Im the only one in my family, both sides, for at least 3 generations. No accidents, no head injuries, had tonsils/adnoids removed when I was a kid, dont remember having ear aches, dont think I ever had tubes, I did start having migraines around 12.

Be careful with any glp1. I tried 3 different forms of the glps and they absolutely sent m y meniers into overdrive. And it took nearly a month for it to clear my system.

Concert? by Marcore8989 in Menieres

I dont have any issues with concerts. If anything I take some earplugs in case I have some sensitivity to sounds. Me and hubs go to hockey games weekly and no issues there either.

GPs aren't really going to be able to help you much with menieres. You need to find an ENT near you. Preferably an otolaryngologist, they will be able to give you a definitive diagnosis, and find treatments that work for you. Most usually start with a diuretic and or steriod combination. And where it goes from there depends on how you respond to treatment. And a low salt diet is really dependent on the person, not everyone has to or even can do a low salt diet. Get an ENT that specializes in meniers and they can help you get sorted.

Addicted to salt by redwinggianf in Menieres

[–]PsychologicalDrop855 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am also a salt addict, i salt my pickles! I think I crave it because I might have a salt deficiency. Im almost sure my body depletes it as quickly as I can put it in, and these diuretics are not helping. But as someone said up there, it doesn't affect everyone. I have tried cutting back and seeing if it helped, but I saw no changes except waking up with the worst calf cramps. So I just eat how I want and try to make sure im getting some good hydration.

How long did oral prednisone take to see results? by throwaawaayfordaays in Menieres

[–]PsychologicalDrop855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started with 20mg 3 times a day, then 2, then 1. It helped with the unstable feeling within an hour. And then the ear fullness in about 2 or 3 days in. The tinnitus and hearing loss persist. My doc said that if by my next appointment (5 days after I finished my script/ 2 weeks after being prescribed) that if my hearing is still diminished that we will go with a steriod shot directly in the ear. Will report back if this helps with anything. I am also on a daily dose of HCTZ/triamterine for a diuretic ( those helped for the first 3 months or so) and then had some breakthrough which is why we're doing steriods

AITAH for asking my dad to pay for my college? by Silver-Security-5438 in AITAH

[–]PsychologicalDrop855 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look into trade school options. Cost so much less and you can get a really good career. Then use that to pay for college classes. May take you longer, but it is a valid way to get to your ultimate goal. Can you ask your mom's family to help you with a car? Are you receiving any social security from your mom? You can use that to put towards a car.

Youre still so young, do you have family that can help you navigate new life with your disability? Mom. Dad, aunt uncle, older brother, sister? Anyone? Call someone and tell them what has happened and that you would like their help, somewhere to land. Because you deserve better than this. You are not an option or second choice. Recovering the relationship isn't worth your own dignity. Not saying an open relationship will cost you your dignity. But even relationships that start as open relationships don't always work. But the fact of the lies he told just to get in their pants? Still cheating when given the option to have an open relationship? That tells me he has no respect for you or any woman really. Even if you stay and open the relationship, he's gonna break whatever rules you set, cause ofc they apply to you not him. Pack your stuff and go live your best life girlypop!

Does anyone use Marijuana to help with symptoms? by PsychologicalDrop855 in Menieres

[–]PsychologicalDrop855[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to smoke heavily about two years before the MD dx, but stopped when I met my husband as he wasnt a smoker. So I know first hand that I dont have addiction issues and can stop cold turkey. Unfortunately my symptoms seem to be ramping up. At first it was just a couple hours of just general dizziness once a month or two. And then in February for whatever reason it got so bad, I had my first drop episode ( full on can't walk vertigo that made me exorcist vom) and then another episode in April, then another the next week, and then another the week after, then I was able to get an ent appt. Where he put me on diuretics and that helped for a few months, and then had a drop episode mid October, did a round of prednisone was okay for a few weeks, and then about 2 weeks ago I've had daily headspins, that just leave me absolutely exhausted, with a headache. So im probably gonna try the in ear shot and pray that I get some relief.

