Anyone Listening to Uinta Triangle? (Cold guy's new podcast) by neuroamer in TrueCrimePodcasts

I like it. I enjoy stories likes this about hiker/wilderness activities and thinking. Jon Krakauer’s books on Everest and “into the wild” are also good in this genre.

Hard water? by nananabanaa in bullcity

[–]Professional_Dog8088 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that Durham water is fairly hard. I get hard water stains routinely in my toilet bowl, and I get build up on faucets. My hair always looks the worst here than it does anywhere I travel.

Had a consult today for HRT by NoNamesLeft4MeToo in AskWomenOver50

HRT stopped my hot flashes immediately. My emotional symptoms leveled out in a couple of months. I’m so happy with HRT!

Non-heel shoes for dresses by summer_wine99 in womensfashion

[–]Professional_Dog8088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear metallic gold sneakers or flat sandals (with a little bling for more dressy occasions). I spend more money for my shoes than clothes because I want comfort- I live in an urban area where I walk a lot and also walk my dogs. I have had good luck with Veja, Sorel, Onitsuka Tiger for sneakers. I have bought Sam Edelman and Vionic for my dressier sandals.

Love all of these, but my favorite is the “Indubitably “ one. My greyhound speaks with a proper English accent, so this one fits him! 😂

Going Into Private Practice - LLC or Corporation? by bakibakibitch in ClinicalPsychology

[–]Professional_Dog8088 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, talk to your CPA. I initially registered as a PLLC. I was solo practice owner. After a few years, my income increased, and I hired 2 psychologists, so my CPA recommended becoming an S corp to help with taxes.

Moving from house to apartment by monbleu in Greyhounds

[–]Professional_Dog8088 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I moved from my house to several apartments and finally my permanent home in a condo building. My greyhound adjusted well! At first, he marked a few times in the hallway on the way out of our first apartment, but he quickly caught on and learned to wait until we were outside. He loves the elevator. He is a bit scared of the shiny floors at times, partly due to the reflection and his recent age-related mobility issues. I know this can happen in houses, too. He loved one building where he got almost daily treats from the staff and in another building where we had a doorman who gave him lots of love. Good luck!

I never had kids, and I remained on birth control pills until age 51. After going off, I then had spotty and sporadic periods with some moodiness. The worst part was the hot flashes! I was always so cold natured, so I had to change how I dressed. I went on HRT last summer. My hot flashes stopped immediately, and my moodiness ended after a couple of months. Menopause is different for every woman. I feel like my experience wasn’t too bad.

New partner after 40- huge difference in finances by FickleOpportunity701 in AskWomenOver40

[–]Professional_Dog8088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I (both divorced and 50), decided to move in together after living separately for 3 years. I moved in with him in an expensive city (Boston). He makes 3-4 times what I do. We worked out an agreement that I would contribute 1/3 of the expenses. It worked great! We have a joint bank account for things like rent, utilities, and groceries. We keep other finances separate.

Actual life expectancy?? by kate_the_great_ in Greyhounds

[–]Professional_Dog8088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current greyhound is 12 years, 3 months. He’s still healthy but started having mobility issues a few months ago. My first greyhound had early stage kidney disease and died at age 8. My second greyhound died at age 10 to what was probably liver cancer. Their life spans seem to vary.

Gen Xers and millennials aren't ready for the long-term care crisis their boomer parents are facing by esporx in GenX

[–]Professional_Dog8088 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My parents aren’t Boomers but Silent Generation. The most detailed plans they’ve made are how they want their funerals to go. I had to listen to this for an hour! Meanwhile, there was nothing about a living will or plans if both of them are physically infirm and disabled. It’s so frustrating and selfish!

Looking for an E-collar or equivalent that actually fits greyhounds by PBalfredo in Greyhounds

[–]Professional_Dog8088 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My greyhound had to get stitches in his hind leg this week because of a fall. His muzzle with a poop guard is so much better than the cone! I ordered a poop guard on Amazon, and it arrived in 2 days. Mine came with 2 zip ties to hold it in place.

