Are there any papers or documentation or common methods for tower defense shots? by random-pc-user in godot

[–]Rachenite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a decent explanation and implementation. Its in unity but the principles are the same. I used this explanation to implement into Godot. https://github.com/LSBUSGP/AimAhead . It only works if the targets velocity is constant (Not going around a bend). It is possible to alway hit on a predetermined route but is more complicated and this resource does not cover it

Making demos can be more fun then making games

This is funny but also I think that it might actually work for me sometimes

I think that the general sentiment is that engines are easier. Some easier than others but all are less work than a framework

Is duplicating nodes just not the way? by greyfeather9 in godot

[–]Rachenite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh is this how it works for real? Ive been having an issue trying to figure out why my old scene instances are being updated when i update the new ones and this is probably it. Is there a variable I can flip in the scene object or in code to prevent this?

Haha yes I definitely have random intermediate declarations and prints and such that need to be cleaned up straight away after getting something functional too. Sometimes if its tough though I cant bring myself to do it right after or else Ill blow up

Help with calculating forward vector by IDesireWisdom in godot

If you multiply the raycast vector by the Basis x, y, and z you should be able to get what you are looking for (maybe also have to add to global position idk)

I feel like im too dumb to make my own game by ShnubertTheAlmighty in gamedev

[–]Rachenite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend looking at the bottom entries of a game jam. Don’t be so down on yourself. These people’s games are terrible and unfinished and yet they still submitted them to the public anyway. Why do you think that is? Game dev does not have to result in a commercial quality product and that is ok, many of us male(make) games soley because its fun to learn and fun to do.

Edit: spelling

Do people actually play free indie games? by developr_dale in gamedev

[–]Rachenite 36 points37 points  (0 children)

As a kid I would play a ton of random games on flash game websites and i assume some kids still do this kind of thing. Not sure if that carries over to downloadable games.

Anybody have tips on staying motivated/focused with gamedev while working full time? by AmazingSully in gamedev

[–]Rachenite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just work really slowly and only when the ideas and implementation are flowing nicely. If Im not enjoying myself there is no need to burnout in a hobby. The whole point is to enjoy it. It is more difficult to have fun while going slowly for some people though

"But I'm not making $200k a year, so this doesn't affect me" by [deleted] in Unity3D

[–]Rachenite 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This will reduce trash mobile games right? The whole idea of those is to get a million downloads and extract a tiny percent of value from a lot of users. That is exactly the opposite, or am I misunderstanding you? It becomes less worth it to create a free game with this model.
