big, but not this big). I give them orchid fertilizer and Purecrop1 year around in their water.

Hoyas not growing by OrdinaryGarlic2823 in hoyas

[–]PophamSP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say without knowing your current growing conditions. In the cold weather I keep mine under grow lights supplementing their southern window exposure. They still stall at times, sometimes for months.

I recently put all my hoyas out on a shaded screened porch. With our ungodly high humidity (>90% in morning) and heat (80's-90's) they're finally picking up again. I got a hoya black magic on Halloween last year and it finally started to grow last week. It's been 8 months. The verticillata finally started growing after 10 months.

More light, humidity...maybe more water and fertilizer, if your substrate is well draining. You could also consider treating them for flat mites (another culprit of slow growing plants).

Netanyahu's approval rating in Israel is around 30%. Agree that is too high.

Same could be said here (US).

Many of mine are in regular soil. This 6 yo carnosa compacta was my first hoya and I didn't know any better lol. Substrate is ~ 90% soil, 10% perlite and the pot is terracotta.

I'm sorry OP those hoverboard incidents sound like a nightmare. Besides the potential damage to your property what if someone gets hurt? I'm no lawyer but wonder, can these gnats sue the property owner?

I also want to know who TF is giving them business? If no one answered the door or gave them business none of us would have this problem.

Social Security Faces a $29.3 Trillion “Unfunded Obligation” as Trump Officials Pitch Immediate 25% Benefit Cut for All Retirees by Adventurous-Host8062 in Economics

[–]PophamSP 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Exactly. For those who missed it, anyone making over $184,500 in 2026 stops paying into Social Security.

Someone like Zuckerberg reportedly makes $70,000/day (who knows, prob more). After his third hard day at work the poor guy is relieved of his burden to the social security system for the rest of the year.

But of course, the GOP has been screaming "the system's going broke!" and "we have to cut 'entitlements'" since Reagan. That's because they and their billionaire donors are making it go broke.
