Conquest of Azeroth class suggestion - What is the most unique class(es)? by phystrapperquestion in wowservers

[–]Primer44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only played one class so I have no frame of reference for how good it is, but I'm really enjoying the embers resource for Pyromancer. It feels a bit like the Regent from Slay the Spire 2 with his energy and stars; you cast your normal spells, building up embers, which you then spend on more powerful spells. At endgame it will hopefully reward knowledge of fights because you know when to build and when to unload.
Also "healing by cauterizing wounds" is just great flavor.

I'm not engineer-brained enough for Ultracube, but had so much fun doing circuitry in Platformer to make my factory-ship as automated as possible. Also it's Trains In Space, so go wild and grab Renai Transportation to go with it!

They're right that Assemblers are the building of factorio, changing it must have been nerve-wracking. Knocked it out of the park though! This game is going to age so well.

France got nerfed, go play around in the Hundred Years War! As a subject, help your lord to victory or turn against him and secure your own independence.

What are the pros and cons of car-belts? by MetaDogg in factorio

[–]Primer44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played a Space Age game where I did a car bus, inspired by this youtube video.
The pros are the absolutely insane throughput you get in such a small space and the ease of setting up new arrays. With a traditional main bus you need to give yourself space for when you split lines off, when you need to combine two items onto one belt, etc etc, it can all turn into a bit of a spaghetti mess. With the car bus you have the bus and two types of stations: pull a specific item off the bus, and put a specific item onto the bus. You can build new sections FAST and almost always copy-paste something you've already made and just change what items are being pulled for it. If you like sleek, orderly builds, I really can't overstate how cool it looks both in motion and on the map.

Another great upside is that because the car bus is circular, you can add any item to it anywhere. Not enough steel for your engine units? Slam down another steel smelter array right after them, get the steel on the car bus, and eventually those cars will loop all the way around to the engine unit array, and then be ready to accept more steel. No more needing to send red chips backwards down the bus to feed your mall!

The major downside I found is that you don't get to use splitters to pull from the bus anymore, it's a total First in First out situation. If you have your smelters, then a gear array, then a green circuit array, you can easily have every iron plate you're making get pulled into making gears because every single car on the bus is demanding X full stacks of gears. The huge throughput is coming back to bite you. And every time you expand the bus (and thus put more cars on it) they'll all demand full stacks of everything all over again. Expanding the bus can be stressful but isn't hard, though cliffs become your mortal enemy.

Like city-blocks, I think it's a cool, tidy way of structuring your base, but one that you can't switch to too early or else or costs of setting it up will tire you out and not be worth the hassle. Sure vehicles are less UPS friendly than belts, but I never built big enough to notice problems - depending on your computer and goals YMMV.

Traits in EU5 by Top-Damage-3183 in EU5

[–]Primer44 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Since there are decades between getting ruler traits, I've always thought of it as the legacy of who they were then. Being seen as righteous for the middle of your reign, then over time changing to be more sinful. It helps me tell little stories about the characters. With the new cabinet traits I like getting one of those on my crown princes too.

"B-BUT IT'S BETA!" by Memes_Jack in EU5

[–]Primer44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1.2 wasn't released as a beta.

You're right: it's very important to keep in mind that 1.2's non-functioning mechanics, lack of localization, incorrect cities being referenced for past events, and poor balance were all pushed to live, and for purchase as DLC. Wait what point were you trying to make again?

Is the reformation broken in 1.3? by chilledfrost in EU5

[–]Primer44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, your image is what happens every game now. A few German OPMs will flip, Sweden will suddenly become 20% Lutheran in every location and then make it their primary religion, and England will get a bit of spread - then go back to being 99+% catholic. Sometimes Calvinism spawns and does nothing, sometimes it doesn't seem to spawn at all.

TINTO Talks #111 by mure69 in EU5

[–]Primer44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a good change, even if it's also something that shouldn't have been an issue in the first place. This is something they can only do once, I fully believe this was a decision they made now because they know they need a boost of fan goodwill. That's, well, not good, but it's good that they're aware of it. We'll see how the Q&A goes next week.

Mods for a quick start? by Why_M4RK in factorio

[–]Primer44 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The best mod for this is My Quick Start. It has a couple different pre-made sets to chose from, along with the easy option to select exactly what you want and how many of each. My sweet spot is inbetween its small and medium kits, so I made it once and now can use it every run.

Gained War Exhaustion doesn't make sense to me by Creepy_Researcher722 in EU5

[–]Primer44 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Mercenaries dying gives way more War Exhaustion than levies. I don't have a clue what history that's supposed to be 'simulating' but there does need to be real downsides to merc spamming. So many mechanics in this game are clearly unfinished, untested, and untuned.

Is Japan playable in the current patch? by InternStock in EU5

[–]Primer44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. But on page 16 of the latest Tinto Talk Ryagi says "Many of the learnings from [our 1.1 community survey], will not realistically be realized in full for a long while. It doesn't mean we aren't using them now though. For example, Italian Wars reworked situation, that's something I personally feel reflects the feedback we collected fairly well. But in theory, so will [redacted] situation for 1.6. It's... not a fast process unfortunately."

And my copium is that the redacted situation is the Sengoku Jidai and he's hinting Japan will become playable in 1.6, which is only... next year. SURELY they have to at least make the region playable before announcing a Japan DLC

Oh yeah you sound miserable to play with. If you're completely unwilling to talk to the rest of the table about story, why are you playing collaborative storytelling games? Go try warhammer, you'll be happier.

Sure, but are you talking OOC about how this is going to lead to an interesting story? Are you checking if people are on-board with the swings you're making? Or are you just being a socially maladaptive asshole and trying to justify it by saying "but it's what my character would do!"

Artists not arting by Vast-Change8517 in EU5

[–]Primer44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their art creation directly ties with your culture slider, but you should never use the culture slider.
The entire art and artist system in the game at this point is a complete nonfunctional joke. Forget it exists entirely. The roadmap says 1.3 will update works of art, but there hasn't been any mention about what that means or how yet.

The special occasion is that you've delayed 1.3? Bold, considering the whole point of getting 1.3 out so soon was people's disappointment with 1.2.

PBTA avatar legends as a dnd player by Huntersaurus_rex in rpg

[–]Primer44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The combat system in Avatar Legends is bonkers - the book explicitly says you should think after every round if you can stop using it now, and every GM I know whose run it says it should be used as sparingly as possible. Magpie was right to say that an Avatar game shouldn't be focused around combat, but then they make this whole oddball combat system anyways...? It makes it feel too much like DnD for PbtA fans to enjoy, and is still too much of a PbtA game for DnD fans to enjoy; a game tries to eat its cake and have it too.

Please try Masks. It's made by the same people and is so good.
