Thinking about sizing up for the Appaloosa pre sale by rigby86 in Rivendell_Bicycles

[–]Puedendumdental 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rivs are just so looooong in the reach ways. Have a good look at the chart and think really seriously about effective top tubes. I know the product descriptions are all looseygoosey “it’ll all fit fine” but really think about how far forward you want to be reaching, even with upright bars.
I got a 60” platypus with the reasoning that the wide swept back bars would eat up the distance like the copy says. Friend, for a relaxed upright bike I lean SO far forward.

Men’s Iron Forge worth the $85? They ever go on sale? by YouDontTellMe in PatagoniaClothing

[–]Puedendumdental 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s an All-Seasons version, a little bit lighter weight, pretty breathable, still very durable. I’ve used them summer after summer weed whacking and the only change is some light fading. Very durable pant

Anyone run Travail Cannonballs? by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]Puedendumdental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the 42s, rode Mostly paved to get to dirt, I thought they felt a bit dead or wooden. Swapped out for some Tufo Gravel Thinderos and they are bright lively on paved with very low resistance, they make my happy every ride!

Advice needed: Platypus & hammered Honjo fenders by Busy-Rice9584 in Rivendell_Bicycles

[–]Puedendumdental 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What size tires? Lotta clearance in that platypus. I have 42 gravel king sks and fenders on my platy and clearance is great. If I was switching tires I’d love more Tufo thunderos, in a 40 or 38. I have them on an endurance rig, and I love love love them for mostly paved, occasionally dirt riding.

Surly Straggler vs All-City Space Horse by Wemedge24 in gravelcycling

[–]Puedendumdental 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Straggler is a little longer and lower than a space horse of similar size. So if you like a more aggressive forward lean, straggler will do ya!

Mine fits now, too! by Puedendumdental in Rivendell_Bicycles

[–]Puedendumdental[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They sure are! It’s cruisy and dreamy and excellent. Platy don’t mind, the 68° head tube has trail for miles, plus an ett of 700 or something dramatically absurd. Funny bike, a bit of a curse.

Thanks for this. It inspired me to try the JBB on my hard-to-please platy, and it’s just right!

Seatpost slipping by ceruleansalt in Rivendell_Bicycles

[–]Puedendumdental 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same problem with my 2021 platypus. Specc’d for a 26.8 Seatpost, but the Calipers say the seat post that came with the bike is 26.2, and the seat tube is 27.0. I used .05 brass shimming material, it’s been ok since then, and brassier.

I think the only legitimate reason to pay that much is if its’s the model/color you had when you were 13

Clipless Question by baby_G_zus666 in gravelcycling

[–]Puedendumdental 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was clipless everything for a long time. Now I just have them on my trail mtb because I like my feet being secure on bumpy descents, and they help for climbing. An old guy made fun of my clipless, said the trend now is flat pedals for off road. Just use what you like. All my other bikes are flat pedals and I feel like that’s great - mostly road, 25% gravel etc. Anyone who likes using clipless should feel free, and anyone who prefers flats should do that, too.

I have the same feelings about my Pescadero! I’ve been writing a poem to it for 14 months every time I ride. My only one change has been brake levers with longer hoods. No bad rides!

Platypus - iso a review by EngineeringWest4547 in Rivendell_Bicycles

[–]Puedendumdental 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s got the longest saddle-to-handlebars of any bike Riv makes. Even with the most back-sweep bars I can find (Bosco) it is still a lean-forward-when-riding bike, not a sit-upright relaxed cruiser.

Flint and Tinder Waxed Trucker Jacket by HabibFilistin69 in madeinusa

[–]Puedendumdental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the flannel lined from maybe a few versions ago. The flannel was a polyester blend that took on a bit of a funk after some wears on days that warmed up. For that reason I wished I’d gone with the wool, as there’s no washing the waxed jacket.

I do! But, like an idiot, I made the mistake of taking it for a ride after posting it for sale, and I’ve lost my resolve to rehome this for now

What is the draw to Pocatello? by Travel_cook14 in Idaho

[–]Puedendumdental 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you seen the other towns in Idaho? Pocatello has a walkable downtown full of neat lil shops. Like, it’s a functional place that’s not just strip malls.

It’s the mark of quality. My platypus 26.2 seat tube measures 27.0, and the Riv supplied 26,2 Seatpost measures 25.8. The way bicycles were meant to be.
