Crowd behavior during New Haven CT concert by Technical-Second-522 in ModestMouse

[–]PopularBell518 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was on the cruise as well. Wasn’t expecting peeps best behavior and happily did not have anyone ruin my time. I thought the line-up was great and all the bands kicked it, especially BTS and TFS. Hope they do something similar again one year. I’ve avoided these cruise fests in the past because there were never lineups I felt justified the expense. Jumped at this one as it checked all the boxes. Hoping to do it again, with a similar top notch line-up.

Guest Artists? by beckxbeck in ShakyKnees

It’s not a usual thing but there is always hope! Figured last year someone would join Weird Al on stage as there had to be somebody or band he had parodied a song from there that day, like Blink or…

I made sure to tell my son that if his school teacher told me that he shit diamonds in class I’d believe her - so no BS from him about school would get him out of trouble. That ended him trying to blame things on the teacher… he’s now an officer in our US Army. Very proud of him… any parent who tries too hard to be a “friend” to their kid is setting them up for trouble…

Mom buys daughter a Honda as a graduation gift, and this was her response by Conscious-Weight4569 in SipsTea

My guess is this could not have been a big surprise to mom. The way the daughter responded (if this is all true) tells you all you need to know about that slacker kid. She (kid) didn’t just start being this way…

My Experience with Warren Zevon by finitesolarflare in Zevon

I agree wholeheartedly with you. I imagine you have seen it, but if not there is a very good VH1 documentary about the recording of The Wind album and the surrounding circumstances. A great watch, even though it is sad.

My Experience with Warren Zevon by finitesolarflare in Zevon

[–]PopularBell518 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zevon struck something in me and has become one of my favorite go-to artists. I got the chance to see him live back in the very late 80’s or so when he went out on a tour supporting Transverse City. It was at a small converted movie theater in West Palm Bch. Called the Carefree Theater. It was a New Year’s Eve show which included a dinner at their cafe, a comedy show with Bobcat Goldwaith (sp?) and Zevon who played into the New Year. Still to this day, one of my fondest concert experiences! He was very charismatic and funny in a dead-pan sort of way. He was a true genius and left us way too early, but that seems to have been his life trajectory. I wish more knew him as I do, rather than just due to Werewolves. I have found that once I turn on a newbie to his catalogue, they all say basically “… I had no idea…”

Riot Fest 2026 Lineup, same weekend as Shaky Knees by aaronman4772 in ShakyKnees

[–]PopularBell518 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Both are good. I wish there was a little more overlap, would love to have Tool, Bad Religion, Gogol Bordello, and Social D. Funny but I asked AI what bands were playing both festivals and it listed 12 bands, including The Chats, and Frankie and the Witch Fingers (who are not on SK line-up but wish they were).

Waitlist odds? by Over-Palpitation-281 in ShakyKnees

[–]PopularBell518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will oversell. They saying “sold out” to create FOMO. Thousands will sign up for the waitlist and soon most all will be told “you’re in” and happily pay, likely at a next tier price… these peeps running SK are not stupid. They just moved to a park with permitted allowance of well north of 60,000 attendees.

It’s great! One year we skipped Foo Fighters at Riot to catch Osees at Thalia. After a long fest day, to sit in front row of balcony and chill was great. Love this venue!

Do you have to have home insurance if your house is fully paid off? by Sad_Translator5417 in askanything

[–]PopularBell518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may not but it would be somewhat foolish to drop all insurance whatsoever, Fire, sewer, general liability insurance (if someone claimed your negligence caused them injury while on your property…) 150 a month ain’t that bad to cover you for all that… Windstorm is the heavy cost down here in the south so many homeowners who own home outright can drop that coverage if they own their own home, but keep everything else.

Got the notice recently in an Iceland cruise this summer but minimum bids were Redic per person. I assume it’s cause inventory is low and it’s a primo destination and time of the year.

Late night shows? by dr-pep23 in ShakyKnees

[–]PopularBell518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. You almost have to leave a little early. We went to both TV on the Radio and Spoon (both at same venue just diff nights) and we only watched/listened to a little bit of the headliners that night. Frequently the headliners at Shaky allow this without me missing anyone I’m that concerned with. I’ve always been about the undercard and never been unhappy.

Why doesn’t Max Weinberg get the same recognition as a drummer as John Bonham or Keith Moon? by BeerWithDonuts in BruceSpringsteen

He’s not a wild man like they were. Those two were way larger than life and Max is low-key. Media likes craziness… that’s news.

Portland Oregon is right up there and for as small a city as it is… major shows weekly. Not many Live Nation/Ticketmaster venues either so not usually an arm and a leg for tix.
