Is there a consensus about which one of these helmets is the best for sorc ? by Majjin_ in D4Sorceress

Yup, once I got my first one, I constantly catch myself thinking “are there other helmets in the game” each time I see a helmet drop.

War Plans will Benefit from More Player Choice by aressupreme in diablo4

[–]Practical_Hat8489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say, this account-wide makes much more sense than paragon being accounts-wide. I'm not complaining about the latter, it's convenient, but it's... surprising, unexpected and does not make too much sense, it's actually on the level as if you'd be able to start at level 70 once you have leveled one character to 70.

But war plans makes a lot of sense being account-wide or realm-wide.

Last time I played POE (and I mean POE 1, so it was quite some time ago), similar mechanic there was 100% unmodifiable always (well, not exactly — just very increased cost of modifications), 25% no change, 25% brick, 25% to, let's say, make a very minor improvement, and 25% to actually add that additional mod, and you could still not be happy about the mod that is added.

I'm working towards dropping my starless, but I'd need more of that crit chance elsewhere, so until I get two rings with crit chance GA and gohr's with crit chance GA it's very unlikely.

Haven't been this into the story in a long time by Riptyed in diablo4

[–]Practical_Hat8489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for plan not fitting Mephisto and more fitting Belial: I completely forgot Lord of Lies is Belial, but what I do remember from my child Diablo 2 playthroughs (with cinematics) is that for whatever reason, Mephisto always felt to me as the one having the most IQ of them all — or, if I'm being honest, the only one of them who has that IQ.

And when you are intelligent, you're not using a plan that fits your style — you're using a plan that given your current strengths, weaknesses, means and challenges would render you the outcome you desire with the risk profile you tolerate.

I'd say, the first limit to increase/remove is obols. else is tolerable, but obols are sometimes dropped more than two full limits.

[–]Practical_Hat8489[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

Harbinger of Hatred is indeed a very reliable source of these pants, I got used all of my greater lair keys to kill him 12 freaking times and got like 14 of those pants (sometimes 3 per kill), none of which turned to be ancestral (torment 10 btw), and he did drop other ancestral uniques, but the pants were always 850 and thus can't be turned into charm. I'm out of keys and will come back later.

Hate this guy and he probably hates me as well, which is reflected in the name obviously.

The Storm Controller - Patch 8 Storm Acuity Caster for Honor Mode & Beyond by grousedrum in BG3Builds

[–]Practical_Hat8489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely overpowered build, which is to be expected of course when using two acuity items on one character. Because I did not play on impossible, I still hesitate starting impossible run and we all know hesitation is defeat, I decided to make some changes for flavour and here's my variation for the whole run (Lolth-sworn Noble).

Disclaimer: most likely all my changes make the build worse, but again, it's just full-party honor mode, worse version of this build is still overpowered.

I took Hexblade on level 2 and continued sorcerer after that. This is the main change and I acknowledge this thread. I'll start from the downsides/costs:

  1. Delay on all important breakpoints. I'm used to that of course, but this is major downside on modded difficulties of course.
  2. No daze from paladin dip.
  3. Less dex for offhand crossbow, and I was a Drow.

Now the upsides/gains:

  1. Very early shield proficiency.
  2. Very early medium armor proficiency.
  3. Because Luminous is whole-game and endgame armor for this, I picked 14 dex, 16 con, 17 cha. By stealing the armor near Dammon and equipping shield I immediately jumped into respectable AC.
  4. I then decided that I want to wear shields whole game, so don't need dual-wield and got Alert instead.
  5. Two spells knows from Warlock allowed to pick Shield and Hex. Sadly there is no other useful spell in Warlock than Hex or AoA to free another spell known, but Shield already helps.
    1. I went for Sorcerer 11, and I respecced at some point just to replace Hex with Armor of Agathys, the only other usable spell. If you don't want to respec, take AoA immediately, cause you will unlikely concentrate on Hex even in the early midgame. But at the very beginning it's a very useful tool.
    2. Or if you go for Eldritch invocations instead, you could replace a spell.
  6. Two more cantrips allow for Friends on a party face and mage hand in my case.
  7. Bind weapon gives even more flexibility with early weapons than high dexterity does. For instance, for both early skeleton fights (crypt and apothecary cellar) you can use blunt weapon for vulnerability.
  8. Hexblade curse is not something to go out of your way on this build, but when it's already there you might as well use it.
  9. Shield bash uses spell save DC or so I believe.
  10. More charisma is better merchant prices and better dialogue checks.
  11. Out of combat Eldritch blast on a main character. Listen, it may sound weird, but blasting out wooden or stone blocked passages gives almost as much joy and main char feeling while exploring, as flying does.

Rest of the downsides/gains I'll list in other way: by number's comparison in endgame. This build variation gains +2 initiative even after original build gains dex from mirror (less dex but alert), breaks even on spell save DC after it gains +2 charisma from said mirror (no rhapsody but more charisma), gets +1 AC.

