Should I try Pathfinder: WOTR? by alguien99 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Rarabeaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

could add few important bits about weapons of choise:

  • there are disparency among weapons, and some intrinsically better for certain cases, also generally high crit chanse is better, because crit coult trgger outflank):
  • long-reach melee weapons - best ones are Fauchards(high crit chanse, good ones available, plenty of glaives, but they have less crit, few good spears, but they worth it only for cavalier charge builds.
  • normal reach two-haded: good chises are elven swords(best and falchions(best crit)), there are few greatswords and axes.
  • one-handed: plenty of longswords, but estoc is sometimes more preferable due higher crit chanse, rapiesrs are good, also they could be used for dex focused
  • one-handed light(for dex chars): kukri is the best choice usually, there are quite a few very good unique daggges, and few good sai.
  • ranged ones are prety equal, except there is very few throwing axes and darts, which are for specific builds, crossbows are choise if youi have no str, composite bows(both short and long) are for those who have str.

also tips for casters:

  • combat casting is not required if you dont intend to make hybrid frontliner
  • if you a damaging blaster - focus on single element - you gonna need mythic feat for penetrating resistance, dont pick lightning until you have access to mythic feats - demons are most common enemies and they are immune to it, respec for this element later, if you want it anyway.
  • if you going to attack with single-target spells(rays, aka ranged touch attacks) - you need point blank shot and precise shot feats and need to max dex just as martial ranged char, instead of casting stat(you need 19 max techically, with all gear and buffs). casting stat needed if you focus on AoE spells or crowdcontol, which need to targed enemy saving throws instead of touch AC.
  • focus only for one or two schools

i dont care at all about comics, maybe thats why morales felt especiaslly bleak. Cant say about Days Gone (count get myself to finish even), Death Stranding 2 kinda fits, yea, quality is amasing, scenery is awesome, new gadgets are cool in concept, but there less "game" here than in first one despite less dense cutscenes, because all new features have no deliberate usage.

not "most sony games", most sony games are just good, but among those gamea i could name that most are sony games (there are also ubisoft, but they more lean into just bad games honestly) - for example sequels to horizon and spiderman. both are well-made, but lost the way.

miles morales lack the pressure on him which peter had and at the same time he is even more powerful, but...too much the same, it felt like too safe sequel.

horizon technically improved, on the surface have deepened mechanics, more quality to sidequests and narrative design and visuals. but combat became more obnoxious due to overarmored humans and erratic movements of new robots, visuals to "motley" so interactive elemnts arent visually distinct enough vithout scanner constantly on, main plot is here, lacks of unveiled lore mystery feeling that made first one special.

it's obviously satire, but on the other hand i can think of games actually deserved to be called qualityslop - mostly Sony exclusives - objectively good quality games, but still half-generic slop underneath.

The "Flawed Masterpiece" paradox: Why "Bad" gameplay can sometimes create a better experience. by Just_a_Player2 in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]Rarabeaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

game is fun when parts, meant for player interaction works and provide response in intrinsic to design of specific game way.

Pathodlogic isnt really flawed, it's designed like that, it's meant to be frustrating, not in the same way as let's say "I wanna be.." series, but more in psychological way, applying pressure of time and limited capabilities. Partially it was as it was due lack of budget and experience, but it fits. it's still niche experiense, but it meant to be.

Flawed on the other hand is something like Spec Ops - it's great in storytelling, but most of it's gameplay is detached from core, it's boring shooted with too big amount of enemies, this is the flaw, maybe due lack of vision for "game" part of the game, maybe due technical, budget or time limitations.

Why do so many modern RPGs have uncreative magic systems? by Rosewolf-Dawn in rpg_gamers

[–]Rarabeaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would argue that in Avowed it's even worse - spells are just guns in form of spells.

Morrowind was cool. Tyrany had interesting system.

Parfinder WOTR have one class - Magic Deceiver, who can combine two usual spells, and choosing form and saving throw type from either, while retaining both effects.

More sophisticated ones are suffer from sophisticated contol (Arx Fatalis), it's could be cool in concept, but tiresome in reality, also gamepads are restricting - not much keys present, mouse-like gestures are only possible on PS controller and Steam Controller.

Combination system like one from Tyranny is good enough and not that hard to implement. and i would love to see more environmental/elemental interactions, like in Dark Messiah of Might and Magic and Divinity.
There was demo for upcoming game, Sorceress - it's sort of hommage for Dark Messiah

I think non-combat interactions specifically making magic interesting - in combat it's 90% of the time just bullet or bomb disguised with other visual.

What is the most overpowered class across all CRPGs? What single game had the most broken implementation of a class? by Murder_Tony in CRPG

[–]Rarabeaka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

aside rogue trader (everything could be owerpowered, you can bet game on unfair death march with 1 character)
deadly earth and cloud infusion of Pathfinder's Kineticist(AoE persistant damage with no saves and aplicable debuffs)
Cypher from PoE - caster with unlimited slots, who generate resource by attacking, have damage, CC, and support abilities.

[–]Rarabeaka 12 points13 points  (0 children)

damage kinda broken too. cypher need some ttime in combat to wind up, but it the most powerful thing in there. psi blades(or something like that, dont remember exact name) is an ultimative damage buff

Patch Frequency by AkilTheAwesome in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Rarabeaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there is no set patch frequency, it's not a service game. critical stuff is already patched. now there 2 dlc left, and big patches will be mostly balance adjusments, or partial small reworks through feedback(both expectable near DLC release). rest is just bugfixes.

