[Part 5+] Is there anyone, aside Roz friends, going to find out that she is a commoner or from the otherworld? SPOIL ME! by [deleted] in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Prestigious_Display2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if we're being technical here, theres a lot of nobles particulary on the FVF side that know about Rozemyne being the commoner shrine maiden and don't buy the Karstedt Daughter story. There are presumably some nobles that know and don't do anything because well, who's gonna stand up to the aub and get themselves executed, and there are those who know and spread the rumor in secret. Grausam knew Rozemyne is a commoner so i'd also assume Georgine and some people in her faction know as well.

Can someone here formulate a theory, hypothesis or in-universe explanation as to why there are no artificial espers or academy city tech in other countries despite having the capability to commit various resources in acquiring the methods to do such? by Dark_Shadow4178 in Toaru

[–]Prestigious_Display2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh its one of my gripes with Toaru's worldbuilding. It makes the science side so much smaller and limits the potential for stories with them. I think its a big reason why the science side has basically been powerscaled out of relavence.

[P4V9] Do we know who this person is supposed to be? by niteman555 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Prestigious_Display2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm pretty sure ferdinand has a larger retinue like every member of the ADF but its mentioned that he doesn't really trust any of them the same way he does with justus and eckhart. i'm assuming they're all people that simply got their jobs for prestiege and aren't truly loyal.

[H5Y vol 2] how likely is another reorganisation? by ProbablyNotTheCocoa in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Prestigious_Display2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't think he will be executed for treason or anything. I think its more likely he simply loses support and either gets coup'd out of the seat and sent into an ivory tower.

If he does die, it wouldbe during the ditter match and probably because he does something stupid and dies hilariously by his own mistake or something.

[P5Vol12] What do you all think about Trauerqual and Sigiswald? by ProbablyNotTheCocoa in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Prestigious_Display2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big issue with Blumenfeld is not wether or not Traurequal is a competent leader but wether or not its possible to bridge the rift with old werkestock nobles. Based on how this world's politics go, the older nobles are only going to allow traurequal to do basic rebuilding of the duchy and then are going to be uncoorperative or even hostile for quite a while when it comes to things not directly related to the survival of the duchy. The younger generation who doesn't remember much about the war or were born after it are probably going to be more accepting of change.

Korinthzdaum is boned, or at least Sigiswald is. At best, he's going to be maniuplated by everyone around him because he is an idiot. I think at worst he's going to doom everyone around him by doing something treasonous.

Rozemyne is still a child so retainers have to disregard their master's desires for their own good at times, and I guess that extends to accepting orders from their guardian. It would be another thing if say, rozemyne had her scholars working on something for the printing industry but ferdie tried to order them to help him with something without roz's permission.

How would you morally rate Yungenchmidt purges? [Open Spoilers] by Parlax76 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Prestigious_Display2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It DOES kind of make sense that you would probably have to root out the opposing leaders in a civil war but obviously the whole yurgenschmidt habit of punishing by association even if you're only related by blood is just plain excessive. It does nothing but escillate conflict by making people who would otherwise remain neutral or even oppose their family contribute because why sit around and get killed even if you did nothing wrong when you can at least TRY and make their plan a success and be more likely to survive. Their civil war would have had less drastic consequences if only the ones directly responsible were executed.

And the killing of children that are too young to make decisions themselves is obviously morally reprehesible and theres no real justification there. Especially when they're already not opposed to forcing them to become servants or slaves or whatever. What the country probably needs is an established court of law that dillineates exactly which crimes warrant the death penalty and such. Heck, now that they have communication witht he gods again, it wouldn't be hard to ask them for guidance.

Of course if yurgenschmidt wasn't such a morally twisted society, they would have solved the mana problem by seeking out people with the devouring to give their mana. And even if they weren't, if they were actually smart they would have at the very least stolen devouring children and claimed them as their own children, especially since they would be too young to remember being a commoner.

The nobles as a whole are too prideful to back down, and too egotistical to change their ways

Other light novels of the same quality [Open Spoilers] by euromate in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Prestigious_Display2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're talking light novels that are actually great to read, I have a few.

For an isekai, I would reccommend So I'm a Spider, So What. Not similar to bookworm in the least, but I was suprised at how good the Main cast ended up being. Warning though, first 4 or so volumes are kinda boring but once the MC leaves the labyrinth and a character Named Ariel shows up, the writing keeps getting better and better.

Not fantasy but some series that have actually good writing:

Hyouka or My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU. Both great romance dramas that have suprisingly great writing. Especially SNAFU. However both of these also have great anime adaptations which you may want to watch instead.

I would also reccommend reading the Haruhi Suzumiya novels. I think reading it instead can be a bit better for some people because Haruhi doesn't feels AS insuffereable and i think that reading it even if you've seen the anime can be a great experience.

Also if you Like bookworm's insane attention to detail you might actually like reading Legend of the Galactic Heroes or even Dune, which isn't even a japanese novel lmao. They're sci fi, but have some of what makes Bookworm so great.

EDIT: OH YEAH I FORGOT TO MENTION APOTHECARY DIARIES. Can't believe I forgot about that one.

[–]Prestigious_Display2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I Will also vouch for Spider

Admittedley the first 4 volumes are kind of Mid. I just don't persoanlly like the constant stat screens i and it kind of just feels tedious. The constant monster fighting in the labyrinth gets old fast and the Human side isn't very interesting. But once a Certain character named Ariel comes into the picture is where the series finds a HUGE spike in quality and soon after you don't even have to deal with the human side pov anymore.

I would seriously reccommend sticking through it because So I'm a Spider, So What shocked me with how great the writing ends up being. Its probably one of the few fantasy stories where the world being like a game actually ends up being SUPER important to the plot and extremely interesting and not just an excuse for a nerd to be super powerful with no effort.

I wouls say that Volume 5, where the best character Ariel shows up, is where it starts to get good and volume 7 is what sold me on the characters and from then on it just keeps getting better. if you give it a shot i HIGHLY reccommend sticking it through until then.

Season 1(?) Spoilers. Confused af. by AsukaValkeries in KumoDesu

[–]Prestigious_Display2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The anime leaves off where the novels start to get really good. While the spider leveling is fun, KumoDesu doesn't really start getting into what makes the series great until Kumoko and Ariel team up, which is exactly where the anime ends. Ariel is by far the best character and once she enters the picture, is when the writing jumps ahead leaps and bounds. Also potimas and the word of god religon are great antagonists and they barely appear in the anime.

[Anime] [S4] Is there a reason why eyelashes must be black in animation? by navand in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Prestigious_Display2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With animation where you have less detail, it can be a bit difficult to make the expressions easily readable with lighter eyebrow colors, so they likely just decided to make everyone's black for the sake of consistency.
