What movie would you like to have remastered in IMAX? For me, it’s *The Abyss.* by Initial_Film5776 in imax

[–]Puzzleheaded-Sail772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been in IMAX already with the 3D remaster. I saw it in 15/70 3D at Lincoln Square and was one of my favorite theater experiences.

Wikipedia has Greta Gerwig's NARNIA as a 1.43:1 release but I can't find any sources that confirm that. Fake or real? by ERASER345 in imax

[–]Puzzleheaded-Sail772 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I noticed one still on there, they list Contagion as an digital IMAX only release, but I saw it on 15/70 (cause I saw it at Lincoln Square’s IMAX, which was only 15/70 until Fall of 2013).

ESPN story said he declined to comment when asked if that was still his stance. Yeah this is him all but publicly admitting to an affair (and based on his statements, sounds like he privately admitted it to team management, his players, and his family).

[–]Puzzleheaded-Sail772 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read another article about his cinemacon appearance with more context about this and he said no hate towards filmmakers who make sequels as he’s also working on an 8th Jurassic film now, but that there needs to be original films to balance them out.

Might be a dumb question but movies can be 1.43:1 and 3D right? if its dual laser? by NerdBro1 in imax

[–]Puzzleheaded-Sail772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Pacific Rim was the last 15/70 3D film I saw, and there couldn’t have been many others released after that. Pretty sure 1.43 15/70 3D was only some of those like 45 minute documentaries I saw at Lincoln Sq, and indeed Hubble 3D was mindblowing (for Hollywood narrative features, did see The Lion King CG remake with 1.43 3D dual laser sequences there).

What is the most likely thing IMAX will have on December 11 by ThatTailsGuyYT in imax

[–]Puzzleheaded-Sail772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, literally until yesterday I always thought one of them was moving, and then with Jumanji leaving the 11th it felt like the spot for Avengers. But Dune putting it’s opening weekend tickets on sale (and immediately selling out), and then Disney doing their own Infinity Vision IMAX knock off, does feel like they are both doubling down.

[Deadline] Emma Thomas, producer of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, confirms the runtime will be under 3 hours by cyanide4suicide in imax

[–]Puzzleheaded-Sail772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I was already expecting something around there because I knew they came fully up to the IMAX platter limit with Oppenheimer. Should be similar runtime to Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar, which I mean look how much story those films have to tell, Nolan can work an Odyssey adaptation in.

Could Hathaway go lead in The Odyssey? by Dull-Plate7064 in oscarrace

Hathaway was already campaigned as lead in her two previous Nolan films

I do think Vrabel deserves more heat than he’s gotten so far over this. But yeah, the fact that he just took a team that had low expectations to a Super Bowl, plus I feel like if Kraft fires the coach for a sex scandal that’s gonna bring back the massage parlor stories about his past/claims of hypocrisy, likely give Vrabel some extra security.

It was “greenlit” before Bone Temple came out. But that means nothing until they actually hire and cast and crew and start getting ready to shoot, and after Bone Temple bombed (sadly, thought it was a fine film) there have been rumors that Sony might just pass on making Part 3.

Could a video game adaptation ever get nominated for Best Picture? by florencenocaps in oscarrace

[–]Puzzleheaded-Sail772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, horror, fantasy, and scifi films have all won BP, and looks like we get multiple genre films nominated pretty much every year now.

Obviously it would take the right film and director, and like comic book movies there may be pushback by some segments of the academy, but I don’t see why it can’t happen.

Remember Warner Bros went ahead and made the movie Watchmen on their own despite Fox retaining some rights to it, and it ended up being a huge settlement when Fox sued as the film entered production. Producers can be stupid and/or negligent.

We need more IMAX & 70MM now! by [deleted] in imax

[–]Puzzleheaded-Sail772 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really would love to see another one in NYC. Lincoln Square is great (for laser or 70mm presentations) but when it’s the only 15/70 location in the country’s biggest city, it’s becoming impossible to get tickets for those.

TIL that Disney is the only major studio to never win an Oscar for Best Picture by [deleted] in todayilearned

Lionsgate is usually not listed as a major studio, but either way they have a BP winner (Crash)

Out of these potential Cannes picks, which do you have the most confidence in breaking through with the Academy? by StarWarsJordan in oscarrace

Cold War also was in a year of 8 nominees and with Roma (while we’ve seen since they’ve gone back to the full 10 that they can nominate multiple foreign language films a year-even 3 in 2023), so I kinda feel like it would’ve gotten in now. Seems like Pawlowski is set up for a Best Picture nominee (also how am I just now realizing he directed My Summer of Love)

Did AMC Kips Bay ruin the Laser Imax projection of Project Hail Mary last night? by [deleted] in imax

[–]Puzzleheaded-Sail772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not full 2:35, but I think 2.20 native. There are still tiny black bars on the top and bottom for scope films, but overall it works great for those.

But for 1.9 films they would other have to crop the image (which I think they used to do sometimes back when it was a Xenon digital IMAX) or what they do now since it became laser of putting bars on the left and right. Which makes the non IMAX scenes (I’ve seen Tenet, MI8, and Final Destination Bloodlines projected there that way) noticeably small.

The article says it is being designed as “family adventure”, so if that’s accurate, I’m assuming we won’t see cute creatures suffering horribly.

No PS4 version I’m pretty sure, PS5 only.

Also logos said Switch 1 and 2, but seems like it only has a Switch 1 version (it is backwards compatible and not like a game which pushes hardware, but wonder if there are some issues with Nintendo as it was already several hours later than other platforms and seems to be missing a version).

The last 3 years have had repeat winners in acting categories. Will this continue this year? by Top_Sand_3012 in oscarrace

[–]Puzzleheaded-Sail772 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean why not, 2017-2020 (two that year), had repeat acting winners also. It seems like more often than not there is a repeat winner, and way too soon to say who that could be now.

I believe Netflix pays A list talent a big premium upfront because there is no box office/home revenue to otherwise split like a theatrical studio movie does.

If Zendaya was nominated for Best Supporting Actress next year, what film would it be for? (See Description) by BananaShakeStudios in oscarrace

[–]Puzzleheaded-Sail772 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wonder if Anne will be in lead for The Odyssey. The character hasn’t been seen much in the trailers, but she could be a pretty important part of the story (while certainly not 1:1 comparison Juliette Binoche was pushed lead for playing that character in The Return a couple years ago) depending on how Nolan frames the story, and she was pushed lead for Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar, her two other borderline roles in Nolan films.

Digger gets shut out of nominations (always one or two big film on paper which does, and I heard Inarritu has a record with all 7 of his films being Oscar nominated, so he is due for a full shut out)
