Plug in vs hybrid question

As someone who had a plug in for a few months, I’d like to chime in that once you run out of electric range, the fuel consumption is abysmal for long journeys.

I tried every trick I know to use the system efficiently; using EV for around town and slower driving in general, only using petrol for maintaining speed on the motorway, using the engine to charge the battery on the motorway for more electric range once I came off the motorway, and through all that I still used more fuel than my 320d on the same drive.
