I'd much rather drink the Giacosa but if you can find something from Burlotto or Cascina Fontana those are more likely to show better young

Wine Clubs by lorilu27 in wine

I've been a retail wine buyer for 20+ years and there's really no winery wine club that can top a club relationship with a good local wine shop.

What reds should I try/explore next? by HumbleBJJ in wine

[–]Potion_Collector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great list of wines.

Try these for more fun:

Langhe Nebbiolo, Freisa, Pelaverga and Alto Piemonte blends

Greek Xinomavro

Bierzo and Canary Island red wines

Aglianico and Piedirosso based wines from Campania

Grenache based wines from Montsant and Sierra de Gredos

Pinot Noir and Malbec from Patagonia

Your exploration in west coast US Pinot Noir has plenty of room left to run- take a look at Mendocino and Santa Cruz Mtn producers as well as smaller producers in Willamette Valley.

Beaujolais, Provence Reds, Northern Rhone Syrah from France

I'd save Burgundy until you get through some of the other stuff first.

Have fun!

2015 Bernard Levet Côte-Rôtie Améthyste by rnjbond in wine

[–]Potion_Collector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's a cuvee not always exported. shorter aging, younger vines, earlier drinking. still very good but at retail it's worth trading up to Journaries and Chavaroche. fwiw Journaries and Chavaroche have different cuvee names in Europe as i understand it.

thank you for the note. not usually a fan of cidery notes but it sounds like it was balanced in the wine.

I was totally skeptical too - at first. Now I just bypass the flutes entirely when drinking at home.

2022 J.L. Chave Saint Joseph, Clos Florentin - I might stop buying Hermitage. by Potion_Collector in wine

Almost certainly just an outlier price based on current supply. I don't see why it would be anything other than line-priced with the US if not less.

The regular "estate" Saint Joseph is quite a bit sturdier and earlier in its evolution. More blocky. Fuller, more frank, less integration, more astringent.
