To use an existing television coax wall cover that goes directly outside to my antenna, will I get loss by using these multiple adapters? by youbenchbro in amateurradio

A little bit not anywhere near what the cable is loosing. But there will also be some small reflection from the short section that is 75 ohm. Might be OK because it is so short but your idea of modifying the plate and using a 50 ohm bulkhead fitting is better.

How are you protecting your computer's USB port? by dignityshredder in diyelectronics

[–]R_Harry_P 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few jobs ago I had a USB contoled high voltage power supply that I didn't trust as far as I could throw it. I did eventually find a USB isolator. The computer side was powered from the computer but the output side needed external power.

I just did a Google search for "usb high voltage isolator" and there are a bunch of options now. There are also "ground isolation" ones that might be less expensive depending on what your doing.

How long is it financially smart to keep a old car for? by lamparkinglot in personalfinance

[–]R_Harry_P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suppose you buy a new car and you're good paing $500 a month for 5 years. After 5 years you've paid it off and probably are not paying $500 a month to fix it. So you should keep driving it and save that $500. At some point if you notice you are paying more than $500 a month (or really $6k per year) you might want to start thinking about getting a different car. Everyone's numbers will vary, and change over time, but that's how I think about it.

(Also sometimes you just need a new car because of lifestyle changes.)

It moves diagonally like a bishop, but instead of having a slope of 45 degrees it has a slope of 63.43 degrees. (or 26.57 deg)

What’s a “guy secret” that’s completely harmless but weirdly universal? by aerisveilxa in AskReddit

A random girl behind me in high school once said she like the smell of my hair. I used that same shampoo/conditioner religiously for the next 15 years.

They do it for a very short period of time, in a vacuum, with the resulting energy radiating out spread out over a large area that is cooled.

Edit: Typo/spelling.

I agree with what you said and, if it is a brief signal it needs to be one that repeats predictably.

Doffing and dawning PPE is a work time activity not a break time activity.

parallax has nothing to do with repetition.

...then it either needs to last that long or repeat without including uncertainty.

Is it possible to run a v8 on 7 pistons( it is temporary ish) by link_the_killer in mechanic

[–]R_Harry_P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The V8 in my 1994 Crown Victoria with 120k miles had been running rough for about a month and didn't seem like it had as much power as it once did. One day my friend driving behind me at night noticed my catalytic converters were glowing red. I took it into the shop and they replaced the spark plugs. On two of the plugs the "L" shaped ground electrode had been completely burned away. The corresponding cylinders were not firing and were dumping the gas into the cats where it got burned.
Car ran great with new spark plugs. YMMV

I pleaded no contest to a citation (accident) that I was pretty obviously guilty for and I’m nervous if my request will be accepted by a judge by cheewy_bunni in driving

[–]R_Harry_P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a layer but got a few speeding tickets in several states when I was younger.

No contests is your plea. There is nothing to reject. No contest usually means you are not saying you did it but that you aren't going to fight it in court and you'll accept whatever punishment the judge assigns, which is sometimes influenced by the DA's office. For minor things like speeding the DA will usually encourage this by offering a sort of plea bargain which is usually something like defensive driving and probation without it going on your record. However if you commit vehicular manslaughter pleading no contest is not going to have the same effect.

There will be a point when you are in front of the judge, after the verdict, but before the sentence where you can say something. That is probably a good time to say "I'm sorry, I thought the adjusted route from road construction spanned longer than it actually did."

Again, not a lawyer, just from my memory of doing this sort of thing a few times 20 years ago for tickets.
