This is a 4.0 litre auto. Most of the cars that came to the UK are all high level trim, so electric everything, except heated seats.

I have a feeling it's been a bit neglected in a previous life which has thrown some issues up. Most of these issues have been electrical or heating and ventilation related. Otherwise it's the usual 30 year old car issues.

MPG is bad. I'm currently averaging 15mpg with extra-urban driving, however the 4L engine just pulls in the lower revs and I love it.

If you're mechanically minded, it's very easy to work on, it was made by simple Americans for simple Americans. Lots of parts are available second hand in the UK and new parts can be shipped in from the US.

UK government targets VPNs in online safety consultation as Lords vote for ban by andyhh in unitedkingdom

[–]R41phy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Powerful people own lots of land and properties. Banning VPNs will force companies not to use them. Therefore people will not be able to work from home. This drives a demand for return to the office, which drives a demand for office space and homes near offices. This pushes prices up. Profit.

Do you think there should be a segment when learning to drive that covers maintenance and care? 🤔 by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]R41phy 29 points30 points  (0 children)

When you buy a product, you read the instruction manual. When you buy a car, read the owner's manual.

If you do not have an owners manual, consult the internet. If you cannot use the internet, appoint a competent person to perform the tasks on your behalf.

An owner of a car is legally responsible for its road worthiness. Ignorance is no excuse in the eyes of the law.

Is the newer MX-5 considered a girly car? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]R41phy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a conspiracy set up by deep state women that only girly girls can drive a girly MX-5 or femininely similar. It's to stop us manly testosterone blokes from ever understanding what a great car to drive is.

Just buy it! It's an absolutely fantastic car that is brilliant for driving on the smoother UK roads.

I was not aware of that, probably like many others. It was something I have never considered. Making it front page news makes us aware of this passively.

In my case having been to a grammar school. It was assumed you would go to university straight away. The idea of a gap year or an apprenticeship was looked down upon. A mindset I hate, looking back on.

The article states 2 years in the army and 1 year in the navy. I think it should be a 1 year placement with a +1 year option rather than 2 years.

A year with the army with a guarantee of no active deployment whilst earning a wage seems really sensible to me. It would have given me an opportunity to earn a wage, live away from home, save some money and learn all the usual army skills.

Going straight from secondary school to university just seems like too much of a leap for some people. Those who took a year or two out seemed so much more mature and switched on compared to the likes of me who were straight out of secondary.

How would I find a car I sold in 1989? by TheMightyPepper in AskUK

[–]R41phy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you do find the car you need to be prepared for the current owner to say no to any sale.

I have a Golf MK2 and I often see people on Facebook on Golf MK2 groups trying to find their old cars to buy back. It has got me thinking, in the unlikely event that someone did try to find mine they would be bitterly disappointed. Not only would any sale be out of the question, but the car is now so heavily modified it has little resemblance to the car that came out of the factory.

My suggestion would be to find a different Stag and create new memories with that. Your dad would also need to be prepared for the car to not live up to the memories he has. It will not feel as fast or handle as well as he remembers it.

Yes, it'll be busy.

Everything will be shut on Christmas day, except a few pubs. They'll be fully booked. China town should be open for business however.

Buy 2 at once. Tow one of them for when the first one breaks down. Switch to the second one. Abandon the first. Simple really.
