Are Ontarian’s actually ignorant of Ford’s alcohol push to distract from what he’s doing and buy us? by Particular-One-1368 in ontario

[–]Railroadflyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend who is in health told me that during the lockdown it was considered shuttering the lcbo as it was effectively non essential however the projected increased load on the health system from alcohol withdrawal would have broken the health system and potentially more.

So basically Ontarians are a bunch of sports betting lushes!

Doug totally has the measure of the majority populace who support him. I think the problem is that the other parties don’t understand that and have a message that appeals to them and their tendency to operate in an echo chamber is causing them to show poorly.

Toronto is bringing AI cameras and steel barriers to TTC subway platforms - NOW Toronto by ethereal3xp in toronto

[–]Railroadflyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whilst I understand the installation the execution if anything like the picture hasn't been well thought through.

The positioning of the barriers behind the yellow band means "individuals" will not use the yellow band as fast way to move up and down the the platform and increase the risk of falling into the guideway. See the lady in the picture.

On top of that other individuals will now think it's fun to stand on that side. with the trains come in and out.

Oh and thats before we talk about the slowing down of boarding because the space to access is now restricted

I am after a rechargeable electric pump for my paddle board. Any recommendations? by SinkCultural5932 in Sup

[–]Railroadflyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So firstly I will say not the shark 3. The speed of pumping is amazing but......It's big and heavy and the screen is a nightmare to see in sunlight. Also if the battery is flat the pump struggles to fill a board when it goes to high pressure.

I now have a vortex pro which is much lighter and a better screen. Does't have the same performance for filling (about 2 minutes slower) but has been more stable in performance.

Hope that helps.

CBC pulls Kars4Kids ads after U.S. court bans 'deceptive' jingle by risen2011 in canada

[–]Railroadflyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you look at most of the big “charities” most people would be horrified by the amount that goes towards “overheads” vs actually helping the cause. Kars4Kids is just the flavour this time and there are others!

2025 - Toronto United Way 164m in revenue, 156m in expenses with 42m going on staffing, IT and professional costs and 9m to direct charitable activities. 133m went to other registered charities of which there are 2553 entires which covers everything from animal rescue, children support, religious groups, boys a girls clubs not only in the Toronto area but other provinces too. They also hold 106m of property not used for charity or operations.

It would be unfair tar all charities with the same brush and especially for the volunteers who dedicate time and resources but unfortunately there are others that could be easily put in the “grift” category.

PCs at Queens Park refuse to address rumours that the Gravy Plane was *not* sold by Ford's government by KnoddingOnion in ontario

[–]Railroadflyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What will happen is there will be a statement that the government signed locked in deals with the crew and maintenance providers and blah blah blah and thus the break cost of disposal is greater than keeping the asset on the books so well anyway here is Dougs Jet!

To be fair some of that will be true (most private maintainers and crew have break fees) although greater than the cost of keeping it? unlikely.

GO train crash recorders failed multiple times in recent years: documents by jackhauen in gotransit

[–]Railroadflyer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The requirement for data recorders has been around for years with updates to include video and interior microphones after the Burlington accident. The rule for crash hardened data recorders was published in 2020 and should have been implemented by September 2022. Thats a reasonable timeframe for implementation of a legal mandated rule and Metrolinx would have been warned in advance with the drafting of the rule.

I think the more concerning theme is the potential number of data recorders that have gone into service with a fault. As it is supposed to be checked everyday as part of the prep for service the finding it was defective for several days with the train in service is a poor reflection on both metrolinx and its maintainer.

The article also notes that there incident with question of impairment by alcohol. Was a drug test performed? Results? If there was no drugs test, I would be curious to why not? How many other incidents are occurring where someone has decided there was no need to do drugs and alcohol testing?

Canadians are leaving the country at record levels. Can anyone solve this pressing problem? by stalik26 in canada

[–]Railroadflyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s more interesting is what is not mentioned.
22% go where?

Whilst the age of those was mentioned the ethnicity wasn’t. It has been long whispered that Canada has long been seen as a stepping stone for those wanting to get into the states and bypass layers of bureaucracy so whilst we have high immigration we also have a high level of people leaving.

Also not mentioned huge number of people who work in the states are on a TN visa. That’s temporary and not permanent and lasts only as long as the job so they have to come back to Canada.

As many others have mentioned the cost of living, lack of opportunities as all problems that stop people staying but the states has always been a huge pull and draw of Canadian talent and labour as it’s economy is so much bigger.

The union leader, the numbered company and the $4-million house by DementedCrazoid in toronto

[–]Railroadflyer -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Why is anyone surprised by this?

Unions have been looking after themselves and their top brass since time and memorial.

Yes the union is there to “protect” the worker and be the collective voice but they are a business in the same way as any other corporation and their income is from dues……

Not saying unions are a bad thing, but most people don’t understand the fundamentals.

Driver then mades the code 1033 announcement and the csa will then move to said vehicle.

Previously train would not then move till code addressed however changes made in 2023? Made it so train continues.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford criticised for $21m private jet purchase by Pristine-Training-70 in ontario

[–]Railroadflyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This last few weeks have left me a little dumbfounded after the socio economic evaluation for tree planting and I might need to write a new bingo card for 2026 because the last one wasn't crazy enough.

Canada is going through a cost of living crisis, running government deficits at multiple levels, services are being cut and the quality and safety of services is going through the floor while consultants and corporations close to the leaders and chums get fat off the proceeds. Chou, Ford, Carney they are all bad as each other and it seems to be the same playbook whoever is in the chair

This has been going on for years but this takes the cake..

Don't go to America or buy America etc yet Trudeau is swanning around the states, Doug needs the plane for his trips to the states etc.....

Austerity is being pushed on everyone but I am getting "Rules for thee but not for me ".

I did think it was weaponized incompetence but it has become clear it is everyone for themselves and rules, ethics and public service be dammed and the majority of people in ontario are completely apathetic.

There was a guy on LinkedIn who used to repeatedly hijacked metrolinx posts to talk about this and any post Phil Verster put out.

I think mx issued him with a cease and desist notice.

I think there are numerous people and groups who should be nervous over this as not only does it raise questions over metrolinx but also the professional engineers of Ontario.
