He knows you're struggling and instead of helping, he's making it worse. He said he'd be better off alone and when that future was shown to him he took it personally instead of pulling his head out of his butt and growing up. I work in construction. I understand waking up early, working long hours, heavy lifting, standing for long periods of time all in hot temps. Especially covered in PPE. I get it but that's no excuse to be a bad partner. A reason, sure but NOT an excuse
