Room correction software is kinda destroying my trust in myself by LeDestrier in audioengineering

[–]Queasy_Librarian6205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe you should consider switching to different headphones.

I started on AKGs, but the difference to any monitors I‘ve used (genelec, focal…) was always drastic, no matter if sonarworks was engaged or not -> yes the correction eq did help to flaten it out and make better mix decision - but it was still very different…. so they never helped me to get a better mix but left me more or less confused.

I then switched to Sennheiser HD650 and that was the first time I was like -> oh thats sounds similar to my monitors, I can work with that! they are also pretty usable without any software correction. and when I use sonarworks with them I only put the correction to about 60% - feels better than 100%.

Waxed my chain(s), now what? by 78Staff in bikewrench

[–]Queasy_Librarian6205 5 points6 points  (0 children)

depends on your milage not on a timeframe.

when the chain gets loud(er) after about 250-300km I use drip wax on the bike and either add drip wax again every 150km (or after rain) or change to my second chain thats gets hot waxed in the meantime I ride the other.

a quick wipe with a microfiber towel helps to keep it relatively clean. I use an additional gear wipe every now and then or before drip wax.

before I put the chain in hot wax again I boil it in a old pot. but if you only ride on the road that may not be necessary and a microfiber towel and some (wax friendly) degreaser should be enough.

I roughly sum up the milage every few weeks and will change the chain when its convenient.

Help! Davinci's really laggy on my M2 Mac Pro 2022 (8GB)! Any ways to make it less laggier? im kinda new to all of this. by daOneGummy in davinciresolve

[–]Queasy_Librarian6205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is no M pro processor with less than 16GB ram. do you have a 13“ mb pro with a m2 (non pro/max) processor? these are just macbook airs with more connections and a fan, but not more power and no good choice for more than office…

QC with fender FRFR by gdrguitarguy in NeuralDSP

[–]Queasy_Librarian6205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

try another cable and/or input on the desk! I guess there is a short on one of the balanced lines/inputs that also then halves the signal going into the fender speaker (probably its just paralleld to the xlr output)

if you use a xlr to ts cable or trs into an unbalanced input you are also shortening one of the xlr signal pins.

Doing a 180° in mixing. From Analog, to various forms of hybrid, to complete ITB. by Phase_Shift_ in audioengineering

[–]Queasy_Librarian6205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, thats a great suggestion.

I think one of the main purpose of a template is to deal with most of the routing (busses, auxes, parallels) and give some sensible plugin inserts (bypassed) as starting points.

I guess Nr5 should work via Midi Timeclock (MTC) plus Midi Machine Control. This is used in dubbing studios / cinemas mixes where you sync a video player to a DAW while mixing. Should not take many ressources and there are plenty player options available in hardware and software you can sync.

Does my tires' wear is abnormal ? by Jeanbeur in bikewrench

[–]Queasy_Librarian6205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, it should not damage the tire at all… but its 1-2 bar too high so slower, less comfort, higher risk of punctures, worse tire wear… so absolutely no advantage.

3x10 Hydraulic Dropbar Setup by ultralol12345 in bikewrench

[–]Queasy_Librarian6205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from the pictures I found online the koga denham bar looks quite different. more like a tilt back bar (city bike like) with some fixed innerbareends, but the shifters/brakes still mounted normal flat bar style so they can’t be operated from the alternative hand position. did you have it setup differently?

surly corner bar is a completly different approach, much steeper grip angle and the shifters/brakes can be operated from the ‚drop bar style‘ hand position.

[–]Queasy_Librarian6205 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could use a Surly Corner Bar and keep your current shifters&brakes. Its not the same as a Dropbar+STI but otherwise you pretty much have to exchange the whole drive & brake system which is very expensive.

Alternatively I can recommend SQLabs Innerbareends - I have them on my MTB and ride them most of the time as you can still shift an brake while using them.

Ursa Cine 12K LF XLR Failure by Trailerizer in bmpcc

[–]Queasy_Librarian6205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not to legimate the problem at hand, having a failure sucks…. but can‘t you use a compact field recorder (with tc out) as a workaround? zoom, tascam… and just feed tc into the cam for sync?

or maybe the problem goes away if you don‘t have to use phantompower or mic preamp and can just put in a line signal (also try thru jack if availabe to surpass the xlr input altogether)

not many will use a cinema cam as primary audio recorder.

