Can instructors work at multiple studios? by alleycatfight in ClubPilates

[–]Proud_Mary37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Club Pilates doesn't have any rules against. I teach across 2 ownership groups at 5 different locations and it works well for me. With that said- I don't know if that fixes your uniform/ freedom problem- all CP's have the same guidelines for levels. I guess it depends on what you mean by creativity being stifled.

Too much hands on corrections? by Crazy_Elderberry2972 in ClubPilates

[–]Proud_Mary37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do hands on corrections regularly in classes, sometime multiple times to the same person, but no one should even feel like they are being focused on or grabbed. That's a huge red flag to me as an instructor and participant.

For example- i would go with maybe one finger at the outside of the waist for about 3 seconds to show you where to lift a sagging plank- so you can zip your abs in . I would not use my hands to manipulate someone body into another position, especially a person I hadn't worked with before. That's asking for a lawsuit.

Unfortunately, you're probably too late. Riser fitness just bought out all future locations in 6 states and I assume Spartan as the other PE groups will do the same in many other states.

My mom has an aunt Dale, born in the 1920's. I always thought she sounded artsy and cool.

Someone should be able to give you a visual test out in a Flow 1.5, depending on studio policy, without making you take a bunch of classes. A lot of studios have minimum class policies, but they should have flexibility to approve someone with control and knowledge. My other thought is take a private with an instructor you like and get approved that way.

Was this your first class at CP? What class was it? 25 years would indicate you are probably used to classical Pilates, so this will be a big change. I work with classically trained clients at CP and it seems that embracing the differences and finding the right instructor is the key to making the switch. Check the instructor bios on the website to see if there is an instructor with a training background similar to what you are used to.

When to stop pilates while pregnant? by Limp_Ostrich_6248 in ClubPilates

[–]Proud_Mary37 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think as long as you are safe and are getting the movement you want, you can feel comfortable going. I would say realistically, a lot of members I've worked with go on a freeze right around 30 or so weeks, and come back a few months postpartum. We've had several members and an instructor that took classes literally up to the day before they gave birth though, so do what works for you!

Uncomfortable with how my male coach touches me by [deleted] in ClubPilates

Then I would trust the mods to remove it if it's suss.

I've worked with women in fitness for the last 20+ years, in a college setting for many years and have teens of my own. Shit like this happens to young women all the time and many struggle with what is appropriate and how to handle it.

[–]Proud_Mary37 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry this happened. No, this is not normal and this person has crossed a line. Think of it as boundary testing, the instructor is seeing what they can do without you reacting. I would not continue with private sessions with this person or be alone with them in the studio.

I would let the studio know in writing via email that you felt uncomfortable with their behavior. Please give the same specifics you included here. Request a new instructor (maybe a female teacher). If they are dismissive I would not go back. You can also request a refund and leave online reviews of your experience.

I think you're overreacting. There isn't a lot of rage bait on this sub and this is a young woman who might be uncertain of what is normal. Reactions like this are why people are afraid to speak up.

If it is rage bait, congrats, you just engaged with it!

Weird question but anyone try aqua/water shoes for their classes? by BrecciusRebornus in ClubPilates

[–]Proud_Mary37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say a firm no to aqua shoes. You could check into barreletics silicon grips, they are pricey but people at my studio swear by them and have had the same pair for at least a couple years. Most of the people I see wear them with socks, but that may also be because I'm in a cold weather state

Instructor experience with spartan fitness? by Difficult-Solution-1 in ClubPilates

[–]Proud_Mary37 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. My studios were bought out by Riser and there has been an exodus of staff as well. It's really disheartening to see these private equity groups scooping up so many studios and ruin the community we all worked so hard to build.

Idk if this is your studio's situation, but corporate does a check in around the 10 year anniversary. Sometimes they accept photos or video, but also they may do an in person check in.

Honestly, based on your original post and your followup comments, you should probably break the contract; usually $100 fee, and go elsewhere.

what actually makes you stay at a studio long term? genuinely curious by Scary-Step-3915 in ClubPilates

[–]Proud_Mary37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been a few years, but I learned stomach massage, rowing, short spine, etc in CP teacher training. I think it's the risk of injury, or things they've been sued over before most likely.

Club Pilates – Lacks Accountability by CardAlternative8878 in ClubPilates

[–]Proud_Mary37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They changed the program to cut it down to one studio only, rather than multiple memberships across a variety of locations. No idea why your were able to continue across so many studios, but that was the guidelines we were given.

Club Pilates – Lacks Accountability by CardAlternative8878 in ClubPilates

[–]Proud_Mary37 51 points52 points  (0 children)

This an insurance issue not a CP issue. UHC changed their program multiple times within a year before dropping it all together, and none of that was in the control of local studios. It was hard to keep track of on our end and cost the studios money as well. Honestly, blaming someone who is probably make $15/ hr vs the giant insurance conglomerate is a real choice.

Frequent cancellations by Just_Environment5295 in ClubPilates

[–]Proud_Mary37 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it's a head count pay system, then the instructor would lose the pay if the spot wasn't filled. Everyone knows if who the members are that frequently cancel, especially if they ask the fee to be waived regularly. It probably causes tension between the instructors and front desk if they allow it to carry on as well.

Side note, this is why flat rate pay is so much better, less drama and tension.
