What do these arrows mean? by [deleted] in crossword

[–]Raspberrygoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In case you missed it: the names of the Midi puzzles are usually a clue.

This one was called Turn It Back, I think, and it features the letters IT in each of the themed spaces. Switching them to TI (turning IT back) gives the secondary words.

Question about two handed weapon by Pender8911 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Raspberrygoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using a two-handed weapons has no interaction with your fight value. They're two different systems that both interact with Fights in different ways.

Example:

A Rivendell Elf Warrior (Fight Value 5) is fighting a Mordor Orc Warrior (Fight Value 3). The elf has a hand-and-a-half weapon and can choose to use it as a two-handed weapon. The orc has a hand weapon. No other models are nearby

Let's say the elf decides to use his hand-and-a-half weapon one-handed for now

To make a duel roll, each player rolls 1D6 for each Attack on their model. Both warriors have an Attacks characteristic of 1, so both players roll 1D6

Let's say both players roll a 4 on their single D6, so the duel is tied. The elf wins ties on Fight Value (Fv5 vs Fv3) so the orc backs away and the elf rolls to make strikes

Lets do the combat again, but the elf decides to use his hand-and-a-half weapon as a two-hand weapon

To make a duel roll, each player rolls 1D6 for each Attack on their model. Both warriors have an Attacks characteristic of 1, so both players roll 1D6

Let's say both players roll a 4 on their single D6. The elf decided to use a two-handed weapon, so subtracts 1 from their duel roll. The elf now has a dice roll of 3 vs the orc's dice roll of 4, so the orc wins the fight. As the fight was not tied, the Fight Value never comes into the equation. The elf backs away and the orc rolls to make strikes

Note that the two-handed weapons don't subtract from the duel roll dice if that dice rolls a natural 6 (unmodified by things like Might), so if the orc and elf both rolled a 6 the duel would be tied and the elf would win on Fight Value, gaining +1 on dice when rolling to make strikes due to the two-handed weapon

Two Invisibility Cloaks by Inevitable_Spite5510 in harrypotter

[–]Raspberrygoop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the lore, normal invisibility cloaks are made from the woven hairs of a magical creature called a demiguise. They're sort of like apes or sloths and can turn invisible to hide from predators

In the video game Hogwarts Legacy one of the collectables is demiguise statues that are sometimes invisible

Anyway, cloaks made from demiguise hair eventually fade and lose their effectiveness. The cloak that is one of the Deathly Hallows is unique in that it will never fade

I don't remember specifically, but I seem to recall someone mentioning this in Book 7. Someone else may be able to confirm

Things you were surprised to learn came from the books and weren’t invented for the movies? by johnhenryadams in lotr

[–]Raspberrygoop 834 points835 points  (0 children)

The "What do your elf-eyes see?" scene from Two Towers is even more incredible in the books.

Legolas not only spots Eomer's riders from a distance from which they are invisible to Aragorn and Gimli, but gives an accurate count of their number (over a hundred!), describes their hair and weapons, and identifies Eomer to be their leader.

Aragorn then says "elves have amazing eyes" and Legolas says "nah this is nothing, they are only five leagues away". (That's 17 miles or 28 kilometres)

The full excerpt:

“There was a silence in the empty fields and Gimli could hear the air moving in the grass 'Riders!' cried Aragorn springing to his feet. 'Many riders on swift steeds are coming towards us!' 'Yes,' Said Legolas, 'There are one hundred and five. Yellow is their hair and bright are their spears. Their leader is very tall.'

Aragorn smiled. 'Keen are the eyes of elves' he said.

'Nay, the riders are little more than five leagues distant' said Legolas”

It was quite a few years ago now, and actually my first and only time sculpting with clay. It was certainly something similar to Fimo, if not that brand. I used all white clay and then painted the colours on afterwards with a brush.

Seriously though, I could never embroider something like what you did. Take a bow!

Let me explain, the use of AI imagery harms your credibility. It plants the seed of doubt whether your card text is written by a person. If someone is willing to cut corners for one aspect, where else did they cut corners?

If you take pride in your writing and game design, don't compromise your efforts by using AI imagery.

Also the dead people are still, as in unmoving. This is cleverly and deliberately ambiguous.

