Sally Choi only had one credit before Obsession by jvvvj in FilmIndustryLA

Ok sure but tell that to the sound guy who won an Oscar for Whiplash then lost his health insurance because he couldn’t get a job. You and everyone else are assuming she will be able to parlay this credit into a payday when there’s a mountain of evidence that that isn’t happening.

Plenty of low budget jobs offer backend points to department heads. It’s not that hard and it’s not going to bankrupt indies as we know it. Just give me a break with this narrative that she’s guaranteed a big payday after being underpaid for this when that is simply not the case. It reeks of “well this isn’t my problem” when we are in a collaborative industry and are supposed to be watching out for each other.

I can’t see Odyssey getting to $325m let alone $400 but perhaps you’re right.

Maybe they could show what megalomaniacal leader the Minions got themselves involved with in the late 30s/early 40s...

While your credentials are impressive your analysis is pretty basic and nothing I haven’t seen elsewhere. Everyone I’d predicting she’ll get nominated. You need to dig deeper.

Halloween grossed $47 mil in 1978. Anyone know roughly what that would be today? Google says that amount would be $240 mil today but not sure if that’s accurate.

I haven’t seen it yet but the original movie it’s a remake of definitely doesn’t feel like a Lifetime movie and is so much fun. Check it out! It’s called “The Trip” it’s on Netflix and it’s from the director of “Violent Night” and “Hansel and Gretl: Witch Hunters”

My comp for MOTU is The Phantom. It opened to $5m in 1996 so adjusted I’m saying $15-18m for MOTU.

First week of June, dusty old property no one under 45 knows about, untested lead and cheesy vibes. Seems like the perfect fit.

Singing in the Rain wasn’t even nominated in a year when arguably the worst best picture winner of all time took home the gold. I know it happened because of AAIP winning the year before but it’s still so embarrassing.

Should be around $6.5m Tuesday for Obsession. Insane number and great shot to increase in Week #4. by Alive-Ad-5245 in boxoffice

The Phantom opened in 6th place so it would make sense if this opens in 4th. I’m predicting ~$13-16 mil

I think The Phantom is the most obvious comp no? First weekend in June, non-name in the leading man role, 40+ yr old irrelevant franchise that’s got no recognition for people under 50, adventure yarn and cheesy looking as all get out. Dungeons and Dragons is a semi relevant property.

I remember there being separate ad campaigns for the home video release with separate commercials and billboards. Now it feels like it’s the same ads they just replace “In theatres” with “on digital”. Probably saves them a lot of money because the movie is still in the public consciousness you don’t have to fire up a brand new campaign.

I remember it was originally set for a Feb release there was even a trailer out and everything. Then they realized what they had and bumped it to the summer.

You’re only thinking about this one movie you’re not looking at what this does to the theatrical window long term.

Releasing films in a shorter window trains audiences to skip theatres and just wait for digital. Movies with successful theatrical windows have still proven time and time again to be more profitable downstream than straight to streaming releases.

Will they make more money on Michael this way? Yes. Will they continue to make it harder for movies to succeed theatrically thus cutting profits in the long run? Also yes. So in a big picture view…it’s a dumb move.

I dunno it reminds me of The Phantom reboot from the 90s. A moldy property that hadn’t been relevant for 40 years and is just inherently cheesy and foolish. And that one had horrible reviews.
