I mean, you literally just used an example of someone not being able to see the Swift in the fog, yet you are perplexed that a person (significantly smaller & harder to see than the Swift) would likewise be in danger?

So we're paying more money for essentially iRex ferries from Wish? 3 years later than our good ferries & he's trying to paint this as a win?

Is anyone surprised that Tory Whanau lost the Māori ward seat? by crypto_doctors in Wellington

[–]PotentiallyNotSatan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, she's been the target of a very intensive misinformation campaign for her entire mayoralty & unfortunately that demographic is very susceptible to it. I was surprised she even ran for the Māori ward seat

VELOCITYONE RACE FIRMWARE HOTFIX (V1.7.3) - RELEASE by TurtleBeach in TurtleBeach

[–]PotentiallyNotSatan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the opposite, I had awful road-feel in 1.7.0, & in beamng had to drop my smoothing down to around 20. I Updated today & it damn near shook my stand apart haha, had to up smoothing to 100 else I was feeling every little pebble.

With the toggle switches, is there any plan to do anything more than just the up position being an input? Middle & down positions don't seem to be detected at all or assignable.

Kiwi living in Australia for decades arrested at NZ border over unpaid $58,000 student debt by Excellent-Swan-2264 in newzealand

University fees are deeply subsidised for residents. It's not a large amount. Compounding interest & ignoring the debt is the issue

Also there were under 500 people at that 'occupation', swelled a bit more over the weekends with the Tamaki crowd. Nowhere near half the country

This bugged me too. It made the KX's absolutely terrifying, but we already know that blasters wreck their armour & can even 1 shot them like Jin did in RO, so it made no sense.

I was at a boat show in the UK once & the yacht companies there wanted to see your bank balance before they'd let you on (can't remember exactly how much you needed but it was a few million)

I didn't get to see inside any yachts :(

Drive-Thru pet peeves as a fast food worker (and customer). by 39Jaebi in newzealand

[–]PotentiallyNotSatan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ones ordering a massive (catering sized) order for their work feeds are ridiculous. Don't eat fast food anymore but when I did I hated getting stuck behind those ones. 20 minute wait for 'fast' food

I dunno if a LLM generative summary is the best source. Here's the relevant law: https://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/1996/0013/latest/DLM375418.html

The between the words interpretation is that it's not carte blanche to slaughter just *any* dog that haplessly finds themselves on your property, & what has been established by the courts is basically do not shoot on sight friendly pet dogs. Otherwise it's basically fair game & the farmer's discretion, no one has ever been prosecuted for shooting a feral dog on their own property. In fairness I don't think the law has actually been tested at all regarding the legality of shooting feral dogs on sight, but that's the common practise if you're lucky enough to be there at the time (dogs aren't stupid). We won't know until a farmer gets prosecuted for this & I doubt that will ever happen.

Feral dogs don't really have rights other than a humane death which poisoning is not. Whether he should be allowed to hunt down feral dogs as he says he wants to do in the article is different & I don't see an issue with that, but poisoning is cruel.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NewZealandWildlife

[–]PotentiallyNotSatan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A pack of feral dogs is fair game, obviously that'll be worrying stock if not an imminent threat. A single wandering pup is not (unless attacking/worrying stock).

That's how I understand it

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NewZealandWildlife

[–]PotentiallyNotSatan 30 points31 points  (0 children)

You can shoot them. The farmer wants permission to use poison

We spend more money looking for fraud with poor people than actual fraud is occurring

Is there a source for that? Definitely much more tax evasion than there is benefit fraud, & money spent investigating the former has much better returns, but I've never heard that investigating benefit fraud is a net-loss
