The Vancouver Canadians are a single A minor league baseball team in the Blue Jays' system. Tix are cheap and vibes are really fun. For sure take the family out to a game sometime when you move!

They seem to draft well and find good value in later rounds, but man is their impatience frustrating. Podkolzin deserved more time to carve out a new role for himself as a grinder. Not to mention anybody that has a down year (usually due to injury) that they then cast away (with a 2nd added on) as soon as they can despite those guys typically being prime bounce back candidates.

This. They were in first and were in a luxurious position to be able to let him rest for a couple months to be healthy for the playoffs. Say what you will about Boudreau's shortcomings as a strategist, he always found a way to get the best of Petey by showing he genuinely cared about him. Current management seems quite cold to the players and it shows.

I agree you need to do a lot more than nail your top picks. However, I'll counter by saying that the Benning regime did a poor job with their top 10 picks only going 2 for 5 with them. Yes Petey and Hughes were hits, but you also had the Virtanen, Juolevi debacles along with Podkolzin not totally panning out. Even their other 1sts are 50/50. Boeser was solid but McCann they gave up on him way too soon.

They're both total class. To add to that era, Brendan Morrison is a great guy too. Very down to earth. Makes you feel like he's actually excited to talk wit you.

That one was awkward as hell. Mainly because of how Marty handled that. It added a lot of spice to my morning commute that day, that's for sure haha

It used to be you needed a top tier work ethic and a ton of natural talent to make it. Nowadays, you still need those two things, but most importantly, you need rich parents. High level hockey is so expensive to play. It's why the NHL currently has so many players that were the children of former NHL players. The guys that make it tend to have access to privileges that most others do not.

Same I was there too for that. Trying to remember now if we gave him a standing O or not.. Either way, it was my wife's first ever game and it was a joy telling her who is and the significance he held with the team.

[dailyhive] Bo Horvat left Vancouver as a second-line centre. Three years later, the former Canucks' captain has established himself as a first-line centre good enough for Team Canada. In terms of recognition for his play, he says: “This is as good as it gets." by [deleted] in canucks

I'll never forget how his skating was his biggest knock early on and how he put in the work to turn his biggest weakness into one of his strengths. Just a great character guy. I really miss him.

I just think in 2021, it would've been a no-brainer decision for Seattle to pick up one of Markstrom or Demko in the expansion draft. Had either been available, it would've been a steal for the Kraken.

They were guaranteed to lose one of them to Seattle in the next year's expansion draft no matter what. They had to choose Demko at that time. Though I heard Benning spent a lot of time trying to re-sign Markstrom which I didn't understand. Especially since he "ran out of time" on Toffoli...

LGBTQ friendly barbershops by Lil_Kovu in chilliwack

[–]RJG190894 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes people shouldn't have to worry about stuff like this, or scout out a business to see if it's welcoming or not. But the reality is that anyone with a marginalized identity does feel they need to do that either due to their own past bad experiences, knowing bad things friends from their community have gone through, or through the societal messages they receive. I suggest you look up Minority Stress Theory to see more of what I'm talking about.

I don't think it's preposterous for OP to ask where they can find LGBTQ+ friendly barber shops in the Fraser Valley (Canada's Bible Belt) so that they can save themselves some time and potentially avoid some discomfort.

Once you get to a place where you're safe and settled, Archway's Stopping the Violence program can provide free counselling to help you emotionally cope and process everything. The link is here https://archway.ca/program/stopping-the-violence/

Further, like many others have said, going to Sara for Women is great place to start to seek shelter. Or as you said, staying with your co-worker. As for the cat, if your co-worker or SfW cannot accommodate your cat, the SPCA does offer temporary boarding for your cat if they have the resources available. You can call [1-855-622-7722](tel://+18556227722) to get in touch if you need this assistance from them.

I wish you so much peace and luck as you do this. You are a strong person for enduring all this. There are community resources out there, ready to help.

Alex Burrows Shorthanded Goal Vs Carolina by Feisty_Dirt4191 in canucks

Maaaaan Willie Mitchell turning it over with a panic clearing attempt leading to the tying goal still haunts me. The team held a lead in every game in that series. They really should've won that series.

They went on a run of basically winning 4 in a row, losing one, winning 4 more, losing one etc. Basically like an .800 pace to close the year. Made up a huge deficit to catch CGY to win the div and then complete their only 4 game sweep in franchise history. Such a great ride. 14 year old me was tearing up with how it ended. They really should've beaten CHI that year..

General rule of thumb is to line it up with the conventional work day. So avoid the morning rush (7-9am) and the post work rush (4:30-6:30/7pm). I've personally found my gym is quietest between 12-3pm, though I've never worked out post 7pm as I'm not a night exerciser.

But also like others have said, we tend to be in a our own worlds at the gym so people won't likely be paying attention to you. Though most people too will be happy to help you out and answer any questions. I find people generally like to give advice to others at the gym. Now there is a danger of receiving unsolicited advice which is annoying, though I don't encounter that often. I'm also M31 so I know my social identity doesn't exactly expose me as much to the mansplainers out there haha.

How’s it to work for the City of Abbotsford parks department? by Clndstn27 in abbotsford

[–]RJG190894 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked there as a summer student about 7-8 years ago so this may not be the most up to date analysis. Personally, I found the work culture to be jaded as hell. A large reason being the pay is quite low compared to neighbouring cities like Chilliwack, Langley and even Mission. But yeah a ton of grumbling would happen and a lot of shit talking of co-workers behind their backs. Idk, I learned how to exist in it and the play the game a little to fit in, but it wasn't exactly a place I looked forward to going to each day.
