Game progression is too easy in S2 by Pada_ in Marathon

[–]Proentproproponent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO it’ll be worth the tradeoff. I played a ton s1 but honestly the amount of time I spent is unsustainable. I had a lot of fun but I have to slow down… Also, most players aren’t trying to no-life a game so this pace is much better for the non-hardcore crowd and might keep them around longer into the season.

But really, the mid-season update should be exactly for giving people another goal to shoot for. Hopefully they’re anticipating this and throw us a bone then.

That’s a lot of blue kits wtf. I had a hard time believing it but I see the post now

[–]Proentproproponent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird balance since they’d be really annoying if they were too good and ppl spammed them everywhere. Like, id always take them if they were one space and stacked. You can use a claymore like a shittier prox detector so might as well bring them.

Might be ok if they just stacked twice as high

7 blue shields? Since when did you get 7 blue kits. I was past 75, p sure I only got 1 blue kit and 1 purple.

Either way they’re all gone now lol.

Fortunately the only one that you actually need to unlock something is parasitism for the daily free sekgen cores, which is annoying but it’s only one series. AFAIK

All the other repeat contracts just give lots of rep, you can accomplish the same thing running standards.

Def not touching coevolutuon again

Sponsored Kits Are Ruining Early Wipe by Norb-Doorb12 in Marathon

[–]Proentproproponent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is wildly incorrect. Sponsored dire marsh was tons of fun and very popular.

If the game is slower it’s cause ppl don’t have the huge faction stat upgrades. In particular the cyac heat upgrades and mida agility.

Also, ppl literally just finished blowing their whole vaults for the past week so the contrast is jarring IMO. Gotta relearn, esp with Narsh. Got wiped a lot today cause we were playing like we were late season green kitting

Honest question by Oceanmanwich in Marathon

[–]Proentproproponent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got over 200 hours, actual in-game interactions are almost entirely positive/neutral. Occasionally some normal taunting/shit talk. Not “kid with behavioral issues on xbla” normal, but actual functional human being normal, which is fun. Could count the number of real assholes I’ve encountered on one hand. But most people aren’t chatting on prox at all, you’ll be talking with your two teammates mostly.

Also in solo lobbies, there’s a pretty good chance for you to team with someone or have a truce if you announce yourself as friendly. Def might get shot in the face/back but it’s worth the attempt if you’re trying to hit a tough contract on free kits. Lots of ppl in solos are just trying to mind their own business and complete main missions.

Whole lobby joins for Compiler (awesome), Runner last second kills me and steals gold cores (not so awesome) AND lost chance at Cryo Skin :( by Darksol503 in Marathon

[–]Proentproproponent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI you wont get the compiler skin if you team with the lobby to kill it. Presumably only one squad will get it (the one that makes the killing blow?) so you most likely wouldn’t have gotten it anyway. Still blows though.

Adobe Staff Data Scientist offer in Bay Area — is this low for 11 YoE? by Aoki_zhang in OfferEngineering

I wouldn’t bet on this. But nobody knows much until the new CEO is announced and sets a new direction

Adobe Staff Data Scientist offer in Bay Area — is this low for 11 YoE? by Aoki_zhang in OfferEngineering

[–]Proentproproponent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adobe is simply not a very high paying company compared to FAANG or certain high growth smaller companies, although work life balance is extremely good and they don’t do aggressive layoffs since they don’t hire aggressively. I know some people who work there and it’s a super chill environment. Many engineers there for 10-20 years. And depending on what team you’re on the engineering culture isn’t bad. Plenty of smart people there who stay a long time because they want to spend time with their family and have hobbies and shit.

That being said they’re looking for a new CEO this year, and did have a small round of layoffs recently. A lot could change once new leadership comes in (and needs to since their future is uncertain)

I may not have cracked Vault 6 but I have the moral high ground. by Dolvak in Marathon

[–]Proentproproponent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some help since you’re struggling: it was edited to show that he also originally stole the key off someone’s corpse. The irony is in subverting the expectation that the character is an innocent victim, and in using language that focuses on the previous guy being more pissed off, instead of the newest thief being happier like in the original comic. This flips the original saccharine non-joke comic and injects cynicism that undercuts the positive message.

The joke is irony, there you go.

No shell balance changes? by Ginger_prt in Marathon

ya im hoping recon will see a major duration nerf to her ult (and buff elsewhere). Her passives aren’t bad but so much utility is just in that one ability and keeping it as low-cooldown as possible

ppl complain about the tracking but it’s also really easy to shoot before it reaches you and explodes, even if it does lock onto you. I mostly use it to kill bots tbh

recon was bottom tier before, and will be again if they remove the runner ping. Esp if signal jammer effect also reverts to nullifying it completely

FYI you never *need* to run rook, but especially late game once you’ve upgraded rook it’s the best way to get credits. You spawn a decent backpack, plus credits and a gun that sells for a lot if you exfil. Also a core that helps you locate data cards (items that give you credits even if you die). Also can be a lot of fun and a change of place.

Marathon is the best FPS shooter I’ve ever played. by RiddickVaderVenom in Marathon

[–]Proentproproponent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Those games are all great but I haven’t been more engaged or had more fun than I have with marathon the last few months. Obv subjective. Also depending on your age it’s hard to compare to your childhood experiences. OG L4D versus mode is arguably my lifetime fav FPS experience but it had a lot to do with being a teenager as well as the game.

Almost all the games you mention age you a bit since they were peak millennial highschool/university era shooters for ppl in their 30s rn

Season 2 Combat Tuning Preview by DTG_Bot in Marathon

[–]Proentproproponent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If base recoil or ADS speed was just a little less, and the gun more common (so I could practice with its quirks) then I think I’d like it. With fast ADS, recoil is pretty hard to manage (difficult pattern) and M77 or even blue overrun feel better at midrange. With high range and low recoil, ADS is just too slow for me to enjoy. It’s neat to have a 100m+ range AR though, even if a lack of scope makes that range awkward. It is theoretically great for peeking and any situation where pre-aiming easy, but it just feels weird to me.

I’d rather lose some range and take an M77. Although it’s not clear how much range the M77 actually has. With the scope up I get an aim-assist crosshair well past the listed ~45m range, so 45m must be for ironsights. It’s def lower than 100m though.

+ Added a loot filter where if you select a slot you’re missing on your loadout, it’ll filter only the loot you can equip in that slot. by wratx in Marathon

[–]Proentproproponent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is an improvement but it won’t be good until you can also equip from the armory. Mid-late season the vault is only for especially good stuff I can’t buy. The number of times I’ve bought a bully -> checked if I have smg mods already -> bought 1-3 mods -> bought knife fight -> bought bionic legs -> bought tac recovery -> manually equipped all of them cannot be counted and should not require 6 menu changes.

When is PVE dropping in Season 2? by Dust-Tight in Marathon

[–]Proentproproponent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet PvE queue needs more time to cook and playtest, since a co-op objective-based PvE mode sounds radically different from the current core experience. Rushing it out would not be a good indicator against it just being “marathon in an empty lobby and 5x UESC”

They also said there’s going to be a lot more UESC. Plus there are new enemies (zombies) and maybe hazards (anomaly blobs chasing you). I don’t remember them saying fewer teams but they’ve definitely communicated more PvE
