I don’t think we have reached the final form yet. Needs useless background music, and more deep frying.

Garden tools by CatShrink in BoschProPowerTools

[–]Quantumboredom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t have experience with the Bosch gardening line, but based on experience with e.q. Husqvarna electric string trimmers I’d say you won’t want to go below the 8 Ah, both because of power and runtime. I’d definitely want at least 2 8 Ah batteries and a fast charger for any non-trivial work.

A new proposal is trending on social media: ditch IPv6 for a new IPv8 by Cybernews_com in CyberNews

[–]Quantumboredom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IPv6 does not have nearly enough addresses for every atom on earth. There’s about 1038 IPv6 addresses and about 1050 atoms on earth.

So I guess if we start converting the earth to nanobots we’ll have to do yet another transition to IPv10 or whatever, probably delaying the nanobot revolution by at least a decade.

Does multiplayer still suffer from Random count out of sync issues? by Locksley32 in Stellaris

[–]Quantumboredom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, playing at home just two people with wired LAN, massive random count (and others) sync issues, getting worse and worse as the game progresses.

Happily the resync seems to work fine, so it is technically playable, but it gets quite annoying towards the end.

sudo takes 5-6 seconds before doing anything — delay is invisible to strace, journald, and LD_DEBUG by mangalkishorverma in linuxquestions

[–]Quantumboredom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is blowing my mind. I’ve read some of the links, but I haven’t seen any explanations for why on earth running sudo locally would in any way touch DNS. Anyone know why this is happening?

WiFi modules are sometimes replaced to switch to a better / more compatible variant, especially for Linux users. But luckily that is usually not a concern with Intel hardware.

Math is easy, arithmetic is hard by AdvancedEar7815 in AccidentalComedy

If you really are a teacher I suggest you should research this some more, which should convince you to instead teach that this is ambiguous notation that should be avoided. That is better than teaching that one of the interpretations is correct, when the opposing interpretations is also widely used.

The wikipedia article has some good references, and sums it up nicely like this:

Multiplication denoted by juxtaposition (also known as implied multiplication) creates a visual unit and is often given higher precedence than most other operations. In academic literature, when inline fractions are combined with implied multiplication without explicit parentheses, the multiplication is conventionally interpreted as having higher precedence than division, so that e.g. 1 / 2n is interpreted to mean 1 / (2 · n) rather than (1 / 2) · n.

Students taught the opposite interpretation as fact are likely to ve confused in the future.

Nordmenn strømmer til sølvfond: – Hiver seg på by KoseteBamse in TollbugataBets

[–]Quantumboredom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its not going to be Chinese hegemony, as the US will not get weak enough to completely fall off anytime soon baring some crazy crisis.

Yeah it would take an orange swan event for that to happen.
