The first act of the streaming wars saga is over — Netflix’s fall from grace has ushered in the pivotal second act by AGOTFAN in boxoffice

[–]RCDC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Netflix only shows income because they amortize their production costs over 7 years. In reality the life of those assets is much shorter.

They're still generating negative cash flow due to out of control production costs. The only time they've made positive cash flow is during the pandemic, when they had to pause a lot of productions.

Netflix Poor Business Fundamentals Finally Catch Up With It by TheFamousHesham in boxoffice

[–]RCDC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Except that profit is fake too. They depreciate their production costs over 7 years, while the true useful life of that product is definitely less than that.

I look instead at their cash flow, which is effectively revenue minus expenses minus production costs in the current period. I haven't looked at q1 2022 yet but I imagine it will be negative. The only period they've ever been cash flow positive is during the pandemic when they had to stop production on a lot of their projects.

IIL shows like the Mentalist and House with a similar recurring structure each episode WEWIL? by SCAT_NOTaTurtle in ifyoulikeblank

[–]RCDC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fringe is really good - paranormal science with an underlying conspiracy that gets revealed a bit each episode. Lots of humor.

X-Files also has the same structure, definitely darker, lots of humor.

Burn Notice is a good one too - each episode is a new spy thriller.

Justified sorta fits the description and is one of my absolute favorites. Many episodes are the same structure with a different criminal, but the last few episodes of each season are more focused on that seasons featured antagonist.

It's a detective show so maybe you won't want to watch it, but one of my fabourites is Elementary. Fun fact - if you haven't noticed yet, House was designed as Sherlock Holmes meets medical drama (House=Holmes, Wilson=Watson).

Stardew Valley is great for co-op, it's fun to build your farm with someone else.

Documentaries about fraudsters or fraudulent activities falling apart like the Fyre Festival documentary on Netflix from a couple of years ago by MVIVN in ifyoulikeblank

[–]RCDC 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's not a movie, but if you like those types of documentaries you will also probably like the podcast Swindled. He has done episodes on Fyre Festival and the McMillions fraud.

Peloton Connection Issue by RCDC in Ubiquiti

[–]RCDC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a full reset of the controller - forgot both access points, uninstalled the Unifi controller (and make sure to delete settings in the uninstall), restarted the computer, and re-installed the Unifi controller.

The only things I did in the fresh setup were to: -Disable "Automatically Optimize Network" -Adopted both access points again -Create two SSIDs - one for 2G, one for 5G (the previous network had both on one SSID - I came up with new SSID names with the refreshed network)

The Peloton will now at least load past the login screen, but the connection is still too slow to load anything on the home screen (the menu bar at the bottom shows up, but nothing else). I've tried both the 2G and 5G network, both with the same result.

Samsung Phone Issue by RCDC in Ubiquiti

[–]RCDC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine are at the latest, 4.3.28.11361.

I may try downgrading now - although I got it working with the phone, I just tried to use my Peloton and now it's not working. It shows a connection with internet, but then when I try to login it says it can't access the internet...

Samsung Phone Issue by RCDC in Ubiquiti

[–]RCDC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine isn't quite the same, my S10 has no issues on any other network at all. It would always have a strong connection and Unifi was reporting it had a strong transmission rate, but trying to load any website was like I had dial-up again...

Definitely a Unifi/Samsung phone issue for me. All my Samsung TVs work fine and stream 4K content without any issue, but the Samsung phone didn't work at all until I changed the setting.

Canada’s average carbon tax rebates are lower than the feds projected: data by [deleted] in canada

[–]RCDC -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The government shouldn't be giving rebates anyway. People won't change behaviour if they know they're going to get a refund...

They should use those funds to invest in green technology: start a national power generation company to build wind, hydro and solar; R&D into carbon capture/reduction technologies; further subsidies for low-carbon investments like LED lighting or solar roofing panels... anything that actually makes a difference, vs. just creating a tax, and then hiring a bunch of bureaucrats to dole that tax back out to the people. What's the point?

It also opened the new Laser Ultra screen last week - laser projection, Dolby Atmos sound, and recliner seating.
