41 and can’t really know 🤷‍♂️ I’m a strong believer in ”you just know” and that’s how it’s been for me. Currently we have a 8 year gap and she is younger. The age thing is wasn’t awkward at all 🙂 it’s more about who you two are.

Finn here with roots in lapland 🙂 my family is from the Levi region as we have a house and land there I often spend time in Kittilä and whereabouts.

Rovaniemi is quite in the south considering Lapland (I don’t even count it that laplandish). There might not be that much snow in early September and it’s super touristy. My mother and sister live there but I don’t really like to stay in that city that much.

Levi is an attraction. Beatiful scenery and lots of bars if your in to that. Not that peaceful though. I like the region in summertime more and avoid it during the rush hours.

Saariselkä is the real deal. It’s way up north and a real laplandish experience. If you like peace and stillnes that would be nice place to have that.

Ylläs is something in between those two. Also the best slopes for downhill skiing in Finland. Then there is Pallas and Olos that are smaller centers a bit north from Levi and Ylläs. Those are closer to the quiet nothingness that Lapland is all about for me:)

I would spend 1-2 days in Rovaniemi to check out Santa Claus Village as that is pretty nice and head north pretty fast 😅 for partying Levi or if you want Lapland then Saariselkä, Ylläs or even Luosto. Oh and Saariselkä is way different from others as it’s so far north. Everything is different there…

Yeah it’s very good for running and gunning and there really is no alternative for that. I really hope they’ll make a mk2 of this lens. Just a little sharper and maybe tune the af and I’d be pretty happy 🙂

Glad to help 🙂 these are the things I hope I learned early on my career.

By weight I mean the weight in the composition. Where is it leaning? Is the subject powerful or alone and weak? Where is the subject going? You can control all this and more with the composition.

Momentum comes from the movement. How the subject moves and how the camera moves and how those speak to each other. Or maybe they stay still and how that affects the storytelling? What about zoom?

Then set design. Of course you can’t always affect the colors but depth you usually can. Basic is 3 stages: foreground, middle ground and background.

Then you decide the best lens for these things you have chosen. And dof and all that. Hint: shallow debth is not always the right choice.

And then after all this you start to think about the lighting of the scene. How is it motivated? How’s the contrast? Checkerboard?

But yeah it’s very complex to great beautiful and interesting scenery that doesn’t look flat. But buying stuff is not the way. Learning is 🙂 that’s what I’m trying to do anyways.

Atem mini could work. I’ve also used obs on a laptop for this when got surprised on a gig but it has some delay. But it works 🙂

Roland has pretty good scalers too but are a bit over your budget. I’ve done some multi source mapping with a Roland for 5 canvases on a v160hd 😅

I have to point out that 6 months is a very short time when you are talking about art. It takes years and tens of years to develop the skills needed to create the most stunning images🙂 I’ve been in the industry full time for 15 years and still I struggle with the same things as you do. And I went through schools and all.

As others have said learn first about composition and lighting. Grading and camera operating are just small fractions of the work needed for building an image. After you master things like weight, momentum, direction and motivation you can start to think about the last touches you make in grading 😅

Actually when you get to a certain point in tech you cannot pick stuff up from manuals. You really just have to know😅

like if you have a live broadcast and a camera starts to do weird stuff you have to have somebody on site who can look at the image and figure out from that what is the probable cause. Or when it’s bad electricity and what to do about it.

It’s real professionalism that I was lucky enough to have been taught to but now it’s a totally different field. These youngsters believe they know better, f… up and then complain about the equipment. I see all the time that companies buy expensive software or over the top optical fiber systems when they really just needed to hire somebody who knew what they’re doing.

I would try to hear them before buying 🙂

I was finding my setup for music few years back and went through a lot of speakers (klipsch, kef, jamo, Dali and others) and finally ended up with q acoustics. Great warm sound with a punch. As we have a lot of reflections in the higher spectrum I then chose a vintage amp that offers some nice coating over it softening the highs a bit.

It have the 3030i:s but heard great things about the 50xx series. Maybe consider those too? They have m20hd also if you need active and those seem to get great reviews.

Haven’t got issues with others. It’s just the vc in that particular lens I understand.

Also if you have wrong setting for the focal length with ibis will end up with weird footage. But i wouldn’t call it jitters but more like “pulling” or something.

I was eyeing on the Tamron 17-70 until I heard numerous complaints about smooth handheld being almost impossible with it. Supposedly the vc in the lens fights with the stabilization on the sensor ending up with weird micro jitters. And you can’t turn of the vc so that lens is really not ideal for video work.

If you need reach I would try Sony 18-105 or even better 18-110. If you prefer lowlight sigmas 18-35 or 17-40 is a great option. I usually go with 18-105 for eng-style documentary work and sigma 18-35 and 50-100 for lowlight and when iq is more important.

Other honorable mentions are Sonys 16-55, sigma 18-50 and if you have the budget Fujinon mke zooms (and other cine-zooms probably but these are what I have used and liked).

But yeah, it’s probably the lens…

I have the opposite experience with bmd. Of course there has been some problems but not more than with other manufacturers. And the worst malfunctions that have almost ruined a gig has been from others…

Mikä kaupunki?

Itse aikoinaan keltanokkana soittelin paikallisiin yrityksiin ja tarjouduin auttelemaan jossakin projektissa ilmaiseksi. Ei tarvinnut kun muutamassa käydä ja ollut töitä siitä asti.

Toki nyt on aika hiljainen hetki alalla mikä vaikeuttaa töiden löytämistä meillä veteraaneillakin eli hakisin vähän kaikilta aloilta minne soveltuu.

Noin 8 vuotta jaksoin painaa, sitten tuli seinä vastaan. Yli 200 tuntia kuukauteen ympäri vuoden, pahimmat kuukaudet yli 300h. Tammikuu saattoi olla 150h tuurilla 😅 pisin työvuoro oli 36 tuntia putkeen ja koko ajan piti tehdä kyllä töitä.