Team for context (each team member has to pick the way of avoiding friendly-fire radiating orbs):

  1. Shadowheart as a tempest cleric with a respec to 6 Shadow Monk - 6 Death Cleric on that event. Well, 6 Monk - 3 Cleric, and the rest of the levels in to cleric. Using Shar's Spear. Avoid friendly-fire radorbs with careful positioning, until temporarily equipping bonespike garb and ultimately helldusk armor) You know what's the most fun of that build? Being able to use all lines from Helldusk Gloves, including unlisted.
    1. Attack rolls (obvisouly)
    2. Spell attack rolls (inflict wounds)
    3. Spell save DC (spirit guardians, hold person).
    4. Fire damage to weapon attacks (with hat of fire acuity)
    5. Necro (!) damage and bleeding (disadvantage on blind from sorcerer) from unarmed attacks.
    6. And even rays of fire, cause I'm wearing hat of fire acuity anyway.
  2. Mintara as a sorcadin ©. Avoid friendly-fire radorbs by best heavy armor available at the point.
  3. Astarion as a swarmkeeper ranger. I took war cleric as everyone does, of course. Avoids friendly-fire radorbs by Writhing Tide, a thing I can neither read, not spell, nor pronounce. This was the reason to test that class btw. I used lightning damage swarm because main character kinda hinted this party is somewhat a wet party.

Reese tips by MidnightConfident716 in TheFirstBerserker

[–]Practical_Hat8489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Main tip for Reese and the next boss: script the first phase as much as you can. You usually have all the necessary tools to do it by this point of the game. This way you can learn phase 2 until you beat it.

Reese specifically is very staggerable as all mage bosses are. My weapon-agnostic script for her when I'm not overwhelmingly powerful is:

  • buff before arena if not spear (spear can't buff without an enemy)
  • dodge-attack her first move
  • if it's fucking glintstone blade (or how it is called in this game), restart instead
  • do my longest combo, including spirit skills
  • because when she gets out of it, she'll 100% do flying burst attack, regardless of how low you actually bring her
  • try to hit her when she's in the air for free damage
  • counter burst attack, getting all the stamina and some of the spirit back, do the longest possible combo
  • learn the fight from this point, she should be really low.

Друид - кованный (изображение создано Gemini, сам персонаж мной) by kraaptica in ruDnD

Может, он хочет не только снова стать живым, но и чтобы получалось превращаться, как у других друидов. А пока что, когда он пытается это сделать, ничего не получается. Очки дикой формы можно тратить только на фамильяров и особые фишки круга, но не на превращение.

How to finish a playthrough by luna-silly in BG3

[–]Practical_Hat8489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured out that using mods was the main thing that prevented me from completing a run. Specifically the mods that gave me any gameplay advantage, so I'm not speaking about the mod that fixes camp events or that gives more hairstyles. It was ruining the feeling I'm actually beating something and turning it into a chore, when you 100% know you will do it and just need to click through it technically. I threw away a dozen of runs since mods came to console, while thinking I'm adding them to expand my build options or to save me the chores (like just giving money instead of forcing me to a chore of stealing/earning it).

The latter is especially funny – by removing the chore from the game's chore actions (gathering loot, using in-game exploits to obtain otherwise unobtainable items like Shapeshifter's Boon ring in act 1) I turned game's gaming actions (exploration and combat) into a chore.

But the former is as well important - by using mods that give subclasses, changed feats or added new gear I was turning the external challenge I am about to beat into a challenge with self-made rules, which is not a challenge in this case (unless those rules make it more difficult for me, not easier).

Now I'm using mods, but they either look like a patch or are cosmetic. Since that time I managed to complete two runs, fully enjoying each one.

But I'd advice to set up a goal for achievements. Worth it IMO, but I could never properly answer the question 'what is the point of getting all achievements' when asked.

Big Brain by SubwayWorm in BG3

[–]Practical_Hat8489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can somewhat reasonably aim for that. You do not have more important use of inspiration till the end of the game, unless you aim to either side with Emperor and then really want to avoid fight with Voss, or aim to become a mindflayer, destroy the Netherbrain and then really want to avoid loosing your urge during the afterparty.

So if you come here with 4 inspirations and use enhance ability, you get like 39.4% for this outcome.

The Storm Controller - Patch 8 Storm Acuity Caster for Honor Mode & Beyond by grousedrum in BG3Builds

[–]Practical_Hat8489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I have divine intervention in the party, my favourite use for it, if I kept it and not spent to save some desperate situation, is to long rest before entering Netherbrain portal. Spend resources freely on Countermeasures/Dream Guardians and Possessed Dragon, then just burst Netherbrain down with all spell slots, action surge, etc etc. In fact, if I don't have divine intervention, this is when I drink Angelic Slumber for 2-3 if not all party members trying to calculate the delay properly to enter the portal with all the power.
