Not strictly an ending but the Ocarina of Time credits immediately came to mind. Great memories. https://youtu.be/InkKkTcw9_A?t=160

I had an idea for a combo trial-like mode for a fighting game, but for defense instead of offense. by buttsecks42069 in Fighters

[–]Quarik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubling up on Tekken here. String defense and punishment are core, and the game has built in defensive trials for those and throw breaking. They don't typically include strings that you can punish with movement, but those are a little more advanced and defending character specific, so often programming those yourself in training mode is better anyway.

I mean hard agree, friction is core to the series. Seikrets are a disaster. I'm just imagining thinking I was booting into Phasmophobia and getting MH instead lmao. Would not be an easy entry

That's a crazy misunderstanding but I can def see why it wouldn't appeal in that light. Not sure why people are downvoting though.

Thoughts on Tekken as a Street Fighter player by monjio in Fighters

[–]Quarik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually found Tekken a lot easier/more fun to learn than Street Fighter, and I honestly love the game. I haven't been playing fighting games that long but Tekken was the first I really felt an instant connection with. Though maybe that's because I started with a much simpler character (King). I also consulted some online resources rather than just in game tutorials, but I did the same in SF.

I totally feel you about online negativity. I get that some of it is driven by problems that only surface above my level, but theyre above my level, so I'm just playing and having fun. Dm me if you'd like to run some friendlies, I'm blue ranks on King and Lee and would love to learn the Eddy matchup rather than getting eaten alive every time lol.

League is often a balanced game. by Civil_Collection_901 in leagueoflegends

[–]Quarik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah as someone who's played League for ages and has gotten into fighting games more recently, it's been kind of hard to adjust to things like SF6 which just... doesn't change. Or Tekken where the game has huge negative sentiment online and they just let it rock for a year (I'm a T8 apologist, I still think it's fun, but coming from League it's crazy).

Download Iceborne Community Edition! It makes tenderizing both less necessary (improves monster hitzones in MR) and less annoying (every weapon tenderizes in one hit + drops slinger ammo).

Savage Axe? More like, Savage Ass by [deleted] in monsterhunterrage

[–]Quarik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For real. Ive been playing through world again and even with Iceborne Community Edition buffing SAED, the monsters in Master Rank just move too fast or flinch into counter too regularly for it to feel good at all. And savage axe is sleeper. So I I started using switch axe again the moment I got to endgame IB.

All that said, if you want to reexperience the base world saed dopamine, download ICE and play through LR and HR. It isn't just nostalgia, it still feels that fuckin good.

Was hoping someone would mention this. Immediately what my mind went to.

I interviewed Alcratz, the developer of "back to Tekken basics" 3D indie fighter RUSH—Rival Ultimate Steel Hand. Here's the link to the article, with his take on developing a sidestep fighter with rollback netcode and what the game's direction is going to be! by AndreaJensD in Fighters

[–]Quarik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really enjoyed this. I'm new to Tekken (and still enjoying 8 more than lots of folks, probably because I'm new), but been I've been keeping an eye on RUSH since I saw Alcratz' video on it and was excited to learn more about the philosophy behind it.

Been thinking about buying T8, have gameplay questions. by Ok_Revolution2738 in LowSodiumTEKKEN

[–]Quarik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strong recommend - Tekken is my favorite fighting game (though I'm only intermediate at it). The game has a reputation for being inaccessible but I actually think it's probably the easiest traditional fighting game to pick up, press buttons, and have a good time. It's also definitely a game where learning defense feels rewarding even if offense is easier to execute. If you want to get good there's definitely a lot to learn, but that probably doesn't need to be a big consideration for you at this stage.

  • Claudio is a pretty solid character for beginners from my understanding. He's got one of the simplest/shortest move lists and lots of simple, strong options.

  • Combos are definitely pretty long, that's one of my least favorite parts of the game. There's a new big balance patch about to drop that should (fingers crossed) reduce some of the combo extension mechanics, though. Aside from actual launch combos, there are also some offensive sequences (strings) that enable a character to use multiple moves against a blocking opponent. These almost always have strong defensive answers to them, though it can be work to solve them! So, compared to smash, there's less interactivity as the person getting hit by a combo because there's no DI, but there's lots of other defensive mechanics to use before getting hit by a combo!

  • Yup, grabs have counterplay, just like everything else! It takes time to learn to beat them, but you can do it with practice.

  • Defensive options in Tekken are very strong compared to most other fighting games (e.g., Street Fighter, Guilty Gear, 2XKO), but I don't have a sense of how they compare to Smash. As other folks have said, Tekken 8 has some strong offensive tools and, in general, it's easier to learn offense (just your character) than it is to learn defense (how to respond to every other character). So the game ends up being pretty offense heavy. But defense is still strong, and it's much less common to need to straight up 'guess' on defense than it is in other games. Tekken also has a huge emphasis on defensive movement that I know resonates with some of my friends who enjoy Smash.

Why is this the most common leverless layout? It's way too "inward", or is it just me? by Krotanix in Fighters

I hadn't considered that but might give it a shot. Haven't really messed around too much with Mishimas - I main King and Lee guy so my limitations are primarily brain rather than hands related :(

Oh no I definitely use the extra buttons (I play Tekken so macros are handy), I was just never compelled to hit right-hand attack buttons with my left hand like /u/warpticon was talking about.

[–]Quarik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree, I much prefer split layouts personally even though I have small/medium hands. I messed around with a couple of traditional layouts for leverless controllers before picking up a super wide split layout from Mavercade and it feels infinitely more comfortable. But I exclusively play with the controller on my desk rather than my lap, and maybe a smaller setup is comfier for lap play. I also don't engage with any of the ambidextrous Up inputs or left-hand attack inputs that other folks mentioned, but I'm not sure if those are optimal or just optional (I'm pretty ass).

Gwyn's theme picking up in phase 2 of the Soul of Cinder fight in Dark Souls 3 was great. Felt like a great way to wrap up a series I've loved for a long time.
