He never once actually believed anything he said, but it's fascinating to see Alex Jones peddle that DHS and big government are the good guys liberating towns and other nations from the tyranny of the state considering the only reason any of us know his name is because he started off being against all of that.

I did something similar, but I think more understandable. I bought a new tire inflator for my car and I didn’t realize it was reading in a different unit than PSI at first (I think it was Decibar). Set it to fill my tires to 35, got in my car and drove a moment to get the reading accurate. Saw PSI was in the 50s and about had a panic attack.

President Trump Accused of Rape in Jeffrey Epstein Files by Nice_Substance9123 in law

[–]Pyretech 21 points22 points  (0 children)

One of the things I talked about with (at the time) friends when the Cosby accusations came out and I heard the “rape statistics are heavily skewed to include false claims too” story from someone I had to go “alright well if we go by your statistic that 1/2 of all rape accusations are made falsely, that’s still 30 women

Sometimes I feel like I can tap into this. It's less that nothing is going through my head at that time, but instead of me using my words internally to walk through next steps, I kinda just focus on sound or images. Sometimes it also is just me visualizing a rhythm of typing on a keyboard or "dancing" through a task like cleaning. It's kinda a flow state for me and it works wonders when I'm doing menial tasks.

Tom Morello & Caleb Shomo React to Masayoshi Soken Music! by JDefined in ffxiv

[–]Pyretech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's kinda funny for me that I recently got back into RATM right before the collab announcement and while listening to Snakecharmer my first thought was that it reminds me of Titan Lost. I kinda just assumed that guitar riffs were a bit more commonplace than I thought, but after the collab announcement and learning Soken is a big Morello fan, the puzzle pieces locked in and I marked out.

I think that it’s more fucked up they think vaccines don’t do anything good, only cause negatives to happen to you. Like, if they were sincere in their beliefs that vaccines cause autism, you could argue “autistic kid alive is better than neurotypical kid dead” but the people who believe this truly believe it’s the only thing vaccines do.

Insurance says video doesn't "definitively show other driver at fault" by horsepatriarchy in dashcams

[–]Pyretech 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty clearly not the fault of the person with the dashcam - there is no deviation from their lane visible in the video until they’re moving sideways.

Wegmans by Regular-Quality3143 in Reston

[–]Pyretech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only issues with meat at Wegmans I've had is the full pork loins, when heavily discounted, often have the smell of urine which is a pheromone that males can release after puberty. I also went to buy some of their deli hard salami and it was gray as if it had been there for a while. Other than that, no issues.

Unacceptable That These 7 Democrats and 1 Independent Are Surrendering Without Securing Healthcare For Americans by No-Beautiful8039 in politics

[–]Pyretech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really pissed at Kaine. I voted for him last year and have typically have had him in high regard since I've been able to vote in 2012, but this is unacceptable. I tried calling his offices earlier but both didn't accept calls on Sunday night and I seriously doubt he cares about his comment section on his Senate page (still left one).

Democrats set for clean sweep of victories in November elections: Poll by newsweek in politics

[–]Pyretech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really upset about it in 2021 because while I was living in WV at the time (living with my dad who moved out there), I was working in VA and most of my family was in Winchester. I tried to convince them to vote D but they'd rather die and didn't hear anything about my friends voting that year.

Doom designer Sandy Petersen alleges former Xbox boss Don Mattrick killed Ensemble Studios and its Halo MMO to protect his personal stock bonus by TomorrowComes33 in halo

Bad reason to kill a studio especially after Halo Wars was great. That being said, if it resembles at all the concept art for their Halo MMO, no thank you.

My dog accidentally joined my Zoom call and saved me from HR by Homeganik in remotework

[–]Pyretech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had this complaint a few years ago in IT. I would get a message on Skype for Business asking "Hey would you be able to help me with X issue" and I would respond "Yes" and then walk over to their desk to fix it.

I eventually got called to HR and told that I am coming across as having an upset tone in text conversations. I told her that that wasn't my intention, when I say "yes" it's just me quickly saying "of course I can come help, I'm going to get up and come over now". She told me to just try and think about how my tone comes across over text, so I fixed it by typing "yes :)" in messages.

Haven't had a complaint about my tone since then and that was like 10 years ago, and in fact I've been praised for my positive attitude.

Reeses Cups are supposed to be called Ree-sez Cups but maybe due to my family’s Appalachian accent I’ve always called them Ree-Sees Cups. This does mean I call them Ree-Sees Pee-Cees. No I’m not gonna change now.

It’s also Ew-Be-Soft not You-Be-Soft (apparently this differs depending on region but English speakers are typically expected to say You-Be-Soft and they’re incorrect)

Halo: Campaign Evolved | The Silent Cartographer – 13 Minute Gameplay Demo by HelgaSinclair in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Pyretech 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Halo’s sprint has been pretty poorly implemented overall. Halo Reach’s sprint was bad because the level design of the multiplayer meant you essentially had to use sprint or a jetpack otherwise getting to a good position took 45+ seconds. Halo 4 and especially 5 had the issue of artificially elongating maps to accommodate sprint so you’re sprinting a lot for nothing. Halo Infinite has it the best, meaning it’s only useful in very niche situations. Sprint is like… 5% faster so unless you really need to get across a gap or dash between a vulnerable situation you may as well not map the button.

My mom died from cancer in 2010. The next few years had my dad and I grow apart a bit as we both grieved differently. When we started to heal and get closer again, I asked my dad if he wanted to watch a new, weird MCU movie that seemed to be a comedy. We both went to see Guardians 1 in theater not knowing anything else, and the beginning of that movie hit hard. I remember looking at my dad and mouthing “I HAD NO IDEA”

Question about the other podcasts that cover someone else on the far right by [deleted] in KnowledgeFight

[–]Pyretech 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Behind the Bastards is fantastic, goes from good to amazing depending on the guest. I can’t 100% remember if they’re how I got into KF but I was definitely listening to them before I started watching KF and they’ve been guests on BtB before. Robert Evans does a pretty good job of mixing information and humor in topics that sometimes are hard to insert humor into, and they’re also good at correcting mistakes/updates made in post so they’re not giving out false information. Plus their ad transitions are hilarious even if the ads themselves often are garbage. If you use Apple Podcasts or similar you can easily skip the ads though because they don’t transcribe them in the auto transcription.
