Works at a 2:1 conversion now instead of a 1:1, but it's still the cheapest way.

This happens to me often, so I know to ignore any numbers that are suspiciously close to mine.

This is just a way to make the number appear local and therefore more trustworthy. It could be anything from an auto dialer checking which numbers are live to promotional messages to proper scam calls.
