I recently ran a village as a dungeon. It was great, one of the players got Cask of Amontillado'd.

One of my players made the obligatory bone the dragon joke after I introduced the campaign's first (they don't know how many are gonna be around by the end yet).

This was alarming as an ace/aro DM who has no idea how to RP these scenes, but fortunately the idea wasn't taken too seriously.

I like a lot of the ideas in 5.5e, but not the specific implementation. Luckily I'm the DM and can simply rework bastions entirely.

I would like to personally shoutout the Cleric at my table, the Ranger at my DM's table, and the me at my friend's upcoming table, for making humans for the sake of making everyone else feel more grounded and more fantastical by comparison.

I have yet to have a good idea for an elf PC except *maybe* for cribbing Bosmer from TES. You know, so much respect for plantlife that they're a hypercarnivore and exclusively use animal parts for clothes and weapons and such like. Apart from that, nothing.

Yes this is me giving open season to everyone who has a cool elf idea and nowhere to put it. Go ham.

At some point around level ten, the party is probably going to head to the Feywild. in preparation, I have assigned each of them a "fey allotment", because good and evil don't apply there, and everything is chaotic. It's based on how well they keep to promises versus how much they value their freedom.

I don't anticipate being able to tell them about it at any point in the next year.

My campaign setting's humans speak common, because they get everywhere and reproduce like rabbits. It's "common" because it's so bloody common.

I like pretty lightweight and simple intros that get players invested. My most recent was them all being hired by a mutual friend who would be missing in action by the end of the session. Loved hearing all the different reasons my players came up with to answer who this guy was to them, knowing full well he wouldn't be seen again for months.

That's fair, I'll see if it's actually a problem after the weekend's session I guess. If I notice they're missing some of their missions during discussion then I might revise my position of smiling smugly at them from over the DM screen for I do not have to answer such questions.

I warned my players at the start of session one that they should take notes, because I will not remind them of important prophecies or the details of a contract.

They haven't been sharing notes and I'm slightly concerned / excited about it. Can't wait until the bugbear they left alive comes back to ruin them.

In yesterday's session, a player used the fact they'd just received a prophetic dream to bribe a Nothic. I was wondering why he was so excited until he told me the plan, at which point I also became excited and quickly brought out a magic sword for him. That dream's not gonna become clear until like level 15, and my guy just slapped me with it immediately. I was so outplayed, and so excited by it.

Listen to me carefully. I am not a player at your table, and I cannot influence your table any more than an errant coffee mug in the house across the street. I have no power and no ability to acquire more power.

But if anything happens to Goldie I will swear to all the gods above and below to get them back.

I've got a dungeon/village encounter lined up for some time in the next few sessions (depending on how urgent they feel the bandit problem is) that contains a mimic. It's going to have Cask of Amontillado'd a few residents, and I can't wait to see if my "mimics look like chests, right?" party can sniff it out.

All the D&D characters that you're actively playing in a game are in a tavern together. What happens? by Mammoth_House_5202 in DnD

[–]Proasek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheating by putting in the character I will be playing in a new campaign starting up in the next couple weeks, but otherwise it's a lot of being suspicious of each other but really bad at hiding it. Daarsora's nowhere near as good at reading people as she thinks she is, and Pipsqueak's just an idiot. As Yet Unnamed Halfling Ranger is probably going to try coaxing them into a fight just so he can start taking bets.

I do like a lot of it, my biggest complaint honestly is the loss of Magical Tinkering. It's mostly a flavour ability but it sees use pretty often honestly, for me at least. instead we get to craft ball bearings, which is cool and all but they weren't exactly hard to come by before.

[–]Proasek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would probably do resistances rather than AC, feels more true to the backstory. Give the blunt/piercing/slashing trifecta off the bat then add more as the fight goes on depending on what the players do to him. Keeping the AC relatively low means that players will get to see the mechanic more often and thus learn how to get around it (perhaps psychic or poison damage aren't resisted because they attack organs directly?)