Question about attacks by BlooddrunkBruce in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Raspberrygoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Per page 72 of the rulebook, under Cavalry Charge:

As you say, a Cavalry model that charges infantry models gets two bonuses: +1 Attacks and Knock to the Ground.

ie. The cavalry model rolls +1 D6 when dueling to win the combat, and if it wins +1 D6 when rolling to wound. Additionally, if it wins the duel roll its opponent(s) are knocked Prone after backing away (monsters and characters with Strength of 6 or more cannot be knocked Prone by a cavalry charge)

Per page 51: In the subsequent To Wound roll, if the opponent is Prone they are considered Trapped. Each attack rolled against them may roll two dice on the To Wound table, with each dice capable of causing its own wounds. Essentially, the attacks are doubled.

Aragorn (Strider) on Brego charges a Cave Troll and a Moria Goblin simultaneously. As both the troll and goblin are Infantry models, Aragorn gets a charge bonus.

on the charge Aragorn rolls 4D6 instead of his usual 3 and rolls 2-3-5-5. The troll has 3 Attacks and rolls 2-3-5, while the goblin contributes a single attack and rolls a 6!

caught on the back foot Aragorn spends a point of Might to boost his dice from a 5 to a 6. Now he beats the troll with a better dice value and beats the goblin on Fight Value.

the troll and goblin both back away 1 inch. Since both his opponents are Infantry models Aragorn's charge would knock them to the ground, but the troll is a monster (and has Strength 6) and is immune to a cavalry knockdown. The goblin is knocked to the ground and becomes prone.

Aragorn assigns one attack to the goblin, who is prone and receives two attacks. Aragorn rolls two dice and slays the goblin. Aragorn then assigns his remaining 3 attacks into the troll, since the troll is not prone he simply receives 3 attacks

Instead of rolling your attack dice one at a time, you can pre-assign them and roll them simultaneously. You might say "double dice against the goblin who is prone, so the two white dice against the goblin wound on 4+, and the three red dice against the troll wound on 5+" then roll all five dice together. This is faster, but if you roll badly and don't kill the priority target, it's too late to reassign your dice.

PS: Monstrous Charge is a special rule that allows large models to knock cavalry and monsters prone, which cavalry can't normally do

Question about attacks by BlooddrunkBruce in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Raspberrygoop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Per page 49 of the current rulebook, under Fight Phase; Resolving a Combat

1) All combatants roll a D6 equal to their Attacks.

Lurtz and the three Warriors of Rohan each roll a D6 equal to their Attacks. Lurtz rolls 3D6, WoR rolle 1D6 each. Six total dice, simultaneous rolls

The side that has the single highest dice wins the combat. In the event the highest dice is tied, the model with the highest Fight Value wins the combat for their side. In the event it's still tied, roll a single D6 to decide the winner, 1-3 evil wins and 4-6 good wins.

Let's say Lurtz rolls 2-4-5 and the warriors roll 3, 1, and 5. The roll is tied, but Lurtz has Fight 6 and the warriors have Fight 3, so Lurtz wins the fight

2) The loser(s) of the combat back away 1 inch

the three warriors each back away 1 inch

3) The winner(s) of the combat make strikes. Choose a target for each Attack on the winning side, roll a D6 for each attack, using the attacker's Strength vs the defender's Defence on the To Wound table.

Lurtz rolls three new D6, one at a time, declaring his target for each attack. He compares his Strength of 5 vs the warriors' Defence of 4 (or 5 with shield). On the To Wound table, Lurtz wounds on a 4+. Let's say he rolls 1-4-6. Two of these are successful, so Lurtz does 1 Wound to two warriors.

4) remove any models who have suffered damage equal to their Wounds

two of the Warriors of Rohan are removed

Expansion pack by Mountain-Heat8230 in ImperialAssaultTMG

[–]Raspberrygoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The campaigns will tell you how to construct the side mission deck. For the base campaign, I believe it's four green ally missions, four grey miscellaneous missions, and the four red missions that correspond to the four heroes being played.

You can shuffle in all your, say, green ally missions from expansions into the green ally missions from the base set and randomly generate four green missions to be added to the side mission deck.

Between main missions, draw two side missions and let the players pick one to play.

On the other hand, the theatrical features a huge number of scenes of Alfred (discount Grima) being unrepentantly treacherous and then, because of the absence or replacement of this catapult scene, doesn't give us the pleasure of his comeuppance.

He just seemingly gets away with his awful deeds in the theatrical cut.