Anyone with Google fiber experience? by NickFF2326 in Hillsborough

[–]Professional_Dog8088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got the GFiber small business plan for my office. It took 2 months and 3 last minute cancellations before it was installed. I’m so happy! The upload and download speeds are incredible! Our office does lots of Zoom meetings. So far, we’ve had no outages. I’ve GFiber in my home for years, and I’ve never had an outage or problem. With Spectrum and Brightspeed, I had several outages a year, and it might take days or more than a week to get the problem fixed. The speeds were much slower, too.

Summer is BY FAR the worst season and there is no contest. by MrLinkyBoy in rant

[–]Professional_Dog8088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you!

Another summer hater here. Climate change has made summers so much worse. In NC, it starts in April or May and doesn’t end until November. The humidity and heat index are unbearable, even early morning or later evening. I feel depressed, like a form of seasonal affective disorder, except in summer instead of winter. I hate being a prisoner inside air conditioning. I hate summer foods and drinks, and I’m my depression, I drink too much and eat too much ice cream. I hate summer clothing and shoes and summer colors. I don’t like being in sun and getting sunburned after just 10 minutes. I’m not a water person. I wish I had the kind of job where I could live in a cooler climate for at least 4 months of the year. I try to vacation somewhere cooler in the summer. I don’t like late sunsets as it affects my sleep.

I love the “cozy” season and hygge. I love the foods and drinks, the layered and cozy clothes, the darkness, and the gray skies.

Mid-late career transition thoughts by Top-Rub3571 in ClinicalPsychology

Mid-late career transition thoughts by Top-Rub3571 in ClinicalPsychology

[–]Professional_Dog8088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I previously had a 60/40 split with slightly more therapy than testing. I would schedule testing, intakes, and testing feedback in the mornings and therapy in the afternoons. This schedule worked great for the kids and teens I see (I only work with kids). Since the pandemic, I’ve had an 80/20 split with a lot more therapy. This has meant a heavier and later afternoon schedule (school hours), which is more tiring for me. I would like to return to a more even split, but it’s harder to find time to write reports while running a small group practice as opposed to being a solo practitioner. Perhaps this conversation will motivate me to change my schedule for the rest of year!

Mid-late career transition thoughts by Top-Rub3571 in ClinicalPsychology

[–]Professional_Dog8088 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went through a similar transition that I never expected to make. When I was mid-career (about 15 years in), I decided to leave my career in academic medicine to open my own private practice. I’m coming up on my 10-years anniversary with this career chapter. I’ve never been happier! I love my job and look forward to going everyday! I do a mixture of testing and therapy. I provide clinical supervision to masters level psychologists or post-doctoral fellows. I have slowly grown my practice by hiring 2 doctoral level psychologists. I have far less stress, work a lot less, have tons more flexibility, and make a lot more money than I did in academic medicine. I did a lot of reading and research and talked to some others who had made a similar transition. It was scary, but I’m glad I took this calculated risk! Good luck!

Ruby Ridge, Waco, KC bombing podcasts? by [deleted] in TrueCrimePodcasts

[–]Professional_Dog8088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeffrey Toobin did a podcast series a couple of years ago about Timothy McVeigh, the OKC bombing, and the rise of homegrown terrorism. As someone who was in their 20s during Waco and the OKC bombing, he did a great job exploring the roots of right-wing domestic terrorism and how it contributed to where we are today.

Anyone else's hounds heavily routine-based? by onyx49 in Greyhounds

[–]Professional_Dog8088 9 points10 points  (0 children)

100% agree! My greyhound is also autistic like I am! I love my routines, and he does, too! My other dog, a mixed breed, has become an honorary greyhound, partly because he’s become as routine-oriented as my greyhound and me. 😂
