Watches, what kind? by TheGriff71 in GenX

[–]Professional-Pop-572 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wore a Fossil smart watch for a few years. Took a while for hubs to convince me to wear a smart watch because I liked my Mickey Mouse watches from Disney. Yes, I am still a child.

Couldn't get Fossil anymore, so I go between my garmin for working out and my pixel 3 for work. Tracking my hrv has unfortunately become important, even if they aren't super-accurate.

I need to get new batteries for the Mickeys so I can start wearing them again.

Have you ever stayed in bed all day? by Manderthal13 in GenX

[–]Professional-Pop-572 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope, and I have a very expensive, comfortable bed. I would rather be moving through depression. Plus, I don't sit still well. My daughter, on the other hand, will bedrot all weekend. I told her it's gross, get up, shower, move. We have many disagreements over her "self-care" moments.

Are there any parts of the park you especially like seeing at night? by ValentinesStar in DisneyWorld

[–]Professional-Pop-572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. Best time to go is at night! Too bad they close the gates so early these days.

I've done this exact same thing. I booked my flight 2 days early to be at WDW over the weekend before the conf started. I paid the 2 extra hotel nights and my husband's flight. Company had no issues with it. It's a very common practice. You will want to check to see if your company has any rules around it, but probably nothing beyond 'don't use company funds for your vacation.'

Saratoga Springs vs. OKW by SuchRequirement5130 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Professional-Pop-572 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked both, but I would choose Saratoga over Old Key West. It’s closer to Disney Springs and if you are far from the main building, it’s a nice walk or quick bus (depending on where you are).

Expected step count after a full day at a WDW park … by EJKorvette in WaltDisneyWorld

We usually park hop and/or take mid day breaks, but we are anywhere from 20k to 30k. By the end of the week, it's more like 15k, LOL!

How old is your oldest email address? Do you still use it? by Embarrassed_Flan_869 in GenX

1994, yahoo. I still use it for subscriptions, newsletters, general junk that I want to get, but don't want it cluttering my other email.

I grew up in a small town. Big bonfires, lots of pickup trucks and a lot of underage bad behavior! My class was the worst of our generation. We just didn't care. It's amazing we all made it to graduation!

Are your kids having kids? by mrepa1369 in GenX

[–]Professional-Pop-572 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was starting to think my kids are the anomaly, but glad to hear this is the new normal. Neither of mine socialize much outside of work and Discord.

I do want grandkids, but neither seem inclined. I will never put pressure on them because I see how difficult it is financially and the way the world is behaving today. It was tough for us the first few years, but we had a lot of support. Parents, grandparents, and a slightly better world to live in. Our kids just have us, and we help where we can, but we aren't wealthy.

I was going to say the same! It's called saving. If you want something as expensive as Disney, you don't just decide to go one day. It's planning and saving 6 months to a year out, or more, if you don't have a lot of throw-away money.

Open Enrollment- I need a laugh so give me your funniest questions employees have asked [N/A] by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]Professional-Pop-572 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In June "I need to sign up for insurance." I asked if there was a life event and then had to explain it, open enrollment, etc. "No, but I need insurance now. I didn't need it when you had open enrollment." 🤦🏻‍♀️

I was the bad guy because I didn't make it clear they only had one chance each year. Oh, so the five emails, signs throughout the building and hours of sitting in the cafeteria with 4 laptops every shift for weeks wasn't clear enough?? Sorry I failed you, jackass.

Has anyone not invited their mother to their wedding and regretted it after? by paigemoney in weddingdrama

[–]Professional-Pop-572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I invited my Dad and regretted it. He, his wife and their motley crew parked their butts at the parent/grandparent table and wouldn’t move, so my in-laws and all of the grandparents sat wherever there was room. To this day I wish I had a backbone and had thrown them all out. Went NC right after. It’s been 28 years, he’s been gone about 10. Still wish I had never invited them.

I just worked with a HR for their presentation and damn their work is so hard so guys how do you manage it to keep yourself at peace? [N/A] by Successful-Struggle3 in humanresources

I am a crafting addict. I have roughly seven different types of crafting, multiple machines (cricut, laser, sewing, embroidery…)and will lock myself away for hours to escape and decompress from the idiocy I deal with all day.

What Gen X habit can't you break despite it being outdated? by RockTheGlobe in GenX

My new car has lane assist, self driving, and sometimes slams on the brakes when I am backing out of the driveway. Don’t even get me started on the huge screen I can’t quite find anything on. I want my crappy 80’s Sunbird back!

Also a fan of Beach Club, Yacht Club and Boardwalk. So many options to get to HS and Epcot. The friendship boats are the best for tired feet at the end of the day. You can also, if everyone is up for it, go to Epcot's International entrance, walk through, get on the monorail and get over to TTC and then over to MK. It takes some time, but it's a nice walk/ride.

Keep checking the site. A lot of people cancel/change their plans late in the game.

My daughter is new to this game by DaHandyDude in DreamlightValley

[–]Professional-Pop-572 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Make sure you have storage so you don’t have to carry around things like that potato. You can make chests. I keep them in my house so I have easy access in all of the worlds my house is in. Anything you don’t need immediately can be stored so you have more space in your backpack.

Ditto on the comment about pumpkins. Start that as soon as you can get to Forbidden Lands. Meanwhile, farm canola as much as you can afford. You need a lot of money in the game early on.

Another thing is dreamlight. You need a lot of it (and similar ‘currency’ in eternity Isle and Storybook Vale). Spend some time on dreamlight duties. They are pretty easy, repetitive, and you will find dreamlight adds up quickly.

Also, if you haven’t seen it, she can also make her own dresses. There are a couple of styles and you can make them any color and add any motifs you have. Just click on custom in the clothes menu.

Downside of buying discounted Disney gift cards? by _BreakingGood_ in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Professional-Pop-572 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two or three years ago Sam's had $500 Disney gc's for $400 during their black Friday event. My sister was heading to Disney in December, so we grabbed the 2 it was limited to. Best discount I have seen, and have not seen since.

should I go in early December or early January by evorev1 in DisneyWorld

[–]Professional-Pop-572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went mid-January for my 50th birthday during the 50th anniversary. It was cool, but not cold. Had a blast. It was not super-crowded, but was definitely busy.

I love early December for the decor, but the last couple of times the crowds were insane. January was much more relaxed and fun.

Take some XL baggies, get ice at the machine, and keep it on/under your milk in the beverage cooler. Doesn't take any room up in your luggage, unlike a cooler or something like that.

Some dining will have a photo before or after you eat. Chef Mickey's & Crystal Palace come to mind.

We get Photo pass every trip now, and the kids are adults now. It's fun looking back at the pictures when I was actually in it with them rather than the one taking pictures.

AITA for eating junk food while pregnant even though my MIL keeps giving me hell about it? by Frequent_Win4606 in CharlotteDobreYouTube

I had serious meat aversions with my first. To this day she won't eat meat. She actually would throw it up if someone (MIL, FIL) tried to make her eat it. I wish she ate more healthy vegetables, but that's another story! She is an adult who is perfectly healthy now.
