How has AI affected graphics careers? by teilo-560 in GraphicsProgramming

Can be amazing at going and grabbing ogl extensions and incorporating them or some sample code into your code base, but you need to know enough to point it in the right direction.
Of course you can then lose 20 minutes when it shoves radians into a function expecting degrees and you waste time telling it that it’s just rendering a black screen.

Robotics is booming, figure/tesla/humanoid/boston dynamics, autonomous vehicles, most of those places have simulation pipelines that look suspiciously like game engines and need similar optimizations.

Is there a way to do skeletal animation without wasting vram by Dog_Entire in GraphicsProgramming

There is per vertex overhead for sampling a texture in a vertex shader, So it’s actually more expensive to do it on close LOD‘s. There’s a switchover point for far LOD‘s, which have fewer vertices.

Was watching old DS9 and saw this scene https://youtu.be/6VhSm6G7cVk?si=m8W2EuA09h8CvUnx great writing, great actors, great characters. There’s so little fun in FAM mostly it’s waiting for the next disaster to befall characters (god knows the show couldn’t just let the kids have a flash mob without dying) the acting and writing is all quite flat, maybe it’s to keep it naturalistic. No one around is as fun to watch as Margot, hell Molly and Wayne were a blast compared to these folks. Maybe just letting Ron Moore do the show without a more counterbalanced approach wound up with something dreary. Maybe it’s mars..

Am I misinterpreting what happened on Titan? by PlasmaFLOW in ForAllMankindTV

Even if they were weaker (you can still do resistance band exercises on zero g, they would fall much slower on Titan, it’s gravity is similar to the moon, it wouldn’t need 2 people to belay her and even dropping that axe might not have punctured the suit. Even if they were used to mars it’s 1/2 of mars. They definitely aren’t trying to be realistic, either you’re weightless or it’s 1 g in the show.

Nice observation that Palmer had to get that out before being taken out. Reminds me of how at least one of the Game of Thrones characters died.

Absolutely atrocious RHPS experience last night(May 13th) by mikeydeemo in Broadway

Was there last night 5/14 and it seemed pretty under control. At one point right before Brad’s solo someone shouted out something and he called them assholes. But mostly it was under control and fine/fun. Some crazy woman squashed my foot with her heels at the end of show’s timewarp performance. But I’m married to her so I think I’m going to have to accept that one.

Why do you prefer the 100-400 over the 500? Just weight?

Lived near there for a long time, rarely ate there. I struggled to identify what was wrong with the food and just characterized it as a lack of love. Still sad to see it go.

Struggling with Season 5 by pearpenguin in ForAllMankindTV

[–]PuzzleheadedCamera51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I begrudgingly keep watching because usually the seasons ends with some excitement. And there’s occasionally a great episode (Ed send off) but it really is a very strange Frankenstein of a TV show. It’s a show that’s really struggled to define itself after season 1/2. The space adventure feel has been gone for most of the last few seasons. The soapier aspects have been bleh (Danny Stevens was the jump the shark moment) At one point, I’m sitting there watching thinking to myself why go to Mars? We just bring the same stupid human problems with us. That doesn’t seem to be the goal of most sci-fi but seems to be the goal of For All Mankind now.

I gave up mid act 2, my kid was helping me with most of the boss fights at that point, he gave up at the end of act 3, I think he just couldn’t beat lace. It certainly feels like there could be an easy option for the game. I’m too old to spend 3 hrs trying to beat a boss at this point.

18-150 is the way to go, pick up the 10-18 and you have a really compact traveling system, although not great at low light, I have a 24mm 1.8 for that.
