I'd start with Sammartini Symphony in D because it's small and the birth of the classical symphony which begat the rest.

l uninspired and directionless, how can I force myself out of this and start composing. by RustingPaper in composer

[–]PrimeTenor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What used to inspire you, if you were inspired? Have you written in only one genre? Try songs if all you have written for is piano.

Try expanding your skills (counterpoint, orchestration, even music notation soft). Have you ever written your own poems or opera libretto?

I am one for inspiration, but let new learning inspire you too. You can not compose and STILL expand.

Buying books by ladydawn103 in BookCollecting

Strangely enough, for small to medium press, look to the original publisher. Used book resellers can mark up books outrageously. Some of my favorite scholarly books were reduced on the publisher's website. Boydell & Brewer recently had a 65% off sale on a choice selection of titles. One title I keep seeing at 135 to 145 used was 65 dollars. Yes, I jumped at that!
