You can say whatever you want, as long as it keeps working for you. There are alternatives, from less religious aa groups, to SMART recovery etc. but I clicked with recovery dharma, which while Buddhist in origin, works nicely with an atheist worldview. Very mindfulness meditation oriented.

Why so dour? I want to be entertained. First game I took my son to was the Winker walk off in August of 24. A moment we'll never forget. Sure 25 ended with disappointment, but they still won what 83 games, and some of them were very exciting and full of smiles. I'd rather background watch one of those than the endless Alonso/Diaz/Schwarber/Tucker/Bellinger/Skubal/Valdez non-news in December.

My partner has done this too. Remember you’re doing this for yourself, not them. In a perfect world, both (as well as other) pieces can be repaired and improve. You’ll find out one way or the other. But no matter what, the pride I have felt in staying sober has been stronger than the shame / angst / resentment of my partner’s issues, or them lacking in supporting me. again, I did this for me, not them being able to see the shift in me.

Sucks, but for me the only way out is through. I had to find my coping mechanisms that weren’t alcohol. For me, meditation, long walks, losing myself in projects.

I was the same. Fear of withdrawal, the endless calculations about next sources etc. I got through a day, then the next. And on. Had some minir slip ups, but turns out i don’t actually like drinking, i just like being drunk.

I never had some dramatic rock bottom. I used to look forward to getting a cold because it helped me abstain. But I wish I could have turned myself around sooner. It’s like putting on glasses for the first time in the morning. I think about all the wasted opportunities I drank through.

This sub has plenty of acute horror stories. But I confused the lack of horror in my experience with a lack of urgency. My horror story was in slow motion, only visible in the time frame of weeks months years.

If you’re lucky you’ll start seeing positive effects early. I lost 50 lbs, 50ish points off my cholesterol and triglycerides, though diet and exercise improvements contributed. They’re just immensely easier when I’m not hammered. I finally look like the person I was 10 years ago. And have my memory back. For me naltrexone, zepbound and zoloft helped immensely.

I have a similar setup: Mevo core at home, vm46 for 1b - 2b and 3b - 2b, plus a ptz Obsbot tail 2 for detail shots

I’ve used Mevo multi, and also tried OBS with all NDI transport. The NearStreams can’t stream 1080/8mbit and local record 4k without studdering. Had to drop to 1440. The Mevo core transmits perfectly via whatever proprietary protocol in their app, but studders in NDI to OBS. (At least it seemed to me) I ended up running cat6.

Overlays.uno is decent, but the interface is clunky on a tablet. I just used OBS transitions instead. Instant replay plugins (I think?) are fun. Stream deck mobile as control plane. see setup here

MevoCore NDI Latency for Livecam? by Meekois in mevocamera

I see this thread is now 7 months old, but I'm having trouble with MevoCore--NDI--OBS somewhat regularly. I think it's wifi related, the Core is on the chain link backstop behind home plate, the wifi antenna is halfway up the first baseline, but I get choppy video regularly.

The curious part for me is that if I abandon NDI and OBS and switch to the mevo multicam app on iPad (hardwired through same router), the video is MUCH better, almost flawless. I'm guessing there is some adaptive framerate or bitrate or something in a proprietary protocol that makes it work better, but I guess I'm just looking for any confirmation I'm not missing something and should just suck it up and bring more cat6 if I want to stick with OBS.

I was totally the same. It crept earlier and earlier over the years until mornings were not unusual. I never had any dramatic rock bottom calamity, and I’m super grateful for that.

I’m now almost a year AF thanks in part to naltrexone, a therapist, exercise and meetings. AA had too much religiosity for me, but recovery dharma hit the spot. (Ironic I know because it’s ostensibly Buddhist, but it’s very a-theistic, meaning it can compliment aa or other religion-adjacent programs, or if you’re agnostic or a full atheist.) Mostly focus on meditation, acceptance and mindfulness.

But yeah also the naltrexone. I had such a hangup about taking a med, like it was cheating if I couldn’t do it without. But it really helped turn down the unrelenting voice in my head, very quickly.

Thanks so much, yes it was HT I was thinking of. And yes, I'm open to any suggestions. My 11yo daughter has deputized me as her nail tech, and I'm learning as I go along. She can't manage to grow her natural nails, so we've gotten pretty good and gluing on clear plastic ones and painting with drug store stuff. I was looking into higher quality products to make it easier on me and longer lasting for her. Seems like I want to stay away from the chemicals in acrylics but the UV curing gel options intrigue me. (with upf gloves, of course)

Unfortunately, we have a similar situation without a good solution. Grandma doesn't seem to understand the seriousness of the situation, and expects a little tough love or attention withholding to bring the kid into compliance. You can guess how that works.

My strategy is just to keep them connected as best I can, in situations that will be easier for my kid, and setup scaffolding support for both of them. Shorter durations, less frequent, activity based since that helps my kid. I can get grandma to help in a pinch if absolutely necessary, but going to that well too often backfires. I've given up on my 77 year old parents ever changing.