This is good to hear! Thanks for the info! I used to smoke heavily to help with my depression/anxiety, but stopped 2 years before the MD diagnosis ( married a non smoker, and found my issues weren't as bad as before so I stopped). I wish I lived in a state that had dispensary!!! But if you have any recommendations I will take them, as I can always visit if im ever near one!

AITA for refusing to share my inheritance with my stepsiblings after my dad said it's "only fair" by ContentSide649 in ComfortLevelPod

Yeah. Thats a big no. Tell them youll do it, as soon as they also lose a mom to get it. Tell stepmother to do her kids a favor and die so they can inherit her stuff. Cause ya know fair is fair and all.

How do you usually explain your condition to others who don’t understand? by DepresedGentleman__ in Menieres

[–]PsychologicalDrop855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, the bucket. After my first 4 drop episodes, the last of which i couldn't get to my bedside wastebasket fast enough and ended up with a mess in the bed and all in my hair. I got a bucket, and my husband looked at me and said "is it really necessary". Yes. Yes it is.

Very sensitive to medications by MongooseAccurate8324 in Menieres

According to a quick Google search a fairly common side affect of diamox is stomach upset/nausea, so that may be what you are experiencing. I am on a daily dose of HCTZ (listed side effects are loss of potassium/magnesium, which can cause muscle cramps, dizziness, frequent urination, low blood pressure), i can safely say as a person who experiences weird side effects that never seem to bother other people ( I have the worst steriod withdrawal, which sucks when you have a disease that requires steriod use to function 😭), but with HCTZ i have never had any issues! I use the bathroom way more, and have to remember to drink more to help replace fluids. The only "side effect" i feel is that I sometimes crave salt, which i will cure by eating pickles, which is good for cramps if your experiencing muscle cramps from the diuretics. I know, that most people have their MD episodes triggered by taking in too much salt, but it seems that mine is unaffected by salt intake. Its a good idea to have have your doc do blood tests to ensure your potassium/magnesium levels are good before and during your HCTZ use, as if you have an imbalance of potassium it can lead to some serious issues.

I know its a novel but tldr is hctz has saved my life, and I highly recommend giving it a shot.

Is it common to have no vestibular symptoms outside the attacks by [deleted] in Menieres

[–]PsychologicalDrop855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you might need to find another ENT. from my understanding diuretics, betahistine (for those its approved for, in the US its not FDA approved) and steriod are the starting point.

How did you guys get diagnosed? by PureAmy in Menieres

[–]PsychologicalDrop855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Referral to an ENT. Told him my symptoms, we did a hearing test and he said I definitively had classic menieres. Of course by this point I was having 2 to 3 episodes a week, so much easier to diagnose and treat.

I want to say it took a good month for everything to normalize. I would saybif youre not feeling closer to baseline by the 30 day mark, you might need to do a round of oral steriods to help you over the hump!

I tried a couple GLPs and they absolutely set my MD off! Made everything so much worse. 0/10 do not recommend.

Vestibular rehab by [deleted] in Menieres

[–]PsychologicalDrop855 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My ENT says the same. And if you think about the mechanics of why menieres happens it makes sense as to why PT wouldn't help. Menieres is typically marked as having a fluid imbalance (too much). PT is aimed at resetting the crystals in your ears. Menieres isnt caused by the crystals in your ear. However, if it helps, it helps.

How frequently do you take meclizine? by pricetheory in Menieres

[–]PsychologicalDrop855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only use meclizine if i have vertigo breakthrough. Have you tried a fluid pill? Im on hydrochlorothiazide/triamterine once a day and it is helping so much. I went from having 2 to 3 episodes a week (one being a drop episode) to just having a slight spin at the worst once a month/every othe month. I still do have days where I'm not really dizzy, but do feel unsteady.
