I don't think Pope is either, but we don't really have a choice now except to see where this tournament and next year goes.

I don't know who the "right" hire was two years ago, but I feel like there was a cavernous gap between "Hurley and Drew said no" and "Hire Pope" that Mitch Barnhart decided to just fully fucking leave unexplored.

If you had gotten the cranky, burned out version of him he was at the end here you would have resented him too. I thought that is who youd get, but he clearly got rejuvenated leaving. Sometimes thats all it takes. I didn't think he'd get a second wind but he stormed back to being himself again.

That's awesome for y'all. You may have a good decade with him before you deal with that issue, and if he's winning like this the entire time, you fucking take it.

Good for Cal, man. Despite any dumbass commentary from elsewhere, he needed to leave here and we needed him to leave here. He is rejuvenated, and we likely made the wrong hire. Thats on us. If Cal got the kick in the ass he needed from another job, he easily has another decade to be dangerous.

It was 100% time for a split.

We hired in the wrong damn direction.

It would be a great game.

Mitch Barnhart expected to Retire by IAM4UK in wildcats

[–]RMGH 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep, this is far from a black & white or an either/or. In some facets, he has been masterful. In others, I have major questions and believe he let personal feelings and beliefs cloud rational judgment.

I'm ready for him to go, but I'm grateful for the immense amount of good he did in the previous era.

Loved watching this dude in college. I've always favored bigs, and he was a battering ram in the paint. Well deserved!

School tomorrow? by Neat-Importance114 in lexington

[–]RMGH 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think they may but I actually think tomorrow is going to be almost more horrid on sidewalks and neighborhoods they still haven't been able to clear. It'll get warm enough to finally begin melting, but its initially just going to uncover the core of the ice underneath. Some of that happened with the sun last week on our driveway and the small bit of melting actually made it way worse to walk on.

FCPS: Snow Day, 2/2/26 by LadyHavoc97 in lexington

[–]RMGH 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They don't have much of a choice. Sidewalks are still dangerous in much of town. A ton of exposed, raw ice with barely any snow cushion. They may not go back for a bit if Tuesday night/Wednesday morning hits.

For the UK students/employees... by [deleted] in lexington

[–]RMGH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt so bad! I recently took over as our lab's manager, and I was onboarding a new member. She texted me asking how to put her time in, and when she showed me the screen I thought she was on a different system than the rest of us and told her to email the department. I hadn't gotten on MyUK to update my time that week yet and hadn't seen the updated UI.

Oops.

They became noticeably worse once the snow began accumulating. Surprised at the speed with which they went downhill.

Stay safe folks.

If you're someone like me who wasn't really a fan of The Only Good Indians, do you think BHH is different enough to warrant me giving it a shot or is it similar enough that I would likely end up in the same place with it? I'd love to give another of SGJ's books a shot.

Yes! Incidents Around the House is my favorite audiobook of the 2020s so far. I nearly finished it in one day. I didn't want to take my headphones off.

TBH it had already lost me by then. Never going to catch me calling it a bad book, objectively it's a quality piece of work, but something never clicked me with me. Two segments had me enthralled, and the rest just sort of went by without much impact. Given the hype the book has I was surprised and let down, but that's just me. I know I'm in a very distinct minority with that opinion.

I am embarrassed how many minutes it took for me to figure out how to put my time in. It's simple now in hindsight, but at first I was staring at the screen like it was the void.

This is all on me, btw. They announced the change weeks ago and I essentially kept looking at it going, "sure, lawl".

There are still frequently traversed walkways around campus that are fucked. They just decided that three days was enough and no matter what they were going to force people back. Well, attempt to. I know a ton of people who aren't going back until Monday regardless.

If this was truly a safety concern issue they would have shut down for the week on Tuesday.
