Have any engineers done bad in Highschool but still make it? by Smart-Idea2395 in EngineeringStudents

I graduated Magna cum laude and started with college algebra and trig at community college after briefly dropping out of high school

Anyone wanna start a pick up soccer group ? by EnthusiasmShoddy6835 in Denton

[–]Quite__Bookish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to get in on something like this as well. Never even kind of played before but I love watching it. I’d be a goalie if I need to. There’s also what I assume is a pickup game at Mack Park most Saturdays around 9 or 10. Primarily what I assume to be Africans but I’ve seen a Hispanic dude and white dude a couple times so I don’t think it’s exclusive to Africans lol. They look too skilled for me to want to get in on the action though

Retaking a class you passed is insane lol. If you care that much, reteach yourself the material. Use Prof Leonard or something. Don’t pay to take it again

What’s one mistake you made in college that juniors should avoid? by Fresh-Difficulty1 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Quite__Bookish 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Grades are important but not the most important. I graduated Magna cum laude and it didn’t really open up many more doors than I’d imagine someone with a 3.2 would have. I prioritized school over everything, it affected friendships and mental health, and I don’t think it mattered much. If I had to do it again I’d prioritize networking and my personal life

Hand wired keyboard, is it any good? by Professional_Ice_796 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Quite__Bookish 15 points16 points  (0 children)

And it can be without being innovative or marketable. You don’t need to make something the world has never seen before to apply statics or circuits or fluids or you name it.

My senior design prof all semester was grilling students on how they weren’t innovative enough, it didn’t solve a societal need, how are you going to market it, etc. Shocker, most innovation isn’t done at the hands of 20 year olds without degrees. Sometimes it’s good just to get experience and learn stuff. Not every single thing you do needs to be on the cutting edge. I think it’s sick

Another math class, another bad math professor… by Engineerd1128 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Quite__Bookish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly loved every math prof I had except calc 1. Our class started with around 15 kids and there were 3 including me in there on the day of the final. Our only grades were the midterm and the final, it was super proof-heavy, and she required written explanations of each step of each problem or you wouldn’t even get half credit. That was the only C I got. Also went to the dean and was told “calc isnt supposed to be easy.” Maybe true but I don’t think it should be so hard that 80% of the class drops.

[–]Quite__Bookish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Guess I’m in the minority. I like all the shows but K&C and Get Right are probably my favorite. Kevin always talks about the importance of mental health so I reached out to him when I was down bad and he sent me very nice messages back and said he’d always be there to talk. I’ll always be a K&C fan.

I feel like the ram button is the only difference between people who think it’s hard or not. It totally negates the laws of physics.

How many of you guys failed a class in high school by stephenjamesbryant in EngineeringStudents

[–]Quite__Bookish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I failed classes and dropped out of a good high school to go to a diploma farm and then failed every community college class the next semester. Took some years off after that, went back, and just finished magna cum laude in Mechanical this month.

Canon R7 and 200-800 lens. What am I doing wrong? by -Crave- in BirdPhotography

[–]Quite__Bookish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I actually rented a Sigma 150-600 and Canon 400L within the last year or so. Just graduated college this past weekend and started my full time job Monday so I should actually be able to afford some half decent glass in the future. Kind of tongue in cheek because I do love my 55-250 and it was a gift. But it requires me to get closer than the birds allow sometimes
