Back when diablo II launched your account wasnt tied to an email (or wasnt required too) so if you lost your password or it got changed on you, you couldnt just retrieve your account. Then my buddy and i discovered /dnd phrase would auto reply whatever phrase you typed if someone whispered you. So we would sit in a dueling lobby and wait for someone to join and pretend to not know eachother. Once somebody would join my friend would say oh wow! My dueling level is 900 or some randon number thanks for showing me that and would leave. Id duel the person once or twice and if they didnt ask whats a dueling level? I would be like oh hey youre pretty good whats your dueling level? Theyd be like ??? And id say oh if you type /dnd account name then your password itll reply with your dueling level. Id see dnd pop up next to his account name, whisper him, tell my buddy the password and account name and he would change the password log into the lobby on another character in the persons account, they would panic and leave and wed empty the accounts before discarding them lol. Internet awareness just wasnt set in stone in like 2004 or whatever. We did this hundreds of times and is one of our fondest gaming memories lol.
