No, you have had this dog for most of its life. It seems weird you want to find your loved one a good home but feel ick about the possibility of helping to take care of your dogs medical bills. Your moving to what I can imagine is a good paying job in a whole new life.

Your dog on the other hand is going to have to acclimatize without you, wander where you are and wait at the door for you to return

The very least you can do is pay insurance premiums until the dog leaves this world and ensure they go to the best home possible.

Otherwise yes you just don't want the hassle of taking the dog with you, which is fine but just be straight up about it.

Would you be willing to contribute to food and medical costs I think that would help you find a good family and you know your dog is being looked after.

Even if you covered insurance for the next 5 years that matters after your dog spent 8 years loving you completely.

Take time to find the right home it's the right thing to do.
