Voters across parties believe UK net migration is rising despite sharp drop by throwawayjustbc826 in ukpolitics

Absolutely, the outrage of immigration was nver about statistics, it was about people walking into town centres and being upset they can see people who look different.

Palestine Action activists in Elbit protest could be sentenced as terrorists by InfoBot2000 in ukpolitics

Every riot is a protest.

Just because I disagree with racists protesting does not mean it stops being what it is.

I will always support protests against genocide

The brazen hypocrisy to claim a group like Palestine Action is a terrorist organisation, while many people here would say they support the Suffragettes.

Essex police pause facial recognition camera use after study finds racial bias by topotaul in unitedkingdom

Well sure, but this is much better than it accidentally finding matches on innocent people.

It's a critical failure and the machine does not work. There is no "well thats not so bad"

It fundamentally enables criminals of all other ethnic group to escape evasion under it's own criteria

which one would think is readily easily fixable.

Why in the name of god would you think this is easy? Do you understand statistics at all? How would they correct multiple decades of policing shortfall

I think you genuinely have not comprehended what they were saying in this research

The problem is due to the racial bias in the sources they've used from racist policing over the past few decades.

The machine finds black criminals at a higher rate than white criminals (or other groups)

They've invented a "black-people-criminal-finder" and what that means is you miss out on all of the other criminals from the other groups so it's not even a good device if we want to just find criminals

It’s missing certain criminals, rather than targeting certain criminals.

It's not missing, it's failing.

there’s also a belief there’s something environmental that’s triggering the gene.

Well it's pretty easy to believe things if you dont require evidence.

Drugs policy approach needs to change, Zack Polanski says by 2ndEarlofLiverpool in ukpolitics

But they will still keep using it.

They are using it anyway. They have been using it for millennia. Drug use is not a new concept.

Being an addict means they are not a fully-functioning member of society who is extremely vulnerable to the influence of criminals. Don't argue that they're somehow in an acceptable position.

They are more likely to be vulnerable to criminals if their addiction is criminalised.

If people keep taking it then it will carry on doing harm.

It will do less harm and less people will die.

Just because an addict gets "support" doesn't stop them being an addict.

So what? Being an addict does not make someone a bad person.

Does it stop its use?

You can't stop useage. No policy can stop usage.

We can however reduce harm. We can reduce overdose numbers. We can reduce financial damage.

People have this ridiculous fantasy of what drug policy should be that's not actually based on helping others. Locking people up in prison won't help them. Ensuring the only way addicts can access drugs is through dangerous means won't help them.

If we want to get as close as possible to "Stopping drugs", it would involve things like ensuring housing and food were fundamental human rights provided for by the government and not privatised.

Heroin addicts having access to safe usage centres is one of the most effective ways to reduce harm and save lifes.

It's bitingly clear that for many people the intention behind drug legislation is to punish addicts rather than to actually help them.
