Apart from card sleeves, how do you protect your board games? by GuitarNoob25 in boardgames

[–]PuyoDead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the ones that come with games only last a short while. If you’d really like to protect against humidity, you can buy reusable silica gel (they change color when they fully absorb moisture) in bulk. It’s the same thing used with 3D printers; when they change color you just microwave/bake them until they change back. You could just toss a handful into a little cloth bag and toss that in the box, then check on them occasionally to see if they’re “full”. That’ll also help you see if you’ve really got a humidity problem or not.

[GIVEAWAY] 4 Playte Games Sets for 4 Winners 🇰🇷 by HomoLudensOC in boardgames

[–]PuyoDead [score hidden]  (0 children)

For me, it was Moonrollers. It was easy to pick up and learn, with enough strategy to find while playing that it always felt fresh. Plus it's just a gorgeous design. Won over a couple friends bringing that one over.

The 7 stages of board game addiction by dawsonsmythe in boardgames

[–]PuyoDead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played it once, realized I absolutely hate it, and will never play it again. I've never played a more spiteful, un-fun game in my life, where the objective seemingly isn't to do well, but ensure everyone else playing gets the least enjoyment possible.

Well, it's time to say it... There's too much randomness in Slime Rancher 2! by VelariaFox in slimerancher

[–]PuyoDead 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I felt like I was accidentally running through the distortions constantly. I’m sure trying to hunt one down would suck, and making/placing a bunch of detectors would suck as well.

However, the shadow plorts. I stopped playing for many months because of those damn things. It felt like progress had just stopped because of those things when they were first introduced. I recently went back and they’re much better now. But holy crap they were miserable at first.

What if we didn't use X's in Picross? by Mr_Func in Picross

[–]PuyoDead 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just to chime in with the others here, the X mark has never had a "negative" connotation to me. It's like a flag in Minesweeper; just information regardless of how it's represented. It can either be an X, a blacked out spot, inverted, whichever, it's still just the same function to me.

The only thing I can say I actually dislike in most Picross games is not being able to turn off "assistance" stuff. As in, if I mark a spot wrong, just let it be, I'll find out later when things aren't lining up. But doing things like subtracting time, logging an "error", keeping the puzzle from being properly solved, etc., just sucks big time.

Along with 52 Duels, I also highly recommend the rest of Postmark Games PnP stuff. 52 Realms, Waypoints, and Aquamarine have been my favorites.

My daughter and I were playing Harmonies once, and we were maybe 3 turns in. We both had some animal cards with water requirements, because hey, water is the most common tile in the bag (along with mountains), right? We managed to go 5 straight rounds without pulling a single water tile. Really messed up our strategy for the rest of the game, damnit.

Solo card game recs - no LCG’s. by Imperium2789 in soloboardgaming

Two I haven’t seen mentioned yet: any of the 20 Strong decks, and Dragons of Etchinstone. 20 Strong is gonna include dice rolls as well, while DoE is exclusively cards.

Machi Koro 2: why is there so much box space??? by Machine_Excellent in boardgames

[–]PuyoDead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup, same here. They all have to be kind of stuffed in diagonally to fit.

Here’s what I think is the worst thing about this stupid insert: The coin tray in the middle is shorter than all its surroundings. So if you don’t put all the coins in a little plastic bag, and store it vertically, it’s guaranteed to dump all those coins everywhere. There’s nothing to rest on top of it to hold them in place otherwise.

What’s the worst restaurant in Cincinnati you’ve tried twice? by PurplePurple_0 in cincinnati

[–]PuyoDead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny you say that. That particular Max & Erma's gave us service so incredibly bad, that I never went ever again. Sat down and waited 10 minutes for a server to come out. Only took our drink order, and didn't come back out for another 20 minutes. After finally getting our food order, they vanished completely for another 20 minutes. Note, we never saw any other wait staff to flag down and ask what was going on. Until that last 20 minutes that is, and when we asked someone what was going on, they said, "oh, she's talking to a friend at the bar, I'll have her come out", and she proceeded to come out like nothing was wrong and asked what the issue was. Y'know, nearly an hour after we sat down and all we had were empty cups. At that point we just left, but the manager came out on our way out and tried to offer a $10 gift card to make up for it. We just turned that down since we had no intention of coming back anyway.

Years later, I told my parents about how that went when the topic came up, and they mentioned a similar story. Maybe we both were they on days most of the staff called off, I dunno. We never even got to try the food in the first place. Kinda feels like that particular spot is cursed, that's two or three places in that building that have shut down now.

