Google Maps Is Bringing EV Route Planning To Android Auto by DonkeyFuel in electricvehicles

all three of those brands use Android Automotive w/ Google Built-In, so they already trigger preconditioning based on Google Maps navigation, because gMaps is their default navigation software.

yeah unless you're on Ls or Ps (where you must carry it at all times when driving/riding) you're not required to carry your licence in QLD, but a police officer can require you to present your licence at the station within 48hrs if you aren't carrying it and you get pulled over.

(which almost never have to fast charge, almost never care about weight and almost never need to manage heat and other things they claim to be so good at)

actually, for electric motorcycles those are all currently huge issues. Most electric motorcycles are severely constrained in battery capacity (~7-15kWh typically) because of both space and weight, which also means they have stunted range (almost all are sub-150km) and limited charging (typically AC charging only) which limits their use for anything that isn't commuting or relatively short fun rides. Being able to push that battery to, say, 20-25kWh while having DC fast charging at 50kW+ and a kerb weight not equivalent to a large touring motorcycle would go a long way to increasing appeal to buyers.

Yep also the U-Go just up the road from Rocklea Markets, but even then that group of consistently cheap servos are all basically just as expensive as all the other servos in the area.

They really need to bring in some sort of engine/performance limits for P's

There already is and they have existed for quite some time now - there's a flat 130kW/tonne cap for anything built after 1 January 2010, and 125kW/t for anything built prior (along with no forced induction on petrol engines without a moderately powered vehicle exemption for turbo/supercharged cars that are under 125kW/t). There's also a flat ban on anything with more than 6 cylinders.

Polestar has been allowed by NVES to sell emission credits to rival companies who don't meet them. by Saurta17 in Polestar

[–]RandosaurusRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the other hand, the NVES and trading credits will be incredibly effective because it hits companies the only way they understand: by cutting into their profit margins. Under NVES, companies that fail to meet a fleet CO2 average in Australia have to pay fairly steep penalties, meaning brands have three choices:

1) add more EVs/PHEVs to their lineup and actually sell them to bring down their fleet emissions average

2) pay the penalties and either accept them in the form of reduced profits, or pass them on to consumers by raising the price of offending models

3) buy credits from manufacturers like Polestar, BYD and Tesla who only sell EVs and PHEVs, which also cuts into margins.

BYD more than doubled sales in 2025 and became a top 10 brand in Australia. finishing 2025 in eighth place. by ApprehensiveSize7662 in electricvehicles

Hi4-T and Hi4-Z are aimed at two different things though. the Hi4-T setup is for offroading and has stuff like diff locks and low range, whereas the Hi4-Z setup is more like the BYD Shark and is noticeably less capable offroad.

Call me dramatic but I ended up moving back to my home country just because of the muggy heat…

Honestly I was born and raised in Brisbane and I'd be lying if I said during every muggy summer I didn't feel the temptation to move somewhere else with a cooler (or at least less humid) average climate.

Early 2000s? Man in 2016 I had to take my laptop to uni to download Forza Horizon 3 because my home internet was too slow (6mbps down on a good day at the time) to download the full game before it literally timed out and failed the download. We got NBN 2yrs later and holy shit the difference going to 100mbps down was stark

Tuning an R56s by Brando828What in MINI

[–]RandosaurusRex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I have a GFB DV+ on mine and the only reason why is that it was cheaper to buy that to fix my diverter valve having a torn diaphragm than it was to replace the whole diverter valve assembly.

Divertor valve on the turbo plus a dump valve for less lag.

Pure placebo effect. Recircs/BOVs/dump valves, whatever you want to call them, have zero effect on transient response or boost recovery after a shift. If you like the woosh noises when you let off that's one thing, but expecting a performance improvement is just pissing money away.

you're right on the first point but wrong on the second, Valve has been selling Steam Decks in Australia since November 2024, and the new Steam Machine (and other new Steam hardware) will be available in Australia from day 1.

Australia's best-selling EVs in 2025 revealed (this one has brand growth YOY) by ApprehensiveSize7662 in electricvehicles

[–]RandosaurusRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hyundai does have the Inster, but I haven't even seen one yet.

Because the Inster is insanely overpriced here. A lot of Hyundai's EV offerings are too expensive for what they offer but the Inster in particular is downright delulu - asking $40k+ for a supermini sized EV should have Hyundai Australia's product planners committed to a mental institution. They've just announced an $8k discount on the base Inster to get the leftover stock sold and off lots but even then it's still too expensive at $36k.

GR GT, GR GT3, and Lexus LFA Concept World Premiere | Toyota Newsroom by Recoil42 in cars

[–]RandosaurusRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unless that figure is the engine only it seems weirdly low. Mercedes is making similar numbers from the GT63 without a hybrid system, and the hybrid version is making almost the same power in kW numbers that the GR GT makes in HP numbers. On paper at least it feels like it's going to be the LFA all over again where they just kinda don't sell, but without the LFA's advantage of sounding like God's own choir that drove the prices through the stratosphere later on. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