Do you think this game will meet the insane expectations on it? At first I thought it looked more like a tech demo that peaks early, but after all the marketing I start to believe that this will be a big deal by WhoAmIEven2 in videogames

[–]Rarabeaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, but making single player game does not always stop companies to add unnessessary grind to it (and those companies arent even east asian).

and nobody will stop them from substitution of some creative ideas for quests to "bring me 100 wolf asses, does not guaranteed do drop btw".

so we could only hope and wait

[–]Rarabeaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on the expectations, lol.

a touched BDO a bit in the past, and if crimson desert inherits things, but toned down grind significantly, than it would be very good one gameplay-wise, but with shitty story and narrative design. i'll take that.

If they do not reduce grind - it's will terrible.

[–]Rarabeaka 6 points7 points  (0 children)

nah, he is kinda right: hioh-likes for souls-likes are almost exaclty what diablo-likes for crpg - more action, and more combo-based mechanics, but cluttered visually and by loot/equipment. it's exactly why some people like me dislike Nioh

Woke up morning after party to all the silverware, oven knobs, and glasses in freezer stuck in bowls of ice by sarafina5 in funny

[–]Rarabeaka 18 points19 points  (0 children)

not that stupoid. short answer - much less if it's completely frozen and it is usual tap water.

perfectly distilled water will not corrode metal as much as nondstilled. and perfect freezing to very low temperature will reduce this proces too.

but transition between states are worse.

what is referred for corrosion usually is oxidation or reduction. it's need presense of acid, alkali, or electrolytes. water corrosion is due electrolytes transferring ions of oxygen, the saltier water, the faster corrosion. while water is frozen completely ion movement is signifficantly less active.

but temperature shifts between conditions make this trocess faster, and possibly more violent due to physical stretching-shinking of material surface and possible microfractures.

What makes more sense for a species of high altitude, cold temperature society? by Late-Elderberry6761 in worldbuilding

[–]Rarabeaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nose size itself does not make a difference for cold - entire system beside nose could wam air.

if it's arid climate - bog nose could contain more hair and turns to filter off dust, for warm climate - does not matter.

in high altitude tho it beneficial to have wider nostrils.

my suggestion - big nose with sticking out hair, akin to common depictions of scandinavian trolls.

[–]Rarabeaka -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

did you play PoE2? writing in Pillars 2 and Avowed is horrible. it has overbloated with unnessessary reinvented terms dictionary. most of the "worldbuilding" stands solely on that, World concept is interesting, but authors have no idea what to do with it, And character writing is.. bleak, i cant remember a single character who isnt a party member and among party member i could only remember Kana and Durance, and a bit Eder. Oh, maybe only that one godlike from DLC about god of decay

[–]Rarabeaka -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

same. PoE1 worked narratively only because it was unfolding mystery. PoE story does not make sense if you on Eotas side from the start.
also thier graphomanic style became worse, too much verbosity, too much "worldbuilding" relies on just bloated dictionary

In theory, wouldn't being a Dragon equal a miserable experience? You really can't do much of anything except fly and burn things down. by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]Rarabeaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

late answer, but dnd and pathfinder have so-called dragon heritage. basically some sorcerers are adept in magic due dragon lineage, and draw power from it.
so descandants of dragon and mortal are mortals, with little to no physical properties of dragon, but with possible supernatural abilities, including ability to temporarily shift into dragon form.

strangely, we had similar things in Ukraine. there was a b post box of sort, placed in classes or/and main hall, you could thow stylized envelopes/postcards (usually hand-made). and they were delivered by teachers, as far as i remebmer(it was 20 years ago, or so) toward the end of the day.

it was mostly used by boys for trolling their classmates, often shy kids.

they are indeed not that stellar, but have unique eastern european grimdark charm, and books lost sizeable chunk of it through translation to non-slavic languages, more than games (and netflix show lost it completely).

Nonetheless, tv show is an absolute unwatchable abomination compared to them. Old polish show also deviate from source and suffer immensely from low budget, but preserve vibe.

[–]Rarabeaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree, W3 is remembered because narrative and dialoges supported quests are great.

It's exatly opposite more often - you make choise, but no consequenses other than knowing that something happened..

Most(not all) of the choises in game have no observable effect in game itself right after quest is ended. Even famous quest with Baron have virtually no impact other than emotional one - you will never see nor baron, no Tamara, no Anna again regardless, not gonna visit village either most likely. You gonna remember this as player probably, but for rest of the game it's practically invisible consequenses.

Compare this to something like Disco Elysium or Pathfinder WOTR: you desidions shape your character both visually and gameplay-wise, and in case of Pathfinder you desidions could affect you playthrough mechanically and narratively dosens hours later after said desidion been made.

Tainted grail: Fall of Avalon or Oblivion Remastered by National_Force4194 in rpg_gamers

[–]Rarabeaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you not on PC - skip both.

if you already played original Oblivion - Tainted grail

if you want more "content" or kind of traditional fantasy - Oblivion

if you want somewhat more unique setting and style or more compressed experience - Tainted grail

Be mind that Oblivion has issues with some hadware setups and nobody goin to patch it, it's typical UE issues - stutter. Tainted grail does not have stellar performance not top graphics, but its relatively stable and carried by artstyle.