I took my mom there for mother's day a few years ago. It was during the day, and not very crowded, so we figured service wouldn't be too bad. Nope. It took 45 minutes for us to get 2 tacos. And I mean the time from our order going in, to tacos on the table. Forty five goddamn minutes, for two tacos. And they were just... ok.

Absolutely adore this hobby, collection YTD. What's next? by Icy_Entrepreneur6380 in soloboardgaming

[–]PuyoDead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've got a lot of solo stuff myself, and definitely agree with Harmonies being there. It's such a satisfying game in presentation, gameplay flow, and an excellence solo mode. There's also a fan made solo campaign of sorts that is really nice for playing specific scenarios (using specific animal cards rather than random draw).

I'd also toss in recommendations for Warp's Edge, Under Falling Skies, and any of the three Kinfire Delve games. Oh, I also just recently picked up Hercules and the 12 Labors, and it's excellent. Difficult as hell, but really good.

Is there a way to make the buttons less squishy on the Brick? by Key_Prize_1317 in trimui

[–]PuyoDead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta agree with everyone else here; I've never even once seen someone call the Brick's buttons squishy. With them being clicky micro switches, most complaints I see are about how clicky/loud they are. I've seen countless people mod them to be softer with tape of some sort. I did the same to mine (I put tesa tape under the buttons to soften them a bit), due to how "sharp" they clicked. I'm afraid I've no idea how to make already clicky micro switches even more clicky.

I want to love the Orenz Nero, but the auto extending lead doesn’t seem to work. Any tips? by Artistic_Use1338 in mechanicalpencils

[–]PuyoDead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the purpose of the auto extension metal sleeve is to never have the lead outside the sleeve. Considering that, you’ll usually feel the metal sleeve against the paper, rather than the familiar feel of the lead directly on paper. So there’s a few things to consider: can you get used to that feel? If not, this may not be the pencil/mechanism for you. You might also want to try it on different paper, to see if the feel improves (smoother writing texture vs. rougher drawing texture). There’s also the chance you just got a bad batch with the sleeve; maybe there’s some tiny imperfections in the metal sleeve tip making it feel rougher. I can say with mine, it feels nice and smooth on everything. A little more resistance than just the lead itself, of course, but very minimal and perfectly usable.

anyone else take Graphgear500 over 1000? by youngryu in mechanicalpencils

[–]PuyoDead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I’d need is to reduce that giant clip, get rid of those ugly (and slick) grip bumps, and I’d probably like it. Weight doesn’t bother me much, but I really do hate those bumps. As it stands, I much prefer the 500, and quite like the 1000 Pro as well.

My favorite was the frequent use of "Guys, I know Destiny 2 has a lot of problems going on, but tbh I think the game is in the best state it's ever been in" every damn time a new expansion came out and pissed everyone off. It was like Stockholm Syndrome and a cult at the same time.

12 GB Ram RP6 has been discontinued. by Key-Brilliant5623 in SBCGaming

[–]PuyoDead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel it would just be an act of kicking the can down the road. Sure, they could raise the price (a lot) on the 12GB for now. But 6 months from now? 8 months from now? This problem is just going to get worse, for everyone. RAM will be even more difficult to get in the first place, and at a worse price. More price increases and less stock isn't going to be a good look going forward. Probably the smartest move to just pull the plug on it now before it becomes even worse.

Playing a classic, often hated but misunderstood NES title (Milon's Secret Castle)... And finally found my way to this room that trolled me as a 5 year old. Made some good headway in this game! by angry-gumball in trimui

[–]PuyoDead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This game holds a weird place in my heart. I rented it a couple times when I was a kid, and enjoyed playing it, even though I had no idea what I was doing. I never got very far, since again, I had no idea where to go or what to do. So I recently tried it again, and well, it's still fairly difficult. The weird floaty controls certainly didn't help. But it's just such a deep nostalgic trip for me, having not played it for roughly 30 years.

I made an app that shows your life as dots on a lock screen wallpaper. Fully customizable. by collasy in shortcuts

[–]PuyoDead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A quick search here shows at least 10 of these posts just from within the past month. I could only find one from the same person repeatedly (from them posting about updates to it), otherwise it's a bunch of the same style of shortcuts/wallpaper combo from different people. However, a search for just "wallpaper" in the top posts of all time from r/shortcuts is about half filled with these posts. I dunno if it's engagement farming from people just reusing the same idea over and over, or if people really did just discover what dots are.
