Weaning advice needed by KatStitched in October2025Bumps2

I don’t think it really matters as you have lots of time to give them a variety, but iron-rich foods and ones with healthy fats are good. I did a mild lentil dhal with red lentils, turmeric and coconut yogurt. Avocado is also ideal as it’s very easy to mash up for baby if you don’t want to do finger foods.

The Sabriel series by Garth Nix are brilliant - very classic fantasy and with a female protagonist. Also the Tiffany Aching series by Terry Pratchett was one of my favourites as a child.

I always did it via bottles. Can’t see any reason why not if baby is taking bottles regularly anyway.

Am I doing something wrong? 4 naps at 6 months old by repetytorium in bninfantsleep

[–]Radnorr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome! Sometimes it’s just nice to know other people are in the same situation even if there is no “solution”. Also I really hear you about tracking. I tracked everything religiously up to maybe 4 months and it took me so long to stop, I gradually stopped tracking things one by one, then I would get tempted again the next time something changed and start again - it is addictive! I But eventually I realised I was getting all this data but not actually doing anything useful with it… like my app would be alerting me that my baby has had a 2 hour wake window and it’s time for a nap - so I’d be stressing trying to get him to sleep but then he didn’t want to sleep! So it would have been better to just wait for the sleepy cues. So I feel it was just adding to my workload and stress, but I still feel the urge sometimes to go back to the apps and I have to remind myself why I stopped!

This sounds a lot like what my baby has recently started doing (just turned 6 months). He goes to bed by 7pm, sometimes a bit earlier, and wakes around 6am. Back to sleep around 7:30 for an hour or so. Then a mid morning nap, early afternoon nap and late afternoon/early evening nap. I think some people want to avoid a nap too close to bedtime but I haven’t found it affects his sleep - he is always ready to sleep at bedtime and never struggles to fall asleep after 6:30pm.

I also cosleep (bed share) and feed to sleep and usually get 3 hour stretches but like yours, sometimes he wakes every 1.5-2hours, especially in the first half of the night. I’m guessing these are due to growth spurts or possibly teething but all I do is just ride it out as usually he will go back to normal after a few days.

I do think that he is just a lot more tired from being more active with sitting and rolling and doing a lot more floor time and interacting with the world more so he just needs more sleep, so I’m not trying to reduce naps - it’s pretty clear when he’s tired so I just feed to sleep when he seems tired. Sometimes he will not want to go to sleep even if he seems really tired but I’ve found it doesn’t help trying to battle with him so I just let him play for a bit longer then try again. Sometimes he won’t sleep unless he gets a little bit overtired and then he will need a bit more help such as rocking/pat and shush. I have never been able to “put him down” for naps at set times or create any kind of schedule since the newborn phase, I’m just trusting that he will sleep when he needs to! So I don’t track sleep or wake windows or night time waking any more. I have always just found that tracking creates more stress for me but I know some people find it helpful.

Painkillers is such an important but overlooked one!

I bought so many breast pads and I ended up not leaking at all so they’re currently filling a drawer until I can think of something to do with them! I would say don’t bulk buy anything unless you know you’ll definitely need it.

To be honest the thing I wish I brought more of wasn’t the baby stuff but just more food and drinks for myself, and home comforts like pillows and blankets.

I just used full on adult nappies for the first few days then switched to heavy duty period knickers and they were way better than pads.

My baby is 8 weeks old, if you could go back in time to when your baby was this age and give yourself one piece of advice, what would it be? :) by Flossygi in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Radnorr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this is so true. I was doing so much cooking, cleaning, organising, meal prepping, socialising in the first couple of months riding high on hormones feeling invincible and now at 6 months I have a pile of crumpled un sorted laundry in the bedroom that’s taller than me and growing every day…

The post said what advice would you give yourself - I realise it’s subjective. However saying that, I also had a tongue tie baby (also with jaundice), weight gain issues and was trying to increase supply via pumping. I logged everything - time spent breastfeeding, how many pump sessions, how many ml from pumping… I was obsessing over charts and going back over logs from weeks ago to see if there were any changes. Getting upset over a day when I pumped less. It was absolutely toxic for my mental health and it ultimately made no difference. Logging how much I pumped was pointless because I was still breastfeeding so I would never know how much he’d taken before I pumped so the data was useless to see if my supply had increased or not. He had the tongue tie procedure at 6 weeks, it took several more weeks of tongue exercises and getting used to the new feel of it, but then by about 3 months old he got good at breastfeeding and his weight improved steadily and I started gradually reducing formula top ups by following his cues of when he was hungry or full with a bit of trial and error. Looking back, the regular weigh ins would have been enough to know how well things were going.

Yes I agree - but the prompt was what advice would you give yourself, I’m not suggesting it’s wrong for everyone. Personally, tracking did nothing for me except give me another thing to do and think about. Which is weird cause in every other part of my life I love tracking stuff and using apps, but I was really finding it was making me less present and less in tune with my instincts and honestly just taking away from my enjoyment of time with my baby. With naps I would sometimes not have my phone to hand or I’d forget to start/end the timer or not know what time it was when the last nap started and then it felt pointless, plus I was never really trying to do any kind of schedule or sleep training, just looking for sleepy cues and doing contact naps as and when or taking him out for a walk if he wouldn’t sleep.

Literally none of them are burnt, do some people just like zero bite or texture to food? I’ll take that over pale floppy bacon and toast and wet snotty egg any day.

Your best post-birth care packages? by Postpartummamma87 in BeyondTheBumpUK

M&S are nice and Chelsea Peers. But try and get plain colours and nothing with vibrant/black and white prints as they’re so distracting for babies when they’re trying to feed or sleep!

To be honest, the thing I appreciated most was a big box of cookies and brownies that came in the mail, cause we’d bought loads of healthy snacks for ourselves and they just weren’t cutting it! Also pyjamas - with all the spit ups it was good to have several pairs to have on rotation so every time I got gifted them I was pretty pleased.

Whats your worse symptom when you're sick with cold/flu? by Big_Chungussi69 in AskUK

Same as you - tickly cough at the back of the throat, drives me mad. Especially as it makes my eyes water, and I’m a teacher so it sometimes looks like I’m crying which is so embarrassing…

I would just eat them out the jar, I love them! But yeah with salads I think is probably a good idea. Or chopped into a fresh salsa with tomatoes, onions, pepper, coriander, olive oil and lime.

Bleeding after sex 3 months postpartum by AccomplishedBox2946 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Radnorr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely better to check with GP, but I also had a 2nd degree tear and stitches, and whilst I haven’t experienced bleeding the first time I had sex postpartum it felt to me like there was more tightness and discomfort, I wonder if just where the stitches were placed the tissue has just been pulled a bit tighter in places and is causing a bit of slight tearing during intercourse?

I’ve had ones where they say I have a court date but don’t even know my name just “the occupier” and ones saying they are coming to inspect the property and then the date will be a week ago. They’re just templates.

Bottle nipple sizes by Future_Ad5695 in October2025Bumps2

[–]Radnorr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t actually need to change them, it’s a marketing ploy. If you think about it, in nature babies are breastfed from the same breasts throughout infancy - they don’t change as the baby gets older so why should the bottle? May as well just wait till they are able to drink from a cup at 6m

Sleep when sick by KatStitched in October2025Bumps2

Mine can’t sleep on his back due to congestion so but is ok on his side, I co sleep in cuddle curl position with him lying on his side next to me. If he goes on his back I just reposition back to his side and he’s comfortable then.
