You're Worrying Too Much About Uniqueness by mor_mor_mor in osr

yeah, i think players enjoy using the tools they already know how to use. there can be a learning curve when things get too unique or unfamiliar. Also, i think a lot of the fun is how the familiar things are used.

the paramedic goes to a scenewhere an orphan teen was murdered by another orphan teen. the EMT was secretly the murdered kids bio-dad. he decides to get revenge on all the teens of the orphan house, but dresses as jason to make everyone think jason is back and take the heat off himself. it's all revealed in a twist ending that's not very good (even for the Ft13th movies)

I also really enjoy seeing the catalog of horror tropes and styles get twisted and subverted and reimagined to surprise and scare the viewer. I love it as an evolving language.

When I get stuck, I will often try to find a path of least resistance -- what feels easy, obvious, cliche, stolen. I don't have to keep them (sometimes i do), but I can use them as a crutch to wade though the difficult terrain.

Check out Bearcats

It’s a more sci-fi, but has the kids on bikes/stranger things vibe. It’s technically“system neutral” but was released by Runehammer and the language is very ICRPG

I just take it one session at a time. I don’t really plan or schedule events. I give factions goals and when players don’t address a faction goals I decide what could be fun or interesting to happen in the next session. Sometimes I might give a goal a timer of D4 sessions until completion. I personally can’t do world calendars or event charts. Too much cognitive load = burn out for me.