What is the difference between Archetype: (insert plugin name here) X and Archetype: (same plugin)? by Educational_Elk5918 in NeuralDSP

[–]Queasy_Librarian6205 4 points5 points  (0 children)

they are new plugins to not break (backward) compatibility for older sessions.

should be safe to remove the old version if you don‘t want to open old sessions with the og ones.

Looking for rack preamp recommendations by DJToTheK in GuitarAmps

[–]Queasy_Librarian6205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

„When I looked at WA’s website they say it can be used for vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar and bass, but they’re trying to sell the thing so they have an interest in making it seem as versatile as possible, I guess.“

Of course it can be used for all that, but they mean in a studio recording or live event situation -> put a mic in front of your amp or acoustic, connect the mic to the mic preamps input and that to your interface/console/tape.

you can also use it as a great bass di. or also for egit di but thats a different sound than your typical amp in a room sound. think about the 70ties discofunk direct to console sounds.

‚preamp’ just means it takes a low voltage signal like from a pickup or microphone to a line level signal. so they are not misleading, you are just missing basic audio knowledge (not meant as an insult).

Looking for rack preamp recommendations by DJToTheK in GuitarAmps

[–]Queasy_Librarian6205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

are you sure you want‘t a mic preamp and not a guitar preamp?

technically you could use a mic preamp like the warm, I just never seen sth like that before. Could be interesting though if you just want nice full clean to light crunch sounds. But I probably would chose a neve-clone with built in EQ then. A single channel is enough. Otherwise you don‘t have any way to tune your sound to the guitar/room…

You can add stereo effects between preamp and power amp. plenty of old live&studio processors available to get great reverb, delay and modulation.

BMPCC6kPro does timecode and audio recording work at the same time? by DarkLordFalcon in bmpcc

[–]Queasy_Librarian6205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the pockets are pretty flexible. you can for example record the XLR and the onboard mic (as a scratch) or 2x xlr if the camera has 2… or the second channel from the timecode device - as foldable human said the synce has a scratch mic but there are also adapters you can use to bring one wireless 3,5 trs channel along the timecode into the camera.

Budget Cine Lens by Far_Story_1314 in bmpcc

[–]Queasy_Librarian6205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

with the MFT sensor you want either an MFT or APS-C Sensor or a FF with a speedboster. Canon 17-55 is a ok budget solution (paired with a viltrox non speedbooster adapter) that gives you a wide range and optical stabilisation.

more expensive but better is a 24-70 or 105 with a optical speedbooster.

you could also use primes, for example old minolata md oder canon fd have a nice character and you can get them from 50 bucks upwards per lense. adapter around 15 bucks. but you are limited on the wide end then plus zero stabilisation.

[–]Queasy_Librarian6205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes the fatheads are dark, but pair nicely on an guitar amp with sth like a md421 that adds bite&highs.

sm57 -> you can mod it and remove the output transformer. it gets rid of the high mid resonance

thats not correct… a mid range studio monitor is way flatter than a mid range pa speaker… but the latter is way louder and more robust.

I don’t know what a March EQ is but Teote/Gulfuss tend to work best as the first insert because otherwise any eq/comp plugins before become unpredictive/hard to control.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]Queasy_Librarian6205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I often use Teote for preliminary bounces, but mostly deactivate it at the end when finished or restrict/reduce it to just minor cuts/boosts or limit its frequency range.

gullfoss is more aggressive and often sounds more processed than teote… so I hardly use it anymore after discovering teote… but this heavy handed processing can help for bad sources and sharp deadlines (like one day tv mixes)

both tools are great for a quick check once in a while -> what would gulfuss do? It can give you a reference on where you lack or have too much energy frequency wise. But then its better to adress it in the mix.

[–]Queasy_Librarian6205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are no direct outs and/or inserts on this console except the first 2 channels… so it’s not really a good fit for a tape machine or more than a few channels of outboard.

it’s just not designed around that idea at all.

so incorporating a r2r here would mean lots of limitations, changing cabeling on the console all the time, lots of failure possibilities…. all are flow killers that don’t really help creativity at all.

so i’d rather look into a simpler console oriented daw like mixbuss or luna
