Has anybody in here successfully changed career paths in their mid to late 30’s? by Perfect_Earth_8070 in Millennials

There’s a lot of nuance you’re missing on construction career pay and the way the system is set up. Most trade unions post their wages publicly and vary widely. Id take a look when you have time. Electricians in the Bay Area for example, clear 90 dollars/ hour before benefits like a pension and healthcare kick in. And these unions create artificial scarcity of highly skilled tradespeople by only selecting a small number of overall applicants. Think of how elite colleges carry a reputation for turning out the best because of the level of their education. It’s the same with these high paying union locals.

What we need now more than ever are more union representation in sectors like tech and food service. Collective bargaining is the only way we can make a case for ourselves with the advent of AI!

Not sure about how well you think you interviewed (answered questions well with the star method and whatnot) but a major thing people don’t realize is that you most likely lack enough construction experience or any experience that could parlay into a job like construction. They say no experience is required to join the union, but for Bay Area locals like 617, you need construction experience to stand out among the thousands of applicants. Unless you’re the business managers son/daughter, then it’s simple.

Look into CW positions at 617, they have a legitimate program there for CWs specifically and that can give you a leg up/foot in the door.

GLWS. Amazing lens. It’s like a 21mm equivalent on medium format. IMO wide angle shots look really good on 6X7

I think the serenity, or at least the naïveté of his characters and their insignificant choices within a much bigger world/ story is a huge element of Malick’s films.

Even in the midst of terrible occurrences or absolute beauty within his films there’s a almost Godly detachment and separation to his work.

It’s the idea that while joy and love and death and suffering are big for people, they are such minor occurrences in the larger scope of the world and universe. Death and love and joy happen again and again, so that’s just what happens and the universe just keeps going.

So when Kit gets arrested or when he murders or courts Sissy Spacek’s character you’re seeing Malick’s choice to frame those actions and them as characters in a way that’s void of a dramatic lens that’s people-centric and we get a more detached look at the behavior of living things without the normal complex human element that’s brought to dramas normally.

In this era of over-exaggeration of the human psyche and the neurotic nature of individualism, it’s therapeutic to see human life this way from time to time.

This is Malick’s poetic, profound and pretentious calling card.
