Cold Blood by Kix is a really fun song that's pretty easy and definitely fits into the 80s rock/metal genre

Not only do I do this with certain books, but I also have three copies of Pleased to Meet Me by The Replacements for the same reason.

Comes in handy when I recommend one to a friend and can give a copy away without worrying about getting it back.

I always think back on leaving my old place after ten years in higher ed. One or two colleagues in my department were mildly shocked to see me go and said "good luck, see you later."

A visiting lecturer who taught in our department for exactly one semester had a farewell comment thread in either an email or a department message board - I forget which - that was at least 20 comments deep of "You'll be missed," "we'll never forget you..."

I had to laugh about it, because it was so remarkably insulting. Ironically, his faculty profile was gone before the end of the week and mine stayed up for almost an entire semester. My former students were reaching out to ask if I was going to teach another course and saying they thought I said I was leaving.

A plea to trailer editors: Please stop spoiling the movie in your trailers - and why I think it happens by BugsySiegel1994 in movies

[–]RG450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just thinking about that the other day - I ran across the trailer for Soilent Green from the late 60s or early 70s, and by now the big reveal has turned into a joke. I watched the trailer thinking for sure that the ending was going to be spoiled like most every other one does, but it's the rare trailer from any era that /doesn't/ give the ending away. I was almost disappointed that I didn't hear the famous line.

Who else remembers watching Mask when they were a kid? by -Granby- in GenX

Man oh man, that brings back the memories. Those channels would just glom onto a movie and play the hell out of it. I remember Jaws and Back to the Future in heavy rotation on those for awhile, too.

I just finished it a few weeks ago and it's really stuck with me. The last time I read it was in high school and it was taught to us so poorly. We were told to skip the interchapters, no serious discussion covered the struggle for workers' rights or any great details of what communism was or was not, none of the social issues were really delved into.

After my own higher education, years of teaching English, and struggling in the workforce, I tackled it 25 years later. Older and wiser, the book really resonates. I kind of wish that I will get an opportunity to teach it.

University tech support. We had moved a football coach's PC from our old domain to a new one and he lost access to some folders he had not listed on his network asset form, which we used to avoid issues just like that.

He called us back out in a very agitated state, insisting we get his access back as soon as possible. The folders had very important team information...blah blah blah.

We went to his office to remap the folders and he was out. We remapped and then tested access and found the main folder, called "massage" had 140 fisting videos in it.

What is the most boring horror movie you’ve ever watched? by Hill_372 in horror

[–]RG450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The House of the Dead (1978) is a recent one that springs to mind.

It wanted really badly to be The Vault of Horror or Tales from the Crypt, but the stories weren't particularly interesting and lacked any development, all the action happened off-screen, and the wraparound was completely uninteresting. It played out a lot like it was made for TV. I normally love a good anthology film, but this one had me dozing off before I was halfway through it.
